i see i see. so is it still worth it evertime u get sent flying to start trying to bair to momentum cancel anyway or would u recommend waiting until you think the hitlag is over to try a bair?

i suck at DI if you cant tell. lol.
DI with either Tap or Smash DI perpendicular to the trajectory you were hit for best results. After having altered your master trajectory with your DI, go for momentum cancel with Bair, and if FFing helps depending on where you are, do that as well.

Proper practice makes perfect (or at least **** good =P), I'm glad to see someone ask so many good questions, and in the proper place to ask them! *awards KIEF a cookie*

ok i got a question, me and my friends have trouble getting videos recorded mainly because they're fairly long.

is there a time restriction on these videos? like 3 minutes or something?
yes, 3 minutes.

So record them live.

:mewtwo:
Or if you have a copy of twilight princess(wii version of course) you can hack your wii to record longer than 3 minutes.

i have a problem with ledge hopping to Fair with link. I could do it in melee but i cant seem to get link in the air high enough. Is there a special way to do it or something that will make it easier. And so i just dont plummet to my doom?

I dunno, tried to let go of the ledge by pressing down instead of away, when I ledgehop fairs I need to do so. Also think of it like you press jump and attack at the same time. the controller input for me is like this. control stick down > control stick forward+ A + Y.

It feels so wrong to help a pit main.

Anyone have an objecion of me starting up a new online thread for these boards? I checked out the current one and it looks a bit too technical for my tastes. If I cant thats fine. I'll just keep browsing around these boards to get to know people and maybe eventually challange them to some fights.

Button input has to be almost all at the same time...I push down to double ledgehop fair but you can also do it by pushing away from the ledge....might be safer...I can do both but doing it away took me a little longer to learn. Just make sure when you hit down or away from the ledge that that input is the only one that is really spaced out a bit more from the rest...still gotta do it fast though.

I edited the OP to include a less "technical" section. Take a look under the "FRIENDLIES" heading. So go ahead and post any friendlies you want in the Wifi thread.

This should suffice.

QUESTION: Does using the up-b in the air depreciate your up-b on the ground?

QUESTION: Is their a way to increase the likelihood of getting the lower controller slot in wifi (so as to obtain SA frames when grabbed)?

why would you be using the up b offensively in the air?
It's situational, but there are a few instances that your up b attack is useful. Sometimes opponents get used to you simply using your up b to grab the edge so they wait close to the ledge or try to gimp, which gives you an opportunity to catch them off guard with the up b. If it doesn't work you can always just fall back an regrab the edge.

Other situations are when a returning boomerang pulls them out of position and close enough to the edge to hit. In Delfino Plaza you can short hop a fair of the edge but do it low enough so that you fall through the stage, then when they try to punish you just up b to hit them.

I'm sure there's more, but obviously this isn't something that should be abused.

@Arkive - ask Linkspec why to use aerial spin attacks lol

@Ich - aerial spin attack actually works as a great killer on Green Hill Zone (right side only) because the ground is parallel to the pathway of the spin + horizonral knockback of the final hit makes it even better

The best answer is when ledgehopping lol

Umm, it's not a bad approach I guess. I like FF -> fair just to get the first hit in and combo out of that, but I'm a close range player. If I remember correctly, you like to play defensively and stay away, attacking with projectiles. Try retreating fairs, they may work for you when you're in a tight spot.

Linkspecialist capitalizes on Fairs, so this might be a good question to ask him. From what I've seen he usually either auto cancels them or full hops and fast falls to only connect with the 2nd hit.

Speaking of FF, can someone provide a detailed explanation about Link's FF game? I realized just last night that the reason those top Links look so fast is because they know when to FF. I'm not talking about "don't FF offstage" or "don't FF dair" - yeah, those are obvious. I mean like, look at how Legan, with a bomb in hand, FF into a zair grapple for recovery. Look at how Linkspec FF his fairs to get the second hit. Look at how Izaw FF his bair to only get the first kick and combo from that. That sorta stuff. I need to improve my FF game onstage.

Well sassy, I can do the first kick FF thing. And wow, it can combo. Right after you do the command, hit downward on the analog stick. It's easy timing after learning.

You can fastfall offstage. Just make sure you have your second jump and know how low you can FF to before not being able to get back. I do it with Nair and Bair...mostly Bair to gimp people because it has a stronger knockback than Nair that isn't sweetspotted.

Yeah, I didn't think anyone else noticed Izaws first bair hit into usually an Up-Tilt. That's pretty slick.

@blu - I knew that already, I mean like....when are good times to FF and when are not? I really can't tell when playing a match.

@Oddler - yeah, Blubba taught me the hard way about FF bairs offstage.

Okay um...lemme rephrase what I'm asking. When are good times to FF when playing onstage? Besides SH FF nairs. *doesn't feel like typing out those earlier examples I gave*

I do that way too often, lol.
If you FH a fair and then fastfall, you can land the second, more powerful hit for an unexpected kill move (unless you're Link Specialist, in which case it would be totally expected and completely unblockable ). You can also fastfall in the middle of an opponent's juggling combo to throw them off and escape from the combo. SH FF bairs also set up quick combos on unexpecting foes, as only the first strike connects. It sets up good finishers like a dsmash or ftilt (because I'm a big fan of ftilts, which have won me many a match).

@WaffleZ: It's because people who aren't big Zelda fanboys know Link by the series name: Zelda.
And you should post your info in the Link Finder, because you aren't on there. :c

fair - when you want to only hit with the first hit, aka low %'s
nair - every single time unless you're trying to craq walk out of it
bair - imo not a lot, if you're bairing you want to be able to jump out of it in case you need to bair or nair again, of course there might be some exceptions
dair - never
uair - never....unless you're taunting (flash step son)
zair - never
empty jump - when you need to return to the ground to punish

How do you score 2 hits of your Fair from a ledge hop?

Gotta hit the buttons close to the same time so you do it fast enough for the second hit to come out before it auto-cancels. Careful not to self destruct with it...
