Me when everyone is scrambling around for the Switch 2 while I'm enjoying my playthrough of NSO's wide-screen, 30 fps, crispy looking version of Banjo-Tooie:

It was to compensate between the players' skill gap, not the characters'.

That said if competitive matches had items on there'd still be a skill gap based on who has the best knowledge of what each item does.
Excellent point bro!
Infact, when "pro"players than never used items are in a match with items they usually get lost. And then blame items.

Just saying, every single bit of smash speculation I've been a part of, the grass starter was always considered a shoe-in and were the obvious choice (except for a bit towards the end of ult speculation where everyone was convinced Cinderace was a shoe-in)

we still have not gotten a grass starter outside of Venusaur
That's why I think Meowscarada would be purrfect!

Will it be Zelda like the Switch 1? Or will it be something new and unexpected? And will they confirm if the new system can play the old games on it?
Zelda is a no-go. Echoes of Wisdom was just released.

I'm predicting the most likely outcome to be a new 3D Mario or a new Mario Kart. Possibly both.

If the Switch 2 isn't backwards compatible with the OG Switch's games, that'd be the most anti-consumer thing imaginable. So it's not completely off the table for Nintendo, but I can't imagine them screwing it up that badly.

Not necesarily i could see them release TP or Windwaker Considering theres no way of playing them on switch!
Or (if nintendo is nice) they could give indie devlopers the rights to devlop zelda titles ala cadence of hyrule!

My only true prediction about Switch 2 is that it'll be revealed when the speculation has become so drawn out and obnoxious that any excitement I have regarding it been whittled down to nothingness.

So yeah, 2025 reveal for release sometime in Fall of that year is what i feel is the boring but sadly most likely answer.

Do you think it’s too early to see anything for Xenoblade 4 (assuming they’re making it)? I also remember rumors from years ago that Monolith Soft was working on a more traditional medieval fantasy RPG but I’m not sure whether those were actually true or not.

I wouldn’t expect to see XC4 until 2028.

The new IP and a Xenoblade remaster (likely X, but there could also be a curveball with 2 getting the nod) will likely kick off a new system.

Just saw Queen Dizzy's starter guide...May Sakurai never take notes from this character.
In fairness, Wings of Light will probably end up being an impractical "style on 'em" move since it requires giving up your turn, not getting hit for a full minute, and having full tension to be truly scary. However, I do not trust the Smash team to implement a mechanic like this without it being absolute garbage with 0 use cases (yet somehow still destroys casuals and so can't be buffed) or unacceptably ridiculously powerful.

nah it’s only been a couple years since 3. most of them see to take around 5 years. as for new IPs, well that’s anyone’s guess

Honestly, i'd like Smash 6 to have a more realistic art style like Brawl or Pokken Tournament, it could be pretty cool with today's tech.
An emphasis on realistic details could be cool, but I wouldn’t want to go back to Brawl’s washed out colors and muddy textures.

You can have realism and still be vibrant and fun. The world is a colorful place!

Yeah, I definitely prefer more colorful graphics as a rule. I wasn’t a huge fan of the washed out colors almost every game was going for at that time. My preferred style is something along the lines of Guilty Gear or Dragonball Fighter Z but I get that that’s a lot of work and maybe more effort than it’s worth for such a huge roster.

I don't know between forcing your zoner to get up close, sacrificing all meter meaning you can't use supers or Roman Cancels, and in general a long start up it looks like something meant to scare opponents with than actually use. It's honestly no different than say Warlock Punch or Giga Flare. But we will see when she's actually in people's hands.

I'm more upset that they took away the fire pillar and fire fish because of course Strive would take away options.

Too soon. I think after a trilogy of games all on one console, the team need a break. I think the new IP is the priority right now. Then again I thought the same thing after Definitive Edition.

Yeah, that makes sense. Do you think there’s any truth to that rumor of the new IP? I’d be pretty excited for it. I love Xenoblade’s exploration and music but the narrative can get a little hard for me to follow at times, particularly Xenoblade 3’d DLC. I’d love a game with similar exploration and awesome music but with a more straightforward story.

I’m an expert at following complex narratives, I understand KH for example, I can help

Thanks. Kingdom Hearts is another one I never fully followed. I understood the first game well enough that I never really felt lost in the narrative but it became increasingly more confusing in each subsequent game. Same thing for the Xenoblade games. It never got to the point that it was ruining my enjoyment of the games but I decided to focus on the individual character relationships rather than overarching narrative. I don’t think many here have likely played Wild Arms 5 on the PS2 but that’s one I remember being very confused for the whole game and the ending made no sense at all to me.

Rememer that Smash Bros is catered to all gamers of all skill level with simple controls while complex to mastery. Sakurai did simplify Kazuya and Terry's combo to an easier input. Though, he is a man that can go beyond expectations, so it could happen. It just all depends on the negotiations of the series creator, companies and Sakurai during Smash 6's quiet production.

Even more than Smash, I’d really love to see the Pokemon games get a Guilty Gear like cel shaded style. I think that’s the perfect aesthetic for anime adjacent games like Pokemon though I know that’s subjective. Gen 6 had somewhat of a cel shaded look but the colors were washed out in that game and I feel the effect could be done a lot better with modern hardware.

that’s fair, I always felt both series had pretty solid characters overall

Super Smash Bros. can't and won't look entirely like Guilty Gear since it requires more complex models and hand animating their characters. I'm also not sold on it going full anime either as it causes the same problems as going full photo-realism did in Brawl.

That being said, there are a variety of striking artstyles they could use. This could include cell shading (which could look like anything from Breath of the Wild to Wind Waker), or it could be something more along the lines of what Dead Cells does to fake pixel art.

EDIT: The current trend seems to be cartoon characters + photorealistic environment, which could also work, but I dunno if I'd go that direction either, especially with some of the weirder environments.

That’s pretty smart ngl.

That said, where the **** was Dr. Mario Virus World Complete at when it died? :sakbanjo:
As sad as it sounds I genuinely think it might come down to being an audience thing. Even in comparison to Pocket Camp, Dr. Mario World had an abysmally small player base.
