So, how do you feel about Amiibo in the future?

We got a lot of Amiibo throughout the Wii U and Switch's life. Do you think that will continue?
Well, we're still getting them, as I think our most recent set was the Splatoon 3 Side Order amiibos and not too far off are the Xenoblade 3 Amiibo and the Tears of the Kingdom Amiibo. So I think we'll still get more Amiibo for a while.

And I won't lie. I would be legitimately curious and interested on the possibility of a game that utilised Amiibo similar to Skylanders or Lego Dimensions, especially if it worked with all existing Amiibo(as if Smash wasn't already a giant legal nightmare). No one is prepared for the ultimate crossover of Mario with the power of Cereal teaming up with an E.M.M.I. from Metroid Dread, a Malzeno from Monster Hunter Rise and Solaire of Astora from Dark Souls.

Amiibo will keep chugging along well into the Switch 2 years. I don’t see them stopping anytime soon.

It’s not like back when it was the hottest thing on the block, but Amiibo has carved out a nice little niche for itself.

I do agree. Thirties feel more stable than my twenties. Then again my twenties where kinda problematic. However I noticed most people have their worst experiences in their twenties? Idk, seems like an era of extreme ups and downs, hence I say thirties is more stable, at least to me.
Same here. Nothing particularly out of the ordinary, but my 20s were also pretty turbulent and, I don't regret anything but I've really been enjoying the stability and the feel of (more or less, of course) knowing my place in the world that growing older brings to you.

What would you say early twenties are like, to someone who's gonna be 20 in a few months? (me)
I suppose it varies wildly from person to person, but it's probably the most fun part of life! You never have as many people around you afterwards. At least in my case though, I was also still immature and a little too emotional... "Extreme ups and downs" is probably the best way of putting it. Again, in my case at least.

amiibo seem pretty likely to keep going. They work rather well as merchandising as concerned, and there's tons to collect, always keeping good attention. Only downside is some characters or franchises getting very few(no Tingle one yet? Pokemon at least has tons of other kinds of merchandise instead, but still).

It also helps that Smash alone does really well with that point. Though I do wish the new/changed designs had them too(like Ganondorf and Zelda). I wish Master Hand was more playable so he could've gotten one. Or any boss, really.

M!Corrin & F!Corrin: "Can we return to the next Smash Bros?"
Smash fans: "Don't bring them back to the next Smash Bros, plz!"
Nintendo and Sakurai: "Okay, we won't bring them back.
monkey paw curls
Nintendo and Sakura: "Jonesy from Fortnite is coming to the next Smash Bros and he comes with these characters that are certainly not Corrin"

I mean, not only does the female have a Witch outfit like Corrin, but the male's literal name is Orin.

It does occur to me that they could totally have a bunch of Fortnite characters occupying the same slot ala Hero because Fortnite characters are just skins over a base in their home game.

That's why I have been an advocate for a more generic Fortnite character than just jonesy. There are too many iconic skins to not at least acknowledge.

I'll never understand people reqesting characters from games they haven't even played yet. They might not even like the character!

That happened with EMMI. It happened with Nahobino. When all they were was trailers.
I agree that it's weird to do if the game hasn't released yet. But if the game's been out for a while, it's easy enough to learn about a character without actually owning the game.

Precisely. Then who would be the eight skins to represent Fortnite?

A 40 minutes long livestream sounds like... a Smash character presentation???

Just kidding. Though it is a weird format.

Honestly if Fortnite ever gets in Jonesy would still be the "Face" of the slot because Jonesy, for all his genericness, is considered the go-to representation for Fortnite. He was story relevant before fortnite's story plans kinda got... demolished by them expanding into metaverse roblox-esque crap and even in this season's trailer he was used in a parody of Cyclops and Ryu's MvC handshake, which again makes it pretty clear that he'd take precedent.

Part of believes it'd be a Steve situation where half the slots are some of his most iconic skin variations (Agent Jones at least) and then we get a few other ones like Rameriez, Cuddle Team Leader, Peely, etc. I'd personally hope it's "just" the original 8 defaults as they were very iconic to me when I was first playing, but I do get that stuff like Fishstick are just more relevant in that sense.

I'd take Slone over Geno if we had to add a fortnite antagonist skin, btw. Neither character was utilized very well but Slone is just cooler and I'll die on that hill.

Only thing that makes me think it ain’t a smash announcement is that it’s on the making games category. But either way, I have no idea what else he could be talking about for 40 minutes on this topic that ain’t a smash announcement lol. Hopefully we get something cool nonetheless.

He's going to recreate the entirety of Kirby s Dreamland from scratch and he wants us to watch it on livestream it just to flex the fact he can do it in 40 minutes

My picks would be

1. Jonesy The First
2. Ramirez Redux
3. Fishstick
4. Cuddle Team Leader
5. Meowscles
6. Heroic Hope
7. Midas
8. Doctor Slone

Peely would be a shoe-in if he wasn't banana shaped, and Geno, The Foundation and a few other Lore Characters I could have added I excluded because of the weird state of the lore right now, They have basically completely abandoned the Geno vs The Seven storyline (also technically there is no skin named "Geno" the character does appear as the character "The Ageless Champion"). Doctor Doom and Mephisto are the main villains as of writing this. I only included Slone because she was still relevant by the time Chapter 5 hit she is also the most well rounded villain in terms of writing and overall presence.

I've seen a lot of Smash movesets get criticized lately, for one reason or another. So, what are your favorite movesets in Smash? Because they're fun to play, they represent the character well, they're balanced, etc.
Do the movesets have to be specific to Ultimate, or can I list any version of a character from any game?

King K. Rool has a very well put-together kit that achieves something that's really difficult; respecting the source material while having a cohesive, fun-to-play moveset. Everything that he should have is there (crown toss, blunderbuss, propellerpack), and from that point Smash adds a lot of great moves like F-tilt, D-tilt, Nair, Bair, that are great fun and fit the character. He also has fantastic utility in the Belly Armor that fits the character and contextualizes a boss's crippling weak spot into the context of a fighting game very nicely.

Incineroar is an excellently-designed grappler that really uses the fear factor to his advantage. He's slow, but his moves have great frame data and Revenge can get you big damage if you're able to get in. Revenge is also a great solution to the problem of people easily camping/walling out grapplers in platform fighters. It's all very nicely tied together by Incineroar's show-off heel persona that compliments this sort of playstyle perfectly.

Other than them, I think Fox, Marth, Captain Falcon, and Pikachu have excellent overall platform figter movesets that are very important to the genre as a whole. You're always seeing Spacie or Marth archetypes in other platform fighters which I think is a testament to how well-designed/timeless they are.

Probably Sora, since his beginner-friendly nature allows his moveset to flow naturally.

Say what you will about being overtuned, but Pyra & Mythra honestly feel like they’ve got some influence from the classic movesets from Melee and Brawl. They’re very easy to pick up and play, and are the most accessible DLC characters in that regard.

Their normals, maybe, but I feel like Mythra's side and up specials are too flashy to be from one of Melee's movesets. That said the fact that they have the same normal animations but with different properties is definitely more in line with Melee's clones than Brawl semiclones or echoes.

Oh right, that's supposed to be happening this week, isn't it? Sure, Nintendo did ask if they could keep it a secret, but we know there's going to be a couple people who will spoil it for the one-day glory.

The download should be available 21/10/2024 UTC which would be in... around 2 hours and 15 minutes I think? Could always go up later in the day but they gave no time so I feel like it could be midnight. I suspect the app name will just be "Nintendo Switch Online Playtest" and we won't find out what it is until it opens though.

What if the beta test and Sakurai's special final video he states for everyone including his international viewers to "watch in real time" are connected?

That was posted almost 15 minutes ago, it'd be accurate at the time of posting.
I was very close to just saying 2 hours so this wouldn't happen, but yeah was accurate at the time (I think was 13 minutes when I pressed send actually)

I highly doubt Sakurai's video is a nintendo thing, or they'd explicitly state it (although the filesize is allegedly a bit larger than a gamecube game, so melee online has occurred to me).

Melee doesn't use up all 1.4GB of space on the disc, judging by how there's a modpack that adds about 100 songs and triples everyone's costumes and the amount of stages while still being within 1.4GB. A 2.2GB download for Melee HD is perfectly reasonable if the only assets that've been given a makeover are UI graphics.

Yeah I'm thinking the app will be called something like this or just something like "Nintendo Switch Online Playtest Program" even after the playtest starts since supposedly recommending a wired connection means they'll have to hide what it is from people on your Friends List.

That said, super curious when it's gonna become available and what it's gonna be exactly.

EDIT: Also in terms of file size, I think the N64 NSO app is like 1.7 GB or something? So I can see some basis behind the idea of Gamecube games, but I still don't wanna get my hopes up too much for that lmao

That was my reasoning, I figured a gamecube game with modernised graphics (would just expect a higher resolution and widescreen tbh) and online would fit 2.2GB perfectly. Some people have suggested a gc streaming app, and while I can see why, 2.2GB is huge for that since it'd just need the UI, and the n4 app is less than 2gb for the UI and all the roms, so streaming would be way lower. I guess we'll find out sooner rather than later though.

I'd love to be wrong so we can find out what it is sooner but yeah, this seems like the most likely scenario for names.

And 2.2 GB could get like... 1.5 gamecube games, so unless they've discovered some incredible new compression technique it won't be that (my guess for how gc NSO will work is that it'll let you download games individually from the app, since downloading them all could get too large).

True, I always forget how big the size difference between N64 and GC games are, since Paper Mario is like 167.5 MB, and TTYD is like over a GB at least on the original Gamecube release lol

And yeah I don't think it's a cloud streaming thing, because Kingdom Hearts 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX on the Switch is a cloud version, and that's only 77MB.
