Do you guys think Terry's list of 50 Songs will ever be topped by any of the Characters in FP2, or even come close?

On the other side, would there be any Character in FP2 that has Less than Steve's 7 Songs?
Doubt it. The only reason we got that many to begin with is because SNK were hella generous with the list Sakurai and his team gave.

Only way I can see someone going below Minecraft's selection is if, and I hate to say it, we end up getting another Square character.

Are there any Characters you guys don't want, and Why?
It already happened and I already explained why.

It's funny, really, the worst character actually happening has led me to a sort of zen state where I'm not really worried about who's next. Anything would be an improvement at this point, even Pokemon. I still don't want another Pokemon though, so that's my new answer, but it's nothing worth fretting over.

IICR, the English translation of Terry's Presentation mentioned Sakurai going a bit overboard with the music selection for Terry because of how much he loved SNK's OSTs which was why he asked for 50 songs, and to his surprise, SNK allowed him to use all 50.

We won't be seeing anything like that happening again thoe considering all those tracks aren't exclusive to just Fatal Fury.

My least favorite choice is your favorite.

I am specifically designed to make your speculation life miserable.

Sorry I dont make the rules.

...

Honestly I have no clue... I don't really hate characters but Geno or Cinderace would give me a big fat... "Eh."

I guess I'd be more hyped for the stages and music that would come with them.

I still can't comprehend how Resident Evil got submitted to the eternal hell of spirits yet people still think Capcom or more specifically Phoenix Wright is happening

Resident Evil is factually the funnest franchise of all the Capcom franchises at their disposal. I was shocked that even Megaman and Street Fighter got in before it. The only way to save FP2 is to make all the remaining fighters Resident Evil characters.

I'm by no stretch shocked that Megaman or Street Fighter got in way before RE. Classic titles that have had long and successful stints on Nintendo consoles and are acclaimed franchises. Plus they are not horror games with gore. So of course the two more family friendly and recognizable characters would get in first. Really isn't THAT difficult to believe.

Honestly, I think the deal with RE could simply just be that Nintendo chose Monster Hunter as the "Capcom character" for this pass, if we are indeed getting a MH rep.

It does make sense, Monster Hunter is getting an entirely new mainline game and a spinoff both exclusive to Switch. Meanwhile all RE has to offer are some late ports, and perhaps Nintendo felt like that all they needed to promote that was the spirit event. In that sense, I could see why Nintendo would prioritise Monster Hunter this time around.

Anyways, if a franchise as iconic and influential as Resident Evil gets shafted that hard, I have a very hard time believing Devil May Cry or Ace Attorney even has a chance to begin with.

The amount of music seems to be very dependent on who owns the tracks:
  • I have no idea who owns Persona 5 & Banjo-Kazooie's music. I assume it's just Atlus or Sega, and Microsoft, but I don't think that's concrete enough.
  • Dragon Quest's music is owned by its composer, who is so stingy, SquareEnix has trouble getting it in their own titles. It got 8 tracks.
  • Fatal Fury's music is stated to all be from SNK, who seemed to allow pretty much everything. It got 50 tracks because Sakurai went overboard and SNK was fine with it.
  • Fire Emblem: Three Houses and ARMS are both owned by Nintendo themselves, so they can add as much as they want. They got 11 and 18 tracks respectively, the former game probably getting a smaller selection since Fire Emblem had a lot of music already, and the latter game pretty much got its entire soundtrack.
  • This is a bit of an assumption, but I think Microsoft owns some of Minecraft's music (and all of spin-off tracks), and C418 owns the rest, or at least, the most important songs. My guess is that Nintendo either couldn't or didn't want to license from both rights owners, so we got just the side games/content's music that Microsoft owns.
    • Before you say that it was because the C418 tracks are slow as Sakurai said, listen to the original Halland and Dalarna, and tell me that wasn't at least a half truth.

I wont say that RE can't have a Smash safe move set. If anything MVC:3 and such have shown you can though we still have to account for 'gun theory' on how much gun is too much gun (Samus arm laser? A-OK. Fox/Falco/Wolf plasma pistols? A-OK. Joker with a real ass firearm? A-OK. Chris/Jill/Leon/Clair with full on shot gun/flame thrower or machine guns? Slams the big red 'NO' button

I feel Mega Man and Ryu made more sense for Smash. One was an NES staple icon and the other one was that for fighting games so it made sense. If Resident Evil was somehow Capcom's fighting game series or an NES staple I could've imagined them getting in first no matter the content. It says enough that they're even spirits. Truth be told, I was always gunning for them to be the last fighter until we got the spirits because I felt they would be a great realistic reload gunner and horror rep with their popularity and acclaim. Maybe down the line if we get more DLC?

Not sure if this means we should expect Sakurai being for or against a gunner based moveset because he didn't want to or someone else is planned. Depending on your personal opinion it could go either way.

It really isn't a ratings issue considering all the guns already in Smash held by spirits. Snake's C4 is literally called the real life term for example. You can check how Shadow the Hedgehog is rated E 10+ despite the cop shooting, a child shooting implication, the going straight to hell comment, and Shadow packing multiple realistic weapons.

Meanwhile Shrek Extra Large, Melee and Brawl get a T rating

You can see the copyright info in the music part of the sound test. According to that, the Persona 5 music is owned by Atlus, Banjo-Kazooie music is owned by Microsoft, and minigame & spin-off Minecraft music by Mojang. According to the descriptions of official Youtube uploads of Minecraft music, it is owned by C418.

Unless Joker's gun was only allowed because of his anime aesthetic (in which case I would have some questions), I think pistols should be fine for now. Flamethrowers should be fine because they deal with fire rather than bullets, and I don't think it's all that common for one to be used in combat (I heard they're not even used in war, as using one is a war crime). Shot guns might be OK as well since they're normally used for hunting, but I'm not as confident on that. Machine guns are likely where they'll draw the line here.

To be perfectly frank, as someone who's never played P5, I've heard that canonically it'd just an airsoft gun...
This is correct, but I think as far as the ratings board is concerned, it it looks like a gun, and acts like a gun, it is in fact, a gun.

Unless they're allowing it because it doesn't technically depict the use of bullets and you just get hit with muzzle flashes, in which case...I'd still have questions about that.

If there’s any company I feel may be negatively impacted by a spirit event, it’s Arc System Works as the Kunio-kun spirit event was their first content introduced into the game
That's how i think as well. It's the same reason why i don't see us getting an Ubisoft-owned character.
If these were the final four. How would you guys feel?

Crash Bandicoot
Monster Hunter
Rex
Ryu Hayabusa
Predictable? No super mega unexpected characters? The most talked about roster choices?

One of the best Fighter Pass 2 mock ups i've seen. The only sad thing is the lack of More Nintendo characters aside from Rex, but eh, what can you do?

Devil May Cry, the series that paved the way for Bayonetta. Ace Attorney, the series that made visual novel games really begin to stand out in the industry. Not to mention how popular the characters themselves are.

I thought the same thing when I was THE Resident Evil guy. However, if Terry Bogard can get in before Heihachi becomes playable, if a Persona character can get into Smash despite it not even being close to the “biggest” game or series, yet it has a playable character.

Sales matter, but is it the biggest indicator or most important? I don’t think so.

I hope it isn't, because that would piss me off.
Prepare to be pissed off then
There was a problem fetching the tweet
That beta title screen has everything that could pass as a bootleg, but no one's found a previously existing image on the internet showing this combination of Pokemon+stock photo.

Also, being an unexpected character does not make you inherently a great pick.

I can see why unexpected picks can be good. I really do.

But I don’t really know that the lack of one inherently decreases the quality of a character of the so highly revered “popular characters”.

Like, I don’t know. For years it’s been, “Waluigi, BWD, and Isaac will be in because they’re popular!” But the moment we get a possible pass with 4 popular characters it’s not good enough because it’s “got too many popular characters”.

I don’t know what to think of that. Is it that there’s too many popular characters, or just not the right popular characters?

You know who I like to see as an unexpected 1st party DLC fighter? Someone from the Pilotwings series, either Lark with Kiwi as an echo/alt or one of the Flight Instructors such as Tony or Shirley. (I know you control a Flight Club student and you see what he looks like in the ending but I tended to like the Instructors in the SNES game since they had more personality.)

Gordon Freeman could potentially come close to 50 songs if they include TF2 and Portal music into the mix.
