Hey everyone. I just got back from my routine physical, and I can say that being at the doctor's office is absolute torture for me.
I receive the "white-coat" effect EVERY TIME I'm at the doctor's office. I get nervous and shaky, my heart races, and my blood pressure sky-rockets!
The first time they checked it, I was 180/60.
The lady was like "LOL WUT?! SO HIGH".
I was like >.< NOT HELPING!
She checked other....things. Then she checked the blood pressure again and it was a full 20 points lower. I was just a bit calmer then...
Then she starts talking about doing cholesterol tests, lipid tests, draining blood, fasting for a day, sugar tests.
I can't take it. I break down into tears.
See, I'm incredibly active, but I'm still overweight. You wouldn't look at me and think "eww, unhealthy person", because I'm not. I get GREAT exercise and most of my weight is muscular.
I can't stand it. I know that they care about me, but it's just so frustrating. The doctor was incredibly nice, and told me not to worry. Yeah, try telling that to my body....
She checked my BP AGAIN and AGAIN it was 20 points lower.
I swear, the doctor's office scares the absolute **** out of me.
What are your doctor office visits like? If anyone else gets nervous, look into "White-coat" syndrome. It affects alot of teens around the ages of 13-20.
