(on shield) nair / dair > shine > wavedash back.

i don't see it very often but since i suck at shield pressure i've been experimenting with things other than just dash dancing out of shield grab range or a move oos range. thoughts?

i actually meant to post this in the falco boards but i guess this works too.
my thoughts are:

why da *** would u waste your pressure and just wavedash back. i mean yea if you're trying to bait out a samus up+b, peach nair, falcon stomp ETC. but for regular pressure i'd say that's a free "please jump on the side platform now" card.

I just think its strange that the FC ruleset is trying so hard to go against the standard we've set for melee and been progressing towards, just for the sake of nostalgia.

I mean, there are arguments to be made i favor of mute city testing certain kinds of skills (like you mention, it opens up other recovery options), but they certainly arent the kind of skills we've cared about the past 5 years.

I mean, its not a big deal, the tourny will be great regardless.

What's wrong with 3 bans? you think there should be more or less?

the only part you have to be frame perfect on is Y to B, which would be the same speed whether or not you're hitting something. Right?

KishPrime is not entering Singles at FC, so boring accusations that the stagelist is meant to favor the host like Plank did at Pound 3 don't really work.

One could argue that Jigglypuff mains have really skewed ideas of balance and how the game works in a general sense because their character's fundamentals and how-to-play tactics are incredibly different relative to the more Melee-esque ones.

Actually, I do make that argument. LOL.

But I don't think character main matters so much about FC ruleset. I just figured the Midwest has a more liberal policy on stages and thought everyone knew this. FC has had a bunch of weird stage lists and rules (Battlefield wasn't on random for FC Diamond). And to my understanding they've always been great tournaments too and a wonderful experience for the participants.

Also, three bans is a lot.

eh... you can bait stuff with it. here's an example

idk. just like everything else, it's good sometimes

I mean if you're gonna dismiss it cuz they can jump away then you can similarly dismiss fadeback nair in shield pressure.

(not saying slox's thing is as good as fadeback nair, or anything like that, I'm just saying it's not bad sometimes)

Hey, I want to know if there's any application for Usmash out of shine. On shield it's pretty ***. It does good damage if they jump out, but your whole shield pressure ends with it. Anything else you can do with it?

It's really good to punish missed techs with. The shine is fast enough that you can easily react to a missed tech while moving to cover other options, and then you get a upsmash.

Thanks. I dropped a total of 2 games on Saturday (1 in pools and 1 in bracket).

I heard that your controller broke recently though. Maybe that was the cause?

Oh nice. Just messing up a lot vs him?

MTH3 right?

Edit: oh yeah, I was so tired/hungry/stressed from running the tourney. I made 1 mistake (due to a friend showing up late) and it made 1 pool run 2 hours late. So I was stressed + already had a headache and was overall mad at myself most of the day because I didn't double check the pool. Basically, there were 3 pools of 8 and 1 pool of 9 people, but the two that showed up late were added and one of them was added to the pool of 9 (so 10 people in a pool, while 2 pools still had 8). I kinda just auto-piloted and didn't take notice until later.

Fortunately, the amateur bracket ran absolutely perfectly + doubles and singles bracket ran fairly well time-wise, so we managed to finish the whole tourney by 10:30PM (I was aiming to finish by 9:00PM, but that mistake + the turnout was a lot bigger than expected [which is great anyway]).

Edit 2: Otto, KK dropped me for teams so maybe you can team with him now. I know that you wanted to before.

Does it work? Can you hit someone with the shine and still connect the U-smash?
DEFINITELY. It's not really unreliable at all. If you land the shine, you're almost guaranteed to get the u-smash. It's really good for comboing/ending combos because it's easier to land the shine than the u-smash (shine is a lot faster so the startup isn't an issue).

Examples:

Shine->u-smash off the ground:

Shine -> u-smash against an airborne enemy:

I suck and got 3rd at the same tournament otto was at. Otto and Bladewise ***** me lol. Was kind of out of it for my set with Bladewise and pretty much gave him the win. D:

I feel like I need to re-evaluate my neutral game. I wasn't warmed up in my set with bladewise at all and my techskill was incredibly off, I couldn't hit waveshines at all (I'd get stuck in my shield or jump instead of wavedash iirc) so I was just playing completely differently from how I normally do (i.e. I was playing kinda gay lol) and I was still making the matches close. I think I need to start doing less stupid aggro stuff and playing more like m2k more often. At least against characters like Peach lol.

On the bright side, Hitsugaya is a homie and gave me some poutine, so I got to eat poutine for the first time in I think over 3 years.

Good **** UNKNOWNNN can't wait to see da vidz.
