I got put up against a real mediocre doc yesterday whom I should have beat and I ended up losing. I found myself not really knowing how to approach, I couldn't get any uairs off and I usually got slapped trying to nair in.

Any advice/**** that ***** doc?

just sounds like u tried approaching at the wrong times.. when u uthrow him i usually wait for their reaction in the air and then follow up because they get out of u throw hitstun rather quickly....drill usmash is key in this matchup....and any vids would help....and i no doc is slow and stuff but he has good defense so rushin in all the time wouldnt be smart but that every match up

ADVICE??? all those rolls oos were suppose to be wavedashes out of shield but i was messing up idk y:glare:
from what i saw you need to work on your punishing game. you got some pretty good reads during the match but you never really capitalized very well on them. against marth you need to make sure your punishes are well thought-out and on point to make up for those stupid punishes marth has on you. i don't mean to go hard whenever you get a grab or a hit but just make sure you keep the pressure on and don't get scared and run away.

also there were times when you would play safe and just get scared. the biggest problem with playing against marths is that they've got a million different ways to 0-death you and there is little to nothing you can do about it. it's important for any spacy main to have a good marth game so you can get out of the habit of doing spotdodges without thinking about them and doing excessive double jumping because i saw those a lot during your match too.

so yeah just work on your marth game. i saw some pretty good stuff in there though but just make sure you work on it aight? :)

BUT TODAY
Couldn't do a thing and HAD to play marth.. I've never had a day where fox felt so foreign.. I was NOT MOVING. Ended up 9th outta like 58 people.

Think it's just to much? Or just an off day? This happen to anyone else?
It was stupid because I lost to my brother because I wasn't even gonna try and play fox.
you used all your fox juices.

anyway, could somebody give me advice on Doc, Sheik, and Marth?
For sheik and Doc I'm mostly just trying to stay on them, not get grabbed, and keep them above me the majority of the time. This was advice given to me before. I'm still having a lot of trouble with these matchups.
Then there is marth... I'm so bad that it makes me a little sad. I know that I should try to bait his crap and stay bellow him, but I have a lot of trouble keeping myself where I want to be. I often get pushed back to the edge of the stage, and then just get *****.

Why in the world do you want to be above Doc? I'd much rather get under him. His utilt/upsmash/uair are pretty good at starting things on fastfallers.

get above doc so you can get to the side of him so you can land a bair. if ur lucky and hes BAD he'll try to jump up to you to catch you on the platform, you can bair him in the face if his spacing sucks. never come down directly on doc unless you're 100% sure he's gonna shield or he doesn't have the timing/spacing to do utilt.

the matchup is just like fighting good falcos, if you try to come in with awful full hop nairs or awful dairs you're gonna get utilted in the **** and then killed.

Vs. Marth I go in with the general strategy of being out of fsmash tipper range or right on top of him. You gain nothing by being in between. If you're getting trapped at the ledge, you have to play shield mindgames with him and figure out if he's going for grabs or attacks. If he's attacking, shield and punish. If he's grabbing, attack him first or GTFO. The top platform of non-YS stages is actually pretty safe, so don't be afraid to just jump right up there and use it. Also learn to ledge dash and it will make your life easy. Whenever I get trapped at the ledge, even if I'm shielding, I just WD onto the ledge and ledgedash back on and punish. Even if they respect the ledgedash, that just means you have free space when you get on. If you have more specific scenarios I can tell you how I deal with it.

Leffen vs Over was such a depressing set. Leffen played sooooo bad. :<

edit: btw Unknown522 I have two questions for you. First: when you do waveshine utilt (on Peach, Falcon etc.) do you recommend turning around to do the utilt? Does it make any difference at all? And second, after what percent do you start waveshine utilting Falcon (as opposed to usmash or grab)?

^

Both methods work well, but I think that turning around later is better because you can walk first if you want. I'm working on turning around in the shine, because when I do the turnaround later then I do a UAF-tilt by accident, ever since my controller broke.

As long as falcon is above 18% (less for peach) before the u-tilt hits. so then they can't CC. When they're at higher percent though, I like to get the weak hit of the u-tilt (you have to be facing forward, but I tend to screw up sometimes).

something like this: www.youtube.com/watch?v=1NKL4k_1EcA#t=3m21s

Ohhh that's smart.

I noticed in that video though, you don't turn around for most of the utilts. Can you just face forward and do the utilt? Is there ANY benefit to doing waveshine -> turnaround utilt, instead of just doing waveshine -> (facing forward) utilt?

the ones in the vid are the weak hit. You have to hit the bottom back of your hitbox, while facing forward (I call it inverse up-tilt). It has the same properties as when you hit an airborne opponent with it (which is the only other way to get a weak hit). The benefit of it is that they can't DI that far away from you, whereas at higher percents, if they DI in on a strong u-tilt, then you may not be able to follow it up.

It's pretty hard to hit since people can DI shines and stuff, but I'd go for it as much as possible if there is a chance to

Waveshine utilt doesn't feel that useful to me, but I am terrible at using utilt. :(

In what scenarios is waveshine utilt good?

its hella good vs chars like peach/sheik/ganon/etc. if you do it at low/mid %s you can get either a free hit or set up for a few hits if they DI poorly. i think its best around like 30-60%. talking about this reminded e of a col waveshine -> up tilt combo i did in this vid at 10:10

^ yes

I think I am going to work on adding in more utilt in the early phases of my combos. Sounds really useful for maximizing that damage

STRONG BAD YOU NOOB

I may be inclined to start giving a **** about this game now. . . but still a few more things to set into motion in my business life first before I can feel good about traveling to tournaments.

Why so hostile, KK?

In most match-ups, usmash is one of the best combo moves. Next time I won't ask questions on the discussion boards.
