Yeah it does happen and it really gets hard to do anything. And if I"m off the edge I can kiss my *** good bye for that stock. Against marth. But same with Shiek. But shiek is scarier for some reason.

But I keep keepin on. Can't let that get me down.

Does anybody else like to

Up-throw -> F-throw -> SH F-air (missed tech)
on Fox/Falco (low percentages)

or can I claim credit for inventing that?
thats just a missed tech punishment and why would you fthrow unless its facing the edge when you can up downthrow into stuff without needing mistakes from your opponent

havent been on the doc boards for a while!!! Whats been happening? Dogy still run the place?

if you want to.

I dont see why you'd want to give them a chance to tech when you could instead of f.throw and get guaranteed stuff and/or stronger setups.

Woah wait what?
I run s***?
I never got the memo.
I never ran this place, I just talk the most.

I didn't say it was particularly useful, I said I liked to do it because

1) (most important ) I'm really bad at chaingrabbing
2) As stated, it gets them off the edge on smaller stages (too bad I'm bad at edgeguarding too)
3) It looks flashy especially if you can chain another F-air/running U-smash on top of the first F-air

Of course good players will tech the F-throw but most people don't react that fast, particularly the first time they see it. Same principle behind Marth doing something like Up-throw -> B-throw -> F-smash.

I see what Lixivium is saying. But I like the gauranteed chaingrabbing/followups better. Tech chasing takes too much prediction on how your opponent reacts. And even when you know how the opponent is gonna react, it's not exactly easy to land the right execution. Doc's spacing has to be rather precise since his range is kinda small.

I could see use in it, dont get me wrong, but the problem seriously becomes you're giving them a free chance to get away.

When I first read this, I figured you were talking about a situation where throwing them up would throw them onto a platform (meaning you wouldn't want to try a platform tech chase for various reasons).

So yeah, it has SOME use, but again, in that situation, you could just as easily d.throw -> jab / d.throw -> tech chase / d.throw -> (loads of other shenanigans)

1) If you're talking about doing this instead of chaingrabbing, you're better off working on your chaingrabbing. Period.

2) It'd be ok if you were talking about TCing with a d.smash, but a f.air? So long as they can see the f.air coming, they're not going far off the stage, and they're not really going to a bad spot. (Which I mean, come on, it's Doc's fair, it's pretty slow)

3) .... *thinks to self* "Hmm, an MLG combo setup.... lawl":laugh:

But yeah, you're right that it's the same CONCEPT as marth's, but it's nowhere near as useful. Reason being is when marth throws somebody to the ledge, he can d.tilt and cover all options involving staying at the ledge. With Doc, you have to flat out guess if they're going to tech or not, and if they do tech, where.

See what I mean?

Don't let this STOP you from doing it, cause i mean, if people fall for it, people fall for it. I'm just tryin to tell you what holes are in the idea.

*points up*
Any marth who's looking for a f.smash at this point either
1) Is just **** convinced you're gunna miss that tech, or tech in place.

or

2) Is ******** for not just taking the d.tilt, or hell, not doing ANYTHING and just reacting.

Well, that does happen too. But the big problem I have with platforms is not so much that people get out of chaingrabs, it's that I don't really know how to approach them anymore.

Just follow up with an attack when as they land on the platform. If you think they'll be up in time to shield, just grab instead.

Either
1) You don't know Marth

or

2) You're not thinking 'near the ledge'

LOL

This is exactly what Marth wants, it's just faster at setting up an edgeguard (AKA REALLY good thing for Marth)

Doc doesn't really benefit from getting someone off stage at 40% as much as Marth/Shiek/Falco/gay people. So following something with dsmash/fair/whatever when you can simply rack up more % and THEN do it won't help you as much. Most characters can either recover quickly or not take much damage in the recovery process against Doc.
Same cannot be said against Marth.

That's pretty much the sum of that as far as I see. :\

Ya dogy idk what ur talking about. Marth just fsmashes on reaction when fox misses the tech.

Dynamism doc's edgeguard is amazing the issue is that fair doesn't set up for edgeguards so it isn't practical to go for a missed tech fair at low % when you have the option of chain grabbing and grab comboing well into kill percents.

*slaps Dogy* you are forgiven.

I hate platforms while fighting marth. And then edges while fighting marth. (I have to practice my ledge teching or I won't survive)

I still have faith in Doc though. Somebody is gonna start winning tournaments consistently and get top 13 at one of these major tournaments (i.e. Pound 4 or Genesis)... using Dr. Mario.
if only the bracket would go my way, i'd have a slim chance of getting top 15-20 lol
