It's a little early, but voting is now closed! Please welcome Kick, Bread, Tinker Knight, and Quincy to the Companion Card roster! This means that they are ineligible for future fighter jobs.

Now for our next jobs!

Job 17/18: Submit special moves for Frisk and/or Cuphead!

Submit all five specials (Neutral, Forward, Back, Up, and Down) and a shield for either or both characters.

Job 19: Submit music for Duel Grounds!

I know we just had a music job, but this one's gonna be a bit trickier. Hopefully people are willing to take on the challenge!

Submit six music tracks for this stage. Despite this being a stage from a Smash fangame, no music from official Smash games will be allowed, including fan-made remixes. However, you may submit original music from Smash fangames (such as SSF2 and Crusade, for example), as well as music from other indie platform fighters.

All three jobs will close tomorrow afternoon.

Job 17: Frisk Moveset
I decided to focus on a pacifist-style Frisk, since I suspect Kris from Deltarune will make it onto the roster sooner or later, and they'd probably have a lot more actual attacks to work with.
  • Neutral Special: SPARE
    • A flash of yellow light is emitted from Frisk, pushing opponents away without doing any damage. While it's a good get-off-me tool, it can also be charged up to extend its radius. At full charge, it can even insta-KO opponents above 150%!
  • Forward Special: Flirt
    • Frisk points forwards, sending a small heart from their fingertip. Opponents hit by the heart will take miniscule damage, but will also take additional damage from attacks for a short time.
  • Back Special: Mother's Love
    • Toriel appears to give Frisk a helping hand, sending out five fireballs in an arc, with the space between each fireball growing larger as they fly. The fireballs aren't that strong, but they do cover a fair distance.
  • Up Special: Jetpack
    • Frisk uses the jetpack function of Alphys' cell phone to quickly boost themself upwards, dealing one strong hit of damage to opponents they hit on the way up. Once the jetpack runs out of fuel, though, Frisk enters freefall.
  • Down Special: Inventory
    • Frisk has three items in their inventory, being able to cycle through them like Hero's spells. However, each item can only be used once per stock, so be sure to use them wisely!
      • Butterscotch Pie: Heals 20%.
      • Faded Ribbon: Temporarily increases Frisk's defense.
      • Old Tutu: Temporarily increases Frisk's speed and dodging capabilities.
  • Guard: Green SOUL
    • Frisk's SOUL, now green, appears as the shield from their battle against Undyne appears in front of them. The shield can be moved with the control stick, allowing Frisk to block attacks from all angles. However, the shield cannot reflect projectiles, and it can never completely protect Frisk.
Job 18: Cuphead Moveset
  • Neutral Special: Shoot
    • Cuphead shoots his currently equipped weapon. Once he begins shooting, he can move around and jump as normal.
  • Forward Special: Charge Shot
    • Cuphead begins charging up a powerful shot, the strength and size of which depending on how long the move was charged. While Cuphead can move and jump while charging, he cannot attack, and dodging will cancel the charge.
  • Back Special: Aeroplane
    • Cuphead boards his aeroplane and flies straight forward (with the blades damaging opponents), being able to jump out of it like the Wario Bike. While flying, Cuphead can shoot his current weapon or jump out of the plane.
  • Up Special: Parry Slap
    • A pink dot appears beneath Cuphead, with him parrying off of it as a simple recovery move. While the distance it initially covers isn't the greatest, using it just above an opponent will damage them while boosting Cuphead upwards for a considerably greater distance.
  • Down Special: Weapon Swap
    • Cuphead swaps his currently equipped weapon.
      • Peashooter - Cuphead's basic shot. Flies straight forward, deals okay damage, no knockback.
      • Spread - Cuphead shoots three shots at an angle. They deal more damage and have more knockback, but are slower to fire and have less range.
  • Guard: Chaos Orbit
    • Cuphead summons four orbs which orbit around him, blocking attacks and damaging. Each orb has its own HP, and running out means that only that specific orb will break, leaving the others orbiting around Cuphead as normal.

Frisk's moveset is modeled after the one from Smash Bros. Lawl Beatdown, with some inspiration from the Chara mod for Rivals of Aether.

Frisk has two modes that must be chosen between at the beginning of each stock: ACT or FIGHT. ACT mode is weaker but is better at combos, while FIGHT is much more aggresive. Both modes have different specials. It's also worth noting that Frisk's red SOUL is present beside them at all times in battle.

Standard Special: ACT / FIGHT
1647622240217.png

In ACT mode, Frisk will try to talk to an opponent, or something else to that effect. If someone is standing in front of Frisk, a text window from Undertale will appear above the two describing what Frisk just did and how they reacted ("You complimented Shantae's dancing. She smiles warmly!") This temporarily lowers the amount of damage that opponent's attacks will deal to Frisk specifically. This nerf cannot be stacked, and there's a cooldown between reapplications.
1647622082498.png

In FIGHT mode, Frisk instead opens up the attack window from Undertale. The white line moves across the oval and stops whenever Frisk uses an attack. Frisk can keep moving while this window is opened, and if they use any attack, its power will be altered depending on the timing with the line. The closer the line is to the center, the stronger the attack will be. This can make Frisk's attacks stronger or weaker, both of which have strategic value. Specifically, however, pressing the special button while the attack window is out fires a projectile resembling the slash attack effect from Undertale, which again has power determined by the timing of the white line.

Forward Special: Yellow SOUL
1647622536164.png

The only special that remains the same in concept between modes. Frisk's SOUL turns yellow and flips sideways, with the pointed part facing in front of Frisk. When this appears, you can press any attack button to fire projectiles. You can also use the control stick to aim the SOUL up or down. Frisk cancels out of this if they shield or are struck with any attack. ACT mode Frisk has weaker projectiles that travel faster, while FIGHT mode Frisk has stronger projectiles that travel slower.

Back Special: Flirt / Intimidate
In ACT mode, Frisk will summon a text window saying "You flirted with [opponent's name]" This is a lot like the ACT standard special, except instead of lowering attack power, it lowers the enemy's movement speed. This can be stacked with ACT.
In FIGHT mode, Frisk instead temporarily triggers a "scary face" that resembles Chara. This stuns opponents, allowing you to get a followup attack.

Up Special: Jetpack / SOUL Leap
1647623464647.png

In ACT mode, Frisk's phone transforms into a jetpack and boosts them into the air. It does no damage, but you are free to act afterwards allowing for combo extensions into the air.
1647623480793.png

In FIGHT mode, Frisk's SOUL turns blue as they leap into the air with lowered gravity. Frisk swings their stick automatically at anyone they come close to.

Down Special: Determination.
1647623495141.png

In both modes, this move has Frisk place a SAVE point on the ground. In both modes, pressing down special a second time teleports Frisk to the save point, destroying it in the process. You can't place another SAVE point for a few seconds. Opponents can also destroy SAVE Points with their own attacks, or predict a teleport and punish your post-teleport lag.
In ACT mode, the SAVE point slowly heals anyone who stands close enough to it, similarly to the Healing Field item in Smash.
In FIGHT mode, the SAVE Point slowly damages anyone who stands close enough to it.
Frisk is affected by the SAVE Point's effects just as much as anyone else.

Shield: Green SOUL
1647623689598.png

Frisk's SOUL turns green, and a blue shield forms in front of it. This can only protect Frisk from one direction, but it can be angled and aimed in any direction you'd like. It stops all projectiles, but Frisk has absolutely no reflector options.

Since we're only doing one round of voting right now, let's do some smaller jobs in the meantime!

Job 20: Submit a substitute for the Smash Ball!
Submissions can either be from existing games or new creations for the thread. Note that this substitute doesn't have to act like the Smash Ball 1:1; It just has to give a fighter access to one of their super moves upon activation.

Speaking of...

Job 21/22: Submit super moves for Shovel Knight and/or Orcane!
Submit three super moves for either or both characters. Any kind of move is on the table (you may have to get a little creative with Orcane).

Super moves aren't necessarily exactly the same as Final Smashes; They don't have to be big, showstopping attacks, but they should be made with the idea that they are considerably more powerful than the fighter's standard specials in practice. As for voting, they would be voted on in batches (as in all three of your super moves would be considered as one submission when it comes time to vote).

Both jobs, as well as voting on Frisk's moveset, will close tomorrow night.

Job 20:
Super Move Meter

It would act like PSABR, where you could use Super Moves depending on Levels:
Level 1 - Weaker Super move
Level 2 - Normal Super Move
Level 3 - Strong Super Move

The meter would charge fully 1-3 times depends on how fast you could fill it.
However, it charges faster than in PSABR.

The idea is inspired by Playstation Allstars and I didn't wanted to post a Smash ball-like item, because it would feel like this game is too similar to Smash, so I wanted to post a different thing to make it more unique.

I think this could work; It isn't entirely what I was looking for, but I'll allow it.

When you say three Super Moves, are these meant to be like Final Smashes? And what do you have in mind with having us submit three of them? (would the Super Move be selected before the match from a list of three, or is it something else?)

Job 21: Shovel Knight's Super Moves
  1. Chicken - A comically large roasted chicken appears before Shovel Knight. He quickly gobbles it down, restoring 15% in the process.
  2. Flareo Rod - This souped-up version of the Flare Rod shoots out a fireball which expands into a large explosion upon contact with a foe, dealing big damage.
  3. Enchantress - The eponymous Enchantress looms large in the background as she begins to hurl fireballs into the fray. It's similar to Pit's Final Smash from Smash Brawl, to give a light comparison.
Job 22: Orcane's Super Moves
Forewarning: I had to get a bit creative here.
  1. Runes of Aether - Orcane begins to glow purple, entering a temporary "super mode". While in this state, Orcane has super armor on his strong attacks as all of his attacks gain more power.
  2. Bubble Geyser - Orcane does a handstand (with his back facing forwards) as he begins shooting bubbles out of his blowhole, dealing multiple hits of damage across a large area in front of himself.
  3. Gatekeepers - One Gatekeeper appears on each side of Orcane, generating a black hole above him. Nearby opponents are sucked into the black hole as it grows in size. Eventually, it bursts, launching trapped opponents.

Voting + submissions have closed! Here's the results:
  • We will be using the Frisk moveset designed by Torgo the Bear Torgo the Bear !
  • The Smash Ball "substitute", the PSABR-like super system submitted by Tankman from Newgrounds Tankman from Newgrounds , has won by default.
  • Same can be said for my super moves for Shovel Knight and Orcane.
    • One little note about these; I'm sorry for not getting into specifics about how I wanted these jobs to be handled going in. I will be sure to give a clearer picture of what I expect come the next super move job.
Onto the next set of jobs!

Job 23: Submit an analogue for Smash's Classic Mode!
Simply put, devise a mode which would work similarly to a Classic Mode in Smash; A simple series of back-to-back battles. Your mode can be inspired by a Classic Mode incarnation from Smash, a similar mode from another game, or your own creation. If you intend for bosses to be included in this mode, please specify so - I would love to open up jobs for bosses!

Job 24: Submit a shooting item!
Submit an item which shoots things. It can be a simple handheld item like Smash's Ray Gun, a more complex weapon like the Cracker Launcher, or even something like the Daybreaker - All that matters is that the item's primary purpose is to fire a projectile of some kind.

Both jobs will close tomorrow night.

Job 23: Classic Mode
My submission will be heavily inspired by the Classic Mode from Smash for 3DS; Each round, the player is prompted to select one of three battles; These battles can comprise of 1v1s, 2v2s (with the player gaining a CPU ally), and 4-player free-for-all matches. After three rounds, the player plays a bonus game to earn more points. This is followed by three more battles before the mode concludes with a boss battle, with the boss being set-in-stone depending on who the player's character is.

Job 24: Shooting Item
My submission is the Dart Gun from Enter the Gungeon.

Credit to /u/CaseyBestGun on Reddit!

This gun is similar to the Ray Gun in Smash, with the character's jab being replaced by them firing a sticky dart. In addition to dealing light damage and flinching, darts can also get stuck to their target, although this is nothing more than an amusing aesthetic detail.

Job 24;Pico's Gun (Pico's School/Friday Night Funkin')

1647814651603.png

Pico's gun is the main weapon from the eponymous protagonist of a flash game/web animation series and former Newgrounds' mascot, Pico.
the Pico's gun is similar to Ray Gun from Smash Games, but the projectile of the gun is a yellow laser and there is a detail: the Pico's gun glows yellow inside the gun hole when it is fired

Submissions have closed! We will be using my Classic Mode blueprint, as it has won by default. This also means that we will be doing boss jobs!

As for our projectile items, please vote on them via this StrawPoll: https://strawpoll.com/polls/ajnENqbbogW

Finally, our next job:

Job 25: Submit a boss!
Our first boss job begins now! No prerequisites here; Just submit a boss you would like to see in the game and explain how their fight would go. The number of bosses that'll get in for this job depends on how many entires are presented.

Item voting and boss submissions close tomorrow evening.

Job 25: Photoshop Flowey (UNDERTALE)

Photoshop Flowey (also known as Omega Flowey or Flowey X) is the final boss of UNDERTALE if the player decides to tackle the Neutral Route. After the player's fight with Asgore, Flowey intervenes to steal the six human souls the monster king had collected thus far, gaining godlike power and a new, more eldritch body to match.

Photoshop Flowey's fight would be remarkably simpler than it is in UNDERTALE, since there would only be one phase. However, the most notable aspect of Photoshop Flowey is his size; He would take up the entirety of the upper blast zone, and while the player is usually unable to pass through his arms, strong attacks can launch a fighter past them and into the side blast zones.

As for attacks, Photoshop Flowey would reprise some of his abilities from UNDERTALE, albiet in a less chaotic, less bullet-helly manner.
  • Botany Bombs: Several bombs drop from the sky, damaging the player with their explosions as soon as they hit the ground.
  • Dentata: Photoshop Flowey deploys a dentata which bounces around the screen for a short time, damaging the player upon contact.
  • Eye Sore: Photoshop Flowey fires several X-shaped bullets from his eyes at the player.
  • Finger Guns: Photoshop Flowey shoots flowery bullets from his fingertips towards the player.
  • Flamethrower: Photoshop Flowey deploys a flamethrower which spews fire forwards, dealing multiple hits to the player.
  • Friendliness Pellets: A yellow circle surrounds the player, with "friendliness pellets" appearing and closing in soon after to damage the player.
  • Vines: Several markings appear at the bottom of the screen. Soon after one appears, a series of vines shoots out to the top of the screen in its place.
Unlike UNDERTALE, Photoshop Flowey does not have an insane amount of attack resistance during the fight; His arms can be attacked, and if the player manages to hit the inside of Flowey's bottom mouth with a projectile or up air, it'll deal a critical hit.
----
Now, why Photoshop Flowey? Well, obvious answer out of the way, he's the main antagonist of his game, and while his second fight as Asriel Dreemurr would be cool, I think his Photoshop form is the more interesting of the two. As for Sans, while I love him, I think he's better off as a fighter or Companion Card than a boss.

Shoot - I forgot to submit something from Enter The Gungeon for the projectile weapon category. Still, I'm sure there will be another opportunity for that.

Job 25: The Devil (Cuphead)

The Devil is the final boss of Cuphead, who forced both Cuphead and Mugman to gather up his contracts (and defeat the various bosses) with their souls being forfeit if they can't accomplish this task in time.

A boss fight with the Devil would be similar to the final battle of Cuphead (though for the sake of simplicity, it would be based on the first two phases), though since the player has more than three hit points, it would (in theory) be less frustrating than it is in the source material.

The Devil sits on his throne, grinning menacingly as he watches whoever has dared to challenge him. Smaller purple demons will emerge from behind his throne to provide a minor obstacle that can be destroyed. He can shape-shift into a variety of forms:

-Goat - his head turns into a goat's head, his arms extend beyond either edge of the screen, and he tries to squash the player at ground level.

-Spider - he grows four extra arms and pulls off his head, which closely resembles a spider. As his headless body sits in the background with a beam of light shooting from his neck, his head will try to squish the player 3-5 times

-Snake - his head becomes a dragon-like serpent and extends to one side of the map to try and block it off, which makes it more likely that the minions will hit the player.

He can also chant, twirling his trident before summoning fireballs in various patterns - six fireballs in a pentagon pattern, five fireballs where four of them rotate around the fifth one, and four crystal balls that bounce around the stage.

Dealing enough damage (say, 666 - roughly 2/3 of his health bar) causes his head to separate from his body, growing huge and red as the ground beneath the player shatters, breaking off into five floating platforms. Now the Devil can fire flying bombs from his ears and axes from his eyes, and flaming poker chips will fall from the sky to destroy one of the platforms. (they'll regenerate after a certain amount of time, to prevent the fight from being unwinnable) While he's a much larger target, the player has much less of a foothold, so dodging his attacks becomes trickier.

Depleting his health bar causes him to burst into tears and explode.

Job #25: Big The Jonathan (100% Orange Juice)
1647907861507.png

(doesn't appear in card form during this fight)

What's the first thing that comes to mind when you hear the word "Scary"? How about "Terror," "Despair," "Hopelessness,"?
If the first thought isn't Big The Jonathan, then you haven't heard of him, and no words can express how truly sorry I feel that I was the person who introduced him to you.

"Jokes" aside, Big The Jonathan is a boss in the co-op mode of the 2013 Psychological Horror Digital Board Game 100% Orange Juice, a crossover game featuring all of Orange_Juice's properties (Like Suguri, QP Shooting, and Flying Red Barrel). Big The Jonathan should be considered because the community loves this dude and it would be funny for what seems to be a big seagull be one of the hardest bosses in this game.

1647909075118.png
Big The Jonathan gets his horrifying army of seagulls to sweep the area, hard to avoid but deals small damage each

Moves only done when below 50% Health
1647909197573.png
Big The Jonathan's aura is maddening, Big The Jonathan will do a little wave which produces a little sound-like wave projectile, which if landed will stun and confuse the foolish opponent for a while.

Essentially the above move "Cloud of Seagulls" but now the birds are pooping, essentially making it a bullet-hell game.

Big The Jonathan attacks directly by jumping around the stage dealing lots of damage and knockback to those hit by Big The Jonathan.

Voting for projectile items has closed! Our winner this time is Nuclear Throne's Disc Gun, submitted by Baysha Baysha !

Boss submissions have also closed - Due to the low number of submissions, one boss will be added through a StrawPoll vote: https://strawpoll.com/polls/PbZqoBlxBnN

While that is going on, we will be unveiling four new, smaller jobs.

Job 26/27: Submit animations for Shovel Knight and/or Orcane!
Let's finally finish up work on our default fighters! Please submit a stage entrance, three taunts, and/or three victory animations for either or both characters. Please note that each category of animations will constitute its own poll - For example, stage entrances will be one voting session, taunts will be a second, and victory animations will be a third. Also note that you do not need to submit in all three categories; Just do what you can!

Job 28/29: Submit alternate colors for Frisk and/or Cuphead!
Submit 8 or 16 alternate colors for either or both characters. Once again, model swaps are allowed (including alternate characters like Chara or Mugman), but any seperate character who is submitted as a model swap cannot be made into a seperate fighter in the future.

While boss voting will close tomorrow evening, submissions for Jobs 26-29 will go on until Thursday afternoon.

One final thing I would like to mention; I am running a seperate StrawPoll asking for feedback on the thread's handling of jobs - Please vote if you can: https://strawpoll.com/polls/ajnENqYMNgW

We're not doing Frisk animations just yet, but please do resubmit this when the time comes - I love it!

Frisk alts
I'm submitting these, drawn by Evilwaluigi on DeviantArt:
Screenshot 2022-03-22 164959.jpg

Just in case you can't tell (or just don't know), these alts are meant to reference Papyrus, Alphys, Undyne, Toriel, Sans, Mettaton, and Chara respectively. I should mention that while these alts do in fact change the color of Frisk's SOUL, the special moves that normally change it's color still function the same. But in cases where you're playing as, say, the Undyne alt with the Green SOUL and you shield, Frisk's SOUL will stay green, but it will flash a bit brighter while the shield is out.

HOWEVER! I would like to add eight more for a full 16, based on some additional characters and ideas that weren't around when this art was made.

The second half of alts all reuse the same SOUL colors in order as the first half, except for the final alt, which we'll talk about eventually...
Most of the second half of alts are based on Deltarune characters. If Kris joins the battle later on, we can replace these alts, as they would all probably be better fit for Kris. Anyways, here they are:

Boss voting has closed, and for the first time in All-Star Strife history, we have a two-way tie! Since this is our first boss job, I will not be holding a tiebreaker. Instead, we will be welcoming both The Devil and Big the Jonathan as our inaugural bosses! Don't fret, though - This is only the beginning of our boss jobs!

No new jobs for today, but submissions for Jobs 26-29 will be open until tomorrow afternoon, so take a look at those if you haven't already! This will be followed by a voting period; Then, we will unveil three new jobs, including our first character job in a while. Be sure to browse through your most-wanted list, because they just might be able to join the fight come Friday!

Voting for Jobs 26-29 have all closed! Here's the results:
  • Someone better order more checkpoints, since we'll be breaking a lot of them with Shovel Knight's entrance animation, courtesy of Wario Wario Wario Wario Wario Wario !
  • The votes for Frisk's alts have tied, so I'll be removing my self-vote to give Torgo the Bear Torgo the Bear the win! As such, Frisk will be our first 16-alt fighter, bringing in costumes inspired by both Undertale and Deltarune!
  • Finally, cashregister9 cashregister9 has brought in their set of Cuphead alts, adding Mugman and Ms. Chalice to the brawl!
The next batch of jobs will be posted shortly!

Job 30: Submit a fighter from a browser-based game!
Simply put, submit a character who originated from a browser game. The format doesn't matter; Flash, HTML, w/e - All that matters is that they must originate from a game that originally released on a browser.

Job 31: Submit a stage for a fighter who doesn't yet have one!
There are a few fighters who don't have a "home" stage yet - That is, one from their series. As such, please submit a stage for one of the following characters: Shovel Knight, Frisk, Cuphead, Quote, Shantae, Anton, Peacock, or Hat Kid. Ideally, the stage should be closely related to them specifically, but any stage from their game(s) is fine!

Job 32: Submit music for The Office!

We gotta keep the Puppet sleeping, so please pick out six songs to play on the Office stage! Music from the canon FNaF franchise is obviously A-OK, but music from non-canon games like FNaF World, Scott Cawthon's other games, and music from the Fazbear Fanverse will also be accepted. Please note that fansongs (such as It's Been So Long, meaning no funny man behind the slaughter) will not be accepted.

Submissions close tommorow evening!
