Are there any tips for the timing of Mario's UpB to walljump?

I can't do it to the point where it is practical for a recovery, only in Corneria where I just use it to stall above the huge turret.

well I have been practicing walljumps and i would say jump off the wall, Down+B high as you can, use your second jump, then Up+B.

if you dont have a second jump, then jump off the wall and in half a second hit Up+B

Here is a fact: if you grab the ledge and drop and jumps of the wall, your second jump is gone. When you are on the ledge, double tap the back direction fast and Mario will wall jump from holding the edge so you can do a aerial move and still have the second jump to recover back on the board

Kay so im having trouble getting the timing for this down. Any suggestions? And is this really a skill worth getting down or is bair fair and cape edgeguarding more effective?

i think i made a post about this, that tech is good for people recovering high, but if they go low you would be better positioned hanging of the ledge to guard.

For timing, u need to activate it before you can press back and do the jump saving jump - drop down from the ledge, jump and hold towards the stage while u jump. it is now activated, to jump hit the opposite direction (ive heard in 1 frame but i dunno about that)

isit worth learnin.. well yeah if your gonna do ledge hopped bairs u may aswell activate it seein as ur hangin off the edge anyway. if u spot a better edgeguard on stage, prolly go for that as u can mess this up and die

yeah you made a thread about it. but your way of Diing toward the stage first then walljumping is different from just tapping backwards twice which works also.

you can iwj from yoshis!? how, just by pressing back twice?! dont u need to moonwalk onto the ledge to activate it there, i never tried.

if so that totaly messes up the mechanics behind how it works >.<

Don't use the cstick. Its alot easier to learn with the other one. just quickly tapping y/x holding the desired direction then a and then L/R before you hit the ground.

Ok thats what I have been trying but I have'nt gotten it yet. Wanted to make sure there wasnt anything fancy about it that I didnt know about.I'll try harder(: thanks.

**** thats hard! I can do it using A alright but idk if its worth it.(alot harder to space aerials with out c-stick)
Very hard too do using the c-stick.

Here's something to consider.

Waveland at the end, right before you hit the ground. A lot of times, people'll lock up because of the perceived advancedness of the tech, and click shield as fast as they can, ineffectually.

So! You get into the habit of just clicking it right before you hit the ground. If you did the bair fast enough, it'll work, and if you didn't, then it just won't.

The advantage of this is seen in stuff like Marth's double fair, where people'll input off rhythm and end up missing the proper window.

Does that make sense?

You need to work on the basics more. Consistent L-cancels, short hops, wavedashes, dash dancing. You're missing a lot of stuff.

Don't roll towards people, it's super punishable. And if you feel they roll inwards a lot, just call it and f-smash the opposite way.

Why throw luigi up at 180+ damage? a backthrow might have cost him a stock or aat least a chance for an edguard... or a dthrow might have put him in range for a full jump nair or somthing. dthrow is also a great throw for setting up combos when at low percent. don't always go for the uthrow. mix it up.

wavelanding after a fullhop bair or uair is really helpfull. not only does it help confuse the opponent (they don't know if youll land and not move or waveland toward or away from them) but moves you around faster to be in a better offensive or defensive position. try that please. your plain L cancels and then dashing towards the luigi was killing me.xD

edgeguarding: hang onto that ledge. when luigi does his forward B either cape that fool or wait until the ending lag then ledgehop bair him before his up b. fireballs are also pretty good for edgeguarding.

also. marios jabs are amazing. jab>dsmash or jab>grab is pretty effective. just a tip.

Great potential though. Keep working at it!

I actually haven`t practiced L-Cancels yet at all. xD But I`ll keep on working it now

I think all that Up-throwing comes from playing against Falco wich my friend uses a lot. I guess all have to learn matchups better from that point of view.

Thanks for the tips anyway.
