Honestly, I think "4th parties" are a good idea for Smash in one very specific context (and also a context I generally think is a bad idea): a Nintendo crossover that also has strictly-Nintendo-adjacent third parties like Banjo and Mega Man. If a Nintendo crossover is incomplete without Mega Man, it's also incomplete without James Bond, Scrooge McDuck, and the Ninja Turtles

Honestly, I think Smash 64's Poke Balls were the best take on summon items in the series - I'm not 100% sure if it was an intentional design decision or just an N64 processing thing, but I like how they all (sans Clefairy) have only one attack, since that makes them a lot more fun to play around than ATs and certain Poke Balls basically just being 9th players. Admittedly though, if ATs had this design mentality, they'd need to make them throwable, a lot of Poke Balls just don't work if you throw them at nothing (Melee Porygon2)

I think that when people make Mario Kart rosters, they often fall into the trap of adding multiple characters who, to someone unfamiliar with the Mario Extended Universe, feel redundant. Like, people complain about having Peach and Peachette on the same roster, but to the average Mario Kart player, having both Tiptup and Koopa Troopa or Mad Scienstein and Dr. Crygor together would feel just as redundant.

Even as someone who loves platformers, agrees that Ultimate's DLC had a crippling visual variety problem, and really doesn't like defending post-Melee Smash, the argument that "platforming characters are more distinguishable than JRPG characters" is bizarre to me. There are just as many tropes in platforming character designs for reductive comparisons as there are in JRPG heroes - big conjoined eyes, use of mammals as opposed to reptiles/fish/birds/e.t.c., bipedal bodies, exaggeratedly large hands and feet, either orange or black fur, incomplete clothing, flat beige/white muzzles, so on
The Internet Historian always gave me a weird vibe - a lot of the videos he did were genuinely fascinating, I really loved the Harry Potter spoilers video especially, but at the same time he felt a bit... centrist if that makes sense? A lot of his videos tackled really horrible stuff with an obvious Saturday-Morning-tier two-dimensional good guy and bad guy but didn't bother to actually condemn anything beyond a vague disclaimer. It's the same way I feel about a lot of Chris Chan "documentaries", where she is obviously a victim to such a degree that none of her actual wrongdoings or crimes can negate that, but the conclusion is always some variation of "karma" or "bittersweet".

I do wonder if there's any unique gameplay ideas that could only be done in a platform fighter without any free-for-all or team battle compatibility whatsoever - I could imagine something where both players get to choose a stage at the start of the match, and every time someone takes a stock they're rewarded by the stage transforming into their choice. -
