I feel the people who say "Kirby isn't for kids because the bosses bleed!" have never watched a kids' cartoon in their life
And that's not even getting into anime, or the post-Adventure Time TV landscape where all kids shows are trying to one up each other in dark themes and imagery.

You could argue Zero is more agregious than those examples on virtue of just how much blood oozes out, but honestly Zero is such an abstract character design that I wouldn't have even registered the red orbs as blood if it weren't so commonly mentioned. Doesn't look like the sort of thing that'd have blood.

Even though it is overpriced I probably will get Sonic Origins Digital Deluxe - primarily for the connected story mode and "hard missions". Do we know if it'll have the ability to disable spin dash in 2 and 3K? I heavily doubt it given how both games have certain hazards and gimmicks that force it. but it would be a welcomed feature and I'd prefer it over playing Sonic 1 with spin dash given how easy it makes the game.

There is one living real world person (not a fictionalised version from a game like Kawashima or Tony Hawk) I'd be fine with in Smash: Tim Follin. His music really is the star of all the games he's worked on (except maybe Plok) and since he hasn't worked on many major gaming IPs you could composite all his popular music tracks into a single songlist without pissing off many fanbases. (though getting the licenses may be a problem, especially for the licensed games)

I'll probably do jobs on SMSB for submitting layouts and hazards for stages that didn't have enough detail in their submissions

I have to admit, Sonic Origins Digital Deluxe having a hard mode sold me on it.

If I had to choose a Mario RPG character to introduce into the main canon, it'd probably be Prince Peasley. Adding a prince alongside the princesses seems like such an obvious thing for the Mario universe to do, and there isn't much lore you have to get to understand the character conceptually like with say Fawful or Geno - there's a bean country next to the Mushroom Kingdom, it's enhabited by beans instead of mushrooms, extremely simple to grasp.

I'm personally partial to Vivian and she is a character who a return of is demanded, but I feel her design is so abstract (especially in regards to whether she's a ghost or not) that she could be offputting to casual players even if the entire fandom, casual and hardcore, miraculously agreed that having a trans character is OK. Lady Bow is a runner up, she's easily my favourite of the enemy-based RPG party members and would be super easy to sell casual players on ("existing character but girl" is a tried and tested trope, as is "gothic + feminine aesthetic")

I don't really get why you'd tone down the cplours here, I get it's to look more casual and less like kiddy-wear or cosplay, but either way it's a Yoshi-shaped onesie. It's gonna look stupid and extravagant.

Let me just put this out there: there will be a guest character job, possibly multiple, in the DLC cycle for SMSB, but Banjo; Sonic; and Pac-Man will all be 100% inelegible for what I have in mind. Link will probably only have one shot too.

Mr. Enter's Turning Red 9/11 Guy's "Growing Around" concept is really easy to fix, like just one tweak that completely removes the dystopian implications - just remove the adults and make it about a society of kids in adult roles. All you have to do now is put some storks in the backgrounds of scenes and BAM! No more literal 1984 subtext. The world he's created has some genuinely wonderful elements, it looks nice and the kid substitutes for adult activity are clever, but it just needs to drop the adults themselves.

Though I do still think Mascot Prep or Bozzlebag's Zip Code would be a better Shorty McShort Short to steal from. I need a HR Puffnstuff/Fat Albert hybrid isekai in my life.

I watched the leaked MVS footage (specifically red Jake vs. Harley) and, honestly, it looks bad. May just be that Jake is probably a lightweight being elastic and my eyes were drawn to him more than Harley on virtue of being, y'know, a giant shapeshifting red dog, but the game looked REALLY floaty - almost as much as PTE was - and the attacks looked like they had no impact whatsoever.

It's kinda funny how Min Min in Smash made Arms look LESS appealing to outsiders from a distance. If they had either let the game die gracefully or handled Min Min's moveset differently, the game probably would be remembered as a cult classic, (even if I personally don't think it's that good) but they just had to go for a last ditch effort and now the game is associated with desperation and crippling simplicity.

I have no clue if this'd be feasible from a design or development perspective, but I feel Mario Kart 8 probably should've had the Koopalings share a kart - I don't know if you could pull it off on a bike or ATV though.

I feel that EarthBound probably has a higher brand recognition among non-Nintendo fans now than a lot of Nintendo's former major IPs. (Metroid, Star Fox, F-Zero, e.t.c.)

I had a dream where the Kirby analog horror series was revealed to have been made by Nintendo as an ARG to promote and kick off an entire grimdark cinematic universe based on gross-out 90s Nintendo commercials.

If I had to make a Smash newcomer lineup designed to sell DLC, I'd have a pattern:

3. 80s/earlier fantasy

8. 00s funny
9. 00s fantasy
10. modern serious
11. modern funny
12. modern fantasy

(Fantasy in this case, meaning the more lighthearted, modern anime/Disney-esque idea of fantasy. Crono would be fantasy, Dragonborn would be serious.)
That way every age group and tonal preferance has something at least. An example of the sort of lineup this could entail would be...

There are some series that might blur the lines a little here though.

If there was room for 16 characters, I'd add "era Nintendo" as an extra set - though if enough time has passed when this hypothetical game is released it could be a split of "10s tone" and "20s tone" instead.

Episodic cartoons can be super hard to get into in the streaming/piracy age - streaming services weren't really designed with non-serialised TV content in mind, especially legacy content. When I watched the Simpsons on Disney+, I just watched the episodes I remembered enjoying as a kid and the ones I missed that's premises intrigued me, but if I didn't grow up on Simpsons I'd have no clue where to start even with the general "seasons 2 through 8 good, seasons 1 and 9 through 12 alright, everything else bad" baseline - there's just so many seasons in the golden age alone and it's got such a slow start that it'd be really hard to tell which episode would give you the best basis for who these characters are in a show where every episode, sans a few gimmick/spotlight episodes, is intended to hook you in for more the next week. Shorter shows with 2 to 4 seasons, maybe 5, are easier to manage getting through the whole backlog of, but you still can't really get that non-completionist casual TV watching experience anymore.

A "random episode" button would be really appreciated on streaming services, especially with season narrowng. Maybe even a random episode playlist option to replicate the classic TV experience.

If I made a public domain themed fighting game, I'd probably focus on super obscure stuff rather than the characters people still use and/or are associated with Disney (though Pooh would be there for sure). I'd also take major liberties from the source materials to create a sort of shared universe that, without context, would be hard to recognise as a crossover.

If Sony made Smash, I'd probably want DK to be Nintendo's first rep, but if Microsoft made Smash I'd prefer Mario and/or Luigi; a non-Pikachu/Lucario/Charizard Pokémon; or Link - if only because DK would feel very strictly pattern based and like he was just added because of his connections to Rare.

While I do think the concept of Pibby is fundamentally stupid and more fit for a band's barely-legally-distinct T-shirt than a full series, I will at least give it credit for sticking entirely to cartoons unlike WB's other megacrossovers.
