I personally see NASB having competitive mechanics less as "aiming for the wrong audience" and more as the game trusting kids to use their curiousity and creativity - detached from Melee's version of wavedashing and the culture/taboos that surround it, how do you think an 8 year old would react if they learned they could slide fast by airdashing into the ground? Probably less "this is too hard, I give up!" and more "wow! I gotta show my friends how fast I can go!" - kids love the element of discovery and learning new things, (even if they won't admit it) so surely a game with tons of techniques to learn and use hiding within a simple control scheme is what you should be going for?
If you look at how Nintendo distribute their games and consider which games a younger generation would have easier access to, FLUDD is way more of a dated reference than Cape. And it's also just a bad move in general.
It's funny how people are saying "I'm not a teenage girl, so I don't like/want to watch Turning Red!" when Pixar have made not one, but two, beloved children's movies with widowing vilomahs as the main protagonists.
Somebody posted on the Bad Smash Suggestions thread "give the men swimsuits, and the women winter outfits" and the general response was "YO! THAT'D BE RAD!"
Even ignoring the heteronormative implications of the original post, can anyone really tell me they don't love this itchy little thing?
The Nigel Ldair nerfs are really catching me off-guard. Gonna be hard to adjust to that.
People complain a lot about the lack of supers in NASB, but honestly... what would most of these characters' supers even be? Most super ideas that come to mind for this roster are either already in the movesets in some form (a fart for Ren & Stimpy, a scream for Oblina, Avatar state for Aang, Sandy's exploding lasso) or just a waste of a potential alt costume like Lincoln and CatDog's up Bs (Valkyrie Helga, Goofy Goober wizard SpongeBob, Robo-Reptar, Caped Avenger)

I'm honestly legitimately mad that the Mario Smash thread just voted to put Introducing Wario Deluxe on 9-Volt's Game Boy instead of Gamer.

I love the Pixar short Boundin' (jackalope and sheep) because it's so unabashedly and sincerely cutesy - like what people who don't like Disney movies think Disney movies are. It's basically the exact same movie from the bait-and-switch Simpsons Movie bunny trailer
I feel we could do with more media that's just unashamed of its sheer whimsy without needing wisecracks or metajokes - give me teddy bears without guns and dancing flowers who don't get massacred in a wildfire. As you get older you start to appreciate sincere stuff a lot more.
What I've seen of Homestar Runner has spot-on hillarious writing, but I just don't like that overly simplistic early 2000s webtoon aesthetic (more specifically how they handle their characters' limb proportions) so I can't exactly get into it - I understand the need for simplicity and easy-to-animate characters, but the limitation of Newgrounds stuff and such comes off more Atari 2600 than Hanna-Barbera or Jay Ward's NES compared to modern web (or its' own contemporary TV) animation. Understandable given these are unpaid teenagers in the dawn of a new medium, but still.
I find it weird how a lot of fanmade hypothetical Smash content treats Super Princess Peach and Luigi's Mansion as paramount parts of their protags' representation, but actively tries to tie Yoshi closer to Mario than his own games.
I find the trope in cartoons of adults just casually being friends with children they're not related to or working with (Mr. Dink from Doug as the most obvious example, Gazpacho from Chowder if you want to talk within the average profile poster's nostalgia range) really cute. I can kinda understand why people would find the idea off-putting, but the whole thing is relatable to me since as a kid most of my school friends were teens and as a teen most of my school friends were kids.
Beyond Melee has Sonic, which is very good but not surprising.
I feel the non-issue I've whined a lot about of Microsoft Smash rosters being too Rare-centric also applies to Disney XD/Channel cartoon stuff in Disney Smash rosters - thought at least with Rare I kinda get it, most if not all Smash fans are also Nintendo fans so their Microsoft knowledge starts and ends with Rare's stint at Nintendo, but the majority of Disney and Pixar's movies are so iconic and ubiquitous that even without all the acquisitions of major IPs (Marvel, Star Wars, Muppets, Simpsons) it seems weird to even give more than 1 or 2 characters to Disney TVA of all things, let alone such a big portion.
Moveset jobs in creation threads are weird because you'd expect them to be a big deal, but usually they get less responses than stuff like "what colours should the players' shields be"

Those Chocobo MTX look way worse than the CTR MTX, but I also don't want people disregarding the Chocobo game as a whole for it. I know how it feels to get the "isn't that game filled with MTX?" look.

On one hand, I like the idea of a PSASBR2 having one single Sony Animation rep like how CNPTE had Captain Planet as the sole Hanna-Barbera rep... but on the other, the only Sony movie I'd really be that interested in seeing adapted into a platform fighter character is Surf's Up, which would probably be the lowest priority of all the good Sony Animation movies - especially when there's... y'know, 6 Spider-Men to choose from.
If there was a Pokémon-only Smash game, I feel the human characters (especially from spin-offs) should be the summons, and Poké Balls should be a trapping item

I cannot pinpoint my opinions on EnchantedMob making crossover Minecraft fanimations of Huggy Wuggy while also being the creators of Huggy Wuggy - on one hand it's super cool an official developer is also willing to make fan works that tie in their creations with other properties they love, but on the other it does kinda read as a shady way to force kids into thinking Huggy Wuggy is the next big thing without having actually gained traction and fandom naturally like Sans, Steve, Freddy, and (the extremely out-of-place) Monika.
Hot take: a new Diddy Kong Racing shouldn't just not bring back Conker, but it should also exclude Banjo; Tiny; and Dixie to focus on original characters alongside Diddy and the original DKR cast. What I like about Diddy Kong Racing is that it's completely detached from the bigger series represented within with an all-original cast and tone, if it just became a mega Rareware/DK crossover with characters we already know it'd lose the appeal IMO.
Some of the fanmade remixes submitted to the Mario Smash thread have honestly been... kinda garbage. Amateur, synthy Newgrounds stuff.

If the Diddy Kong Racers get in the Mario Smash thread, I'm not sure if I want to have Tiny (a character intended from day 1 for the Mario universe), Timber (the original protagonist in development, and arguably still so in the game's plot), or Drumstick (the by-design best racer in the game and lore) be the default for my alts list - I do know that I'll submit Tiny with her DK64 design though. I have a feeling the DKR alts will be mostly minor changes like order, small character design things, maybe TT and Drumstick being swapped for Wizpig and Taj, so on. Either way, the DKR rosters (without the guests, Taj, Wizpig, or Dixie) do fit pretty snuggly into the 8 alts requirement. -
