Giving more thought, I'm mixed on MV.

On one hand, it looks pretty bad, especially when compared to Nick.

On the other, it's good that platform fighters are being seen as more than just "Smash clones" and some publishers are willing to give them budget.

I'm not saying "Ha! Step up your game, Smash!" with this, (Smash's lack of diversity is really the fault of gaming culture and general Japanese media, nothing else) nor am I even implying this was intentional on Ludosity's part (which TBH I'd rather it wasn't) I moreso just think it's kinda cool.

A lot of the NASB roster choices come off like the result of a single developer pushing really hard for and convincing the rest of the team to add their favourite (in fact, it's actually been confirmed by devs that's how Lucy and Oblina at least got in) - and I really love that.

I think Nick Brawl's devs had their priorities right with their deadlines quality-wise, (focusing on solid gameplay mechanics and movesets) but marketing-wise having a game themed on wacky kids' TV shows with no items or bonus modes is a little questionable. I hope items come by in an update at some point, hopefully including the Buhdeuce item that would've done nothing but scream.

I adore how Ludosity chose to make the Garfield lasagna kingdom with flying pizzas one of the competitive legal stages in Nick Brawl. That theming choice alone makes up for the ceilings on Ghost Zone and Sewer Slam being inaccessible on ranked mode.

If there was to be a "coding" themed Smash fighter, I think Kung Fu Man from MUGEN would be a good fit for it - have him be this bare bones shoto, no inputs, and give him a meter gimmick where he can increase or decrease variables for certain stats on the fly.

Not likely, given Elecbyte is dead and Nintendo may not want to promote MUGEN - which could be argued to be Smash's biggest rival, heh.

While I am glad Nick Brawl went the crossover route, I think an exclusively SpongeBob platfighter would've worked well too - at least if they were willing to delve into the one-offs and quick say-a-joke-and-go characters.
