With how many old game holdovers exist in Smash, I do wonder if "King Koopa" and "Princess Toadstool" would still be used if the series started on SNES or NES.

When you step back for a second, it's really weird how Smash fans priotise playable fighters over all other appearances to the extent that being completely absent from the game is basically the optimal 2nd second place scenario rather than being an assist trophy, super move teammate, or stage hazard, at least in the first few months of a DLC cycle.
I find it funny how a lot of Nintendo's longest lasting series debuted in really awkward circumstances that would basically be a death kneel for anything else.
Pikmin was GameCube, Splatoon was Wii U, Animal Crossing was an N64 game exclusive to the region where the hardware was least popular, Pokemon was a B&W Game Boy game mere months before the Color and multiple years after 3D became the norm, Kirby's second game was a two-years-post-SNES NES game, Mario Tennis was a double punch of Virtual Boy followed by late N64, Xenoblade had a shady GameStop exclusive deal, even Donkey Kong (and by extension Mario) had a really rocky arcade launch that led to the creation of Crazy Kong.

I am so glad that Two More Eggs seems to be getting a reappraisal, I actually watched that one as a kid instead of consuming it through Mr. Enter's second-hand smoke and loved it, probably because it's filled with ludicrously niche 90s references. I think a lot of 2010s-era cartoon writers overestimated how many kids were becoming familiar with old media through the internet, but luckily for me, I was the star that alligned and recognised the tropes/aesthetics pastiched by stuff like Trauncles, Hot Dip, and CGI Palz.

I get that "Hello Kitty is not a cat" actually just means that she doesn't act like a cat, but the fact that people were confused about this statement and made a PR headache out of it back in 2014 and they still doubled down a decade later solidifies in my head that she is actually just a bizarre mutant human.

what if smash started in the waning years of the wii u where nintendo knew it was a lost cause beyond saving but wanted to convince fans they didn't waste their money so they just released a bunch of games anyway. (it would be very easy to reuse assets)

The funny thing about having grown up on Mr. Enter-type hack fraud YouTube reviewers is that, now with retrospect, the things I remember from these reviews are not the reviews, but rather segments from the source material that were supposed to be funny, and I found funny, but convinced myself were funny "ironically" (which makes no sense.)

I got a Switch controller, and it has one of those useless turbo buttons, and I accidentally used it, and was greeted by the horrific sight of Hugh Neutron uncontrollably wavedashing straight off the ledge.
Been a while since I did a "one newcomer for every Smash series" list, but I felt like having another go, as since last time my thoughts have changed a lot on how Smash should handle roster selection - if you can even read it, ran into issues with the roster maker.
I'm reading DisneyWar, I'm only probably half way through the first (non-prologue) chapter, and already, there's a story about Michael Eisner almost physically fighting someone in the woods. He isn't even at Disney yet. -
