lots of time I ignore them, too. just jump right past em. Then specifically go for the person (if any) who is attacking them.
I usually get it front of them (codec) and (if I'm Lucas, which I usually am on BB) use PK fire as soon as somebody tries to attack em. works surprisinly well

Protect them of course! It helps spice up the battles a bit, plus making alliences is fun.

It really depends on who the player doing the codec is. If the player is a person that I really dislike (i.e. spam taunts when they get a K.O., spams, planks, camps a lot) I'll most likely just hit them once the codec almost started. If it is a player who I have nothing against, I'll just grab them once the codec just started or leave them alone. Lastly, if it is a guy who I taunt with I'll just taunt right next to them or stand right next to them to give some protection.

if they're pissing me off ill wait until the taunt is almost over then ill just do a single jab.
if there not annoying or anything ill protect them.

Codecs seems to not appear during final smashes. I think it happens even if someone is holding it.

For the codec, I don't mess with anybody until after they do it. As for a player who is not moving, I usually do A, C and D. But if someone is getting a free kill off said non-moving player, I go with B. I will not lose to someone who takes no effort in winning.

For the first question, while they're doing the codec thingy, I'll probably just be doing stuff in the meantime, like Zap Jumping, going under the stage, Arrow Looping, etc. If it's a friendly for the second one, I'd do the same as what I'd do for the first one. If it's Basic Brawl, I try doing combos and stuff =P Then I knock them offstage and say "oops."
