we get Mega Man and Sonic switch places (as in Mega Man is in brawl and Sonic is in Smash 4) meaning Mega Man has a more simplistic moveset but Sonic has a better one

Fine with me, I guess…?
Jigglypuff, Pichu, Dr. Mario, Squirtle, Ivysaur, Greninja, Corrin, Chrom, Isabelle, Incineroar, Piranha Plant and Byleth are dropped, but in their place we get Meowth, Scizor, Ayumi Tachibana, Solo Charizard, Snivy, Azura, Celica, Shadow, Alph, Ashley, Takamaru, Mimikyu and Edelgard.

honestly, this is a tough call, and there are some I would take on their own, but no
Baby Mario replaces Dr. Mario in all smash games

Not for Mega Man. He is foreign to me.
All of the characters in Ultimate are tied together by strange plot twists and relationships in the next installment.

Nah, KI just has more appealing characters to me.
Pressing the button allows 4th party characters to appear.
Not pressing it means 10 characters are permanently cut from the roster Thanos Style.

Shadow gets in, but his trailer isn’t really a trailer but more just Sakurai ranting, in English, with a cockney accent, about how Sonic should’ve stayed 2D forever like his baby Kirby and then spitefully looking at the screen and saying “Here’s ya’ damn edgy hedgehog. I wanted Bean the Dynamite, I really did, but Sega insisted he WaSn’T pArT oF tHe MoDeRn BrAnD iMaGe and you know what, ol’ Service Games? I WILL GET BEAN THE DYNAMITE IN SMASH SOME DAY!” before it cuts to Shadow gameplay with no music. The only songs in his challenger pack are “H - Sonic’s Schoolhouse” and “Level Clear (No Loop) - Sonic 3 and Knuckles”.

Absolutely not, there are definitely some assist trophies that would work terribly as fighters

I am not that interested in buying downloadable content to begin with... but I do not see the harm for those who are.
Every third-party newcomer is replaced with twice as many third party stages.

More characters are introduced with the 'ice' effect, at the expense of introducing fewer characters with the 'electric' effect.

Sonic's Final Smash becomes more fun to use, at the expense of being stupidly overpowered (up there with Zelda and Peach in terms of Final Smash tiers)

Akira, Alucard, Black Knight, Chef Kawasaki, Dillon, Ghirahim, Gray Fox, Guile, Isaac, Knuckle Joe, Knuckles, Krystal, Lyn, Midna, Rodin, Sablé Prince, Samurai Goroh, Shovel Knight, Spring Man, Starfy, Starman, Sukapon, Takamaru, Waluigi and Zero (assist trophies who can be knocked out and can fit in Smash as fighters) get promoted to fighters,
BUT
An equal number of fighters to the promoted trophies will be demoted to assists.

in Pyra's reveal trailer, right after the part she tells Rex she got invited to Smash Waluigi turns her into an assist trophy and becomes the fighter, however the rest of the Challenger Pack is still Xenoblade 2 themed and Pyra is added as an assist trophy as part of Waluigi's pack
