No preamble, ill just get right into it.
So something thats been bugging me for a while; is it just me, or is smash bros. by far the 'gayest' video game community?
Over the last five years ive participated a lot in the Battlefield series, DotA, WoW and some nintendo and IRL gaming communities. In all that time I have never seen such overuse of the terms 'gay', '****', '<3' and endless references to 'meatriding' etc whenever someone does something good, as I have in the smash bros community. Granted i've never really been a part of console gaming communities, my experiences are mostly from a PC background so I dont know how things are in Halo, SF etc.
Now I'm not homophobic or anything, I frequent the Lucario chat, which should say a lot lmao. Anyway Im just wondering is it just me, or is smash bros. really the 'gayest' gaming community out there? Every time I see people saying 'I love you' or simply '<3' in response to something they agree with it just gets on my nerves, was there not any other way you could have expressed your agreement? I have never seen this style of posting in all my years of living on various game forums.
I go to a university games club and most people there dont like, or even hate, smash bros and the reason is generally because smash bros is 'gay'. When I view SWF forums with this in mind, its not too hard to see why people might think that. Especially when just about every character has a 'gay' playstyle or 'gay' attacks as referenced by so many.
Or is it a case of smash bros simply having a much larger proportion of players who may actually be gay, and have no problems with telling anyone and everyone? Is there something about the game that attracts these people?
I got the urge to post this after someone asked why there was a p3nis in my signature... I truly can not believe how someone would see that >_<
