Although this blog as turned out pretty well. It was set out as a question and many of the replies have done a good job in answering it I guess consoles really do affect people differently. I know the facelessness in games like DotA can cause people to hate each other more than you ever thought possible, they know they will never meet them IRL (or at least hope so, or all the supposed 6"6 football players who play DotA all night are gonna kill each other in a fight HAHAHA).

Imo, Smash is 'gay' because it's a game filled with a bunch of Nintendo characters (Mario and the like who you'd normally associate kids playing those kind of games with) messing around in a pretty fashion, throwing a wonderful display of colourful things at each other. At the end of the fight, the winner does a dance and the other contestants politely clap

Maybe Smash is 'polite violence' rather than 'gay'

There's no blood, no tearing of limbs or breaking of faces in Smash Bros and the graphics don't look they've been dipped in gravy which is probably why people instantly feel the need to slag it off. Gay is the easiest mild insult thing to say, people say stuff is gay all the time

And DJ, you can't focus on just those remarks. There is plenty of intelligent discussion in these forums, or, for a lack of better, fitting words, serious.

Really, some things catch on. Personally, "get *****" is funny. Or at least I think. And honestly, I feel homo saying I love you or posting a <3. Not saying that it is homo, it's just the way I feel, so really, I never do that. But I can see why people might do that.

Everyone, or a lot of people, rather, are nice, kind and like to have fun. The first tourney I went to, there was much love, much respect and much fun.

On topic, though, every community can be "gay" in its on special way. Smash is a very versatile game, so you can get all sorts of people here, young and old, girl and female, gay and bisexual.
