Aw, you got a johnner for a friend, that sucks.

Have you checked your region's social forum? You might be able to find people close to you to Brawl with. There're a few people from GA who post here in the Pika forum, but I dunno GA that well, so I'm not sure how close you are to them....
OH MAN! GA?! I JUST GOT MY A** HANDED TO ME BY KISMET's FALCO. He's in Georgia somewhere.

Play that guy... no sandbaggin', no gayness, no johns.... ^_^.

Reflex (one of the best pokemon trainers in nation) is in GA somewhere too!

Bigman40 (scatz) a yoshi/pika main plays there also.

I just met with all of 'em at HERB 3 and they were pretty cool.

1-by-1 prescription:

Knock Samus into air ALWAYS:

1) If samus bombs to either side, u-air immediately
2) If samus n-airs in response to getting hit (to combo break you), STILL use u-air and hit him with tip of u-air (goes right through n-air)
3) If samus starts to d-air, STILL use u-air cuz it'll hit him before d-air even comes out (you must ALWAYS rush close to samus when you knock her up into the air--then you'll not have to worry about timing... you be right next to her, slightly below).
4) If samus DI's to the side and z-airs, who cares, you rush right underneath her anyways (cuz you are that fast) where z-air won't hit you (cuz samus sucks at fast falling) and USE u-air.
5) If samus starts to up-b in response, then (1) no samus's do that; (2) when it misses, charge up a smash to punish it or juggle with more u-air.

***When you land the first u-air, chase samus and land more u-airs. When you are falling and are about 5 pixels from the ground and you are landing on the ground, another u-air can come out, so GET USED TO BUFFERING so that when you land a half-u-air that almost shouldn't be able to happen, you can jump>u-air and pick samus back up for more punishment.***

6) If samus starts to AIRDODGE, if you do the first u-air at near full hop, then you can do a second u-air after samus comes out of the airdodge >>> if you haven't realized yet, SAMUS CAN DO NOTHING AGAINST u-AIR. USE IT! Samus only has like a 1/15 chances of doing ANYTHING that could get her out of properly spaced u-air (example: you slightly DI left, she DI's really right and does a bomb jump to the right--only way she can get out if you are good).

6 Part 2) If she starts to airdodge, add in some charged wakeup f-smashes, and u-smash as punishment. Samus has horrible fastfalling capabilities, so you can always drop after u-airs, bait the airdodge, and hit HARD with a smash of some kind. It's a lot easier than you think.

***Ground game***

-Double jump rush over missiles

-sprint on ground when samus is doing z-air

-Double jump over charge shots

-When sheilding missiles, ALWAYS go from shield to immediate spotdodge and it'll prevent any grab followups and if you time right, even the dash attacks setups.

-When sheilding jab cancels, ALWAYS jump out of them and punish either by t-jolt or straight up assault. It'll prevent d-air mindgames and grab mindgames and d-tilt mindgames.

I hope that was detailed enough. Again... reference my videos in the archives or at www.youtube.com/shadowcase to see all of this happening.

*gets awesome advice from ldpk*
*STUDIES*

EEE thank you ldpk that was very detailed and I WILL become better at this.
esp shielding and auto-spododging I have no idea why I never thought of doing that!

*throws love at ldpk*
Really, thankyou! :)

You destroyed that mario. He just is not good. Either teach him how to play better (sheild once in a while, sdi out of your Dsmash) or play better players. If you keep fighting him you might end up developing crappy habbits that work only against him.

As for your gameplay, I like it. You're aggressive to the point of kamikazi, but it works against a noob, haha. Just remember that when you fight good players, they're just gonna capitalize on your over-aggressiveness.

Second video: dash attacking off the start is a bad idea. Even if you hit them they don't have enough hitstun to keep them from doing whatever they want back.

@ 0:07 you did a fair to dsmash, while I'm sure it pisses the mario off immensly, once he figures out to sdi, grabing, or doing another attack becomes the better choice out of a fair.

@ 0:12 you were floating in the air after having just used a nair. I would have tried to QA back onto the edge to gimp mario. It'd be a little risky; the timing for releasing the control stick so that you don't just QA past the ledge is fairly tight, and mario could have stage-spiked you with an upB, but I think it'd be worth a try. Especially where you're fighting someone that's not putting a lot of pressure on you, that is the time to practice the risky stuff.

@ 0:15 you airdodged right into ftilt. It's generally a bad idea to try and land near players because you have at least 2 frames of vulnerability(maybe more, not sure) when you land.

@ 0:23 you had mario in the jab lock. I would have just tried to end it there with a thunder. It's not guaranteed at that %, but I'm sure that mario would have died. Does anyone know how the mario got out of that jab lock? It kinda looked like he shouldn't have been able to.

@ 0:30 you simply should have ledgehogged.

@ 1:40 LOL. You should know that that wasn't an actual combo, but it was fun to watch.

Did I help at all?

Critique plz :) by the way M3T is the best GnW in our state

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AwlNvrAkpEM
A few things I noticed:

Work on your grab followups. You followed a low % fthrow with a dash attack (I'm assuming you just messed up the button input, but still lol). Buffer a dash and immediately c-stick up after you start dashing after fthrow's below 30% or so. Also be mindful of your opponent's % when you dthrow, you threw out a utilt after your first dthrow when he was at like 120% and there was no way it could hit.

G&W is going to momentum cancel with his bucket. Remember that when going for thunder kills. You were kinda lucky he got impatient with that bucket, a full bucket off pikachu's moves kills at something ******** like 20% from the middle of FD.

Uair is so very much your friend. You need to work it in to your game, at low and mid %'s it combos in to itself or a nair, and it makes being above you not very safe. I remember one time G&W full hopped a nair and you were standing directly below him, that was a perfect time for a uair, for example.

Don't tjolt out of habit. Use it as a setup or to limit options in some way. When he realized that you tjolted any time you were on opposite sides of the stage, his bucket started to fill very quickly.

Our best momentum cancel is uair->skull bash. Don't skull bash unless you need to or know it's safe because it's very punishable for a lot of characters, but get in the habit of throwing that uair out when you get hit hard. I noticed you were fairing which isn't as good.

You did pretty well in a tough MU for pika though, keep at it!

Just a few things I saw, not going to go way in depth:

don't roll on platforms, and not so much on the ground either, you'd be better off just dashing/qaing away in a lot of situations. on platforms if you do it you just get eaten by a nair.

learn to tech the dthrow, it takes practice, just go into training mode with a friend or something and get it down. you took a lot of dsmashes because of it.

tjolting against gdub is dangerous, i only like to do it when they're off the stage and i want him to fall low enough from the lag of bucketing one or doing it when he's charging a smash because gdubs usually buffer the dtilt of that junk and you get punished. jolt is pretty safe and not bad percent for those situations.

i know this is way out there but when people di out of my dsmash and i see they dont tech or think they won't because they're just mashing out, i buffer a qac to try to get a qac lock. again, practice.

Nice matches esam/lamb.. with esam vs riddle.. that zss is your brother right? cause he knew everything you was gona do before you did it.. especially on the neutral stage but you still did o.k i think and with lamb that luigi seemed troublesome! I would personally try yo grab and jolt more against luigi's also more smash attacks.. you was doing quite alot of neutral Airs vs him.

I got some new matches with a snake ranked top 3 in europe (he is actually the best imo). Calzorz

Prime... can you put this up when you have the time..

Wow didnt know Bking had a SWF account hes just like Z rarely see but is just there. At least anther posts once in a blue moon but you dont "see" bking or z post ever unless your here like 24/7.

Keep snake in the air. Beware of snake's ftilt and utilt which utilt kills us DI or not b4 120%. Cgs are good but make sure you watch his nades. Be aware of snake's options after his dthrow and yours. Watch for DACUS. Thundering his recovery should be advised. Watch out for c4 and mines. His uair and bair are his main aerials you need to watch out for his nair its not as good as others but its still to be notified for the damage it gives. Fair is by fair your least to be worried about aerial but it spikes and kills even if it doesnt spike. Utilize tjolts, uair, utilt, dthrow(if he lays a nade find a way to use it against him nades do good damage), fthrow, and nair. From my pooint of view this is what I suggest. Look at the mu thread. The outdated dicussion is pretty good info outdated or not.

Yo BKing Hoe4u here, if your a stock down, out camp snake, play safe, both me n Ixis was watching your vid at mine (Who wants a re-match aswell), and we noticed you used dair to approach loads, Ixis suggested not using that as an approach cause calz cud punish with ftilt but didnt :psycho: lol
Im sure you know how to outcamp snake tho, so that should be a breeze if your lyk down by percentage

Edit: Also dnt risk the thunder without a jump or wavebounce on the ground snake will get you multiple ways. No matter how much you want to fast fall your fair dnt risk it cause of the seconds of lag. oh and when you jump on and off the stage and thunder and snakes near you, sakes gonna bair so, dtilt, hold back straight after then fsmash straight away you get pull back and are garrentied to catch snakes foot

Very entertaining matches, ESAM. I have to say, you jump with uair like me, you do the t-jolt rush to grab like me, you often fall with t-jolts like me, you like to meet your opponent in the air with a fair, and you thunder as the opponent's falling towards you, you often run, shield, run and grab like me (Anther does that quite a bit too :p) and more things that I'd be here all night if I tried to explain it. How do we play so similarly and yet.....
Well thanks. I know I'm about to make an explosive entrance into the NY scene. :)

I've been meaning to get some critique for a while now, but since I'm still mostly restricted to WiFi it's been hard to find material that would properly suffice for the purpose.

Maybe over the summer I can actually get a few without the influence of lag/input delay.

Anyhow, I'm about 99.5% positive I should have won these, WiFi or no, so I'm looking for help figuring out the reasons (aside from lag johns) why I failed. Anything matchup-specific would also be helpful.

:pikachu2: ElNoNombreHombre vs :zelda: Aibou WiFi
  • Round 2
  • Round 3 (This was a CP vs the player rather than the character.)

(Round 1 missing because I totally screwed that one up--it's not indicative of me at my best.)

Argh. I have such a tough time winning the close ones. Thanks in advance for anyone willing to look at 'em.

Looking at your second video(round 3):

@0:11 you used a second uair and it hits, but it still leaves you open. I would have moved to the left as you did that move, or used nair and moved to the left.

@0:16 you usedd thunder at just a silly place. zelda was way too close. I would have opted for a short hopped uair.

@0:35 This is interesting. I would have expected zelda to land on the platform, so I would have jumped up an used nair or bair. If you were expecting zelda to fall through and airdodge, then I suppose it was a good idea to dsmash. Just depends on what you think they're going to do I guess. But remember; if they're going to fall through, they can dodge before they go through the platform, so it would be fairly safe to do an attack up through it.

@0:54 I'd use QA to get out of stick situations like that. Just short hop fairs or whatever until zelda uses a laggy attack. then just QA straight through. A safer option would be to get to the platform way above you and get out that way.

...which you eventually did do, lol.

@1:21 This is one of those really lame situations. Zelda had you in a dtilt thing. Even though you were close to the side, I would have tried to SDI out toward the edge. Most zeldas will do two dtilts before going for the dsmash, and I think you might have died from a dsmash at that % anyway.

@1:29 You hit him with an fsmash, and he was on the ground. People's natural instinct is to get away from the death zone, so my choice would have been to charge an fsmash in anticipation of a roll towards you. This is of course dependent on what the current metagame is between you two. mindgames and whatnot.

lol @ 2:38

@2:49 you jumped and did a thunder. It was kinda pointless and left you wide open to a nasty uair from zelda. Or a lightning kick, if he was pro.

@3:20 were you jabing the statue to refresh your moves? Not a bad idea.

@3:49 you used a full hopped tjolt, then landed, and with zelda relatively close to you, used an fsmash. I'd consider that pretty unsafe. Go with a dtilt or shac dair.

@4:16 when they're at high damage like that, I'd be trying to land a nair. I suppose if you keep going with the uairs they'd get pissed off enough that they'll screw up, but the risk/reward for a nair is at the point where I'd use it.

Lol at zelda living to 200%. You were just throwing out random smashes hopping to kill her. That just won't do. You have to be close enough to do them when she lands, or just use nairs. I would have used QAC>Nair a couple of times. Zelda wasn't throwing out random attack that would have prevented it from working.

When I said he wasnt trying today he killed himself and wasted a hour. Im pretty sure cpus are just a waste of time to critique. Your friend needs to press something other than "b", that or pick MK where that strategy can actually win you a tourney.

Zeroxius's Replays

CRITIQUE

Here are my replays I obtained today at Smash The State 3.
There were several epic fails here and there, but I figured it wasn't about me beating the person perfectly, but showing my true level of skill. So I uploaded the replays fails and all. (Most of the vids are me playing for the first/second or so time to warm up)

I got better at my playstyle by the end of the tourney to make a long story short, but these recordings were taken at the very beginning. They were all recorded by Chaos Leader.

I ended up making 9th place out of about 27 some odd people there. The top 8 players all advanced to the pro bracket. (Sooo clooose!) Again, that doesn't mean that everyone else at the tourney was bad, it just means that I got better and more comfortable.

I already have a good idea of what I need to improve, but I am curious as to what you will say.

Somehow, I never got to play a tourney match on the recording TV. I don't think that matters much though.

Here are the links for critique:

Getting better and better every day - with your help! Thanks a lot for critiquing my Pikachu!

Pikaaaaa~ <3

Edit: after re watching most of those vids, I have concluded that Weegees give me trouble, and that I spammed thunder too much. -.-

zero!

yeah weegee mu is hard. remember, dont go in the air with him too much, ull lose hard, stay grounded. Id say yeah qac is wooooo fun but try to cut down on it alot, only use it like once or twice a match. u got it to work well on ps2 when u dsmshd out of it but dont overuse it, its got horrid priority

besides that just work on not being as flashy lol. i saw alot random skull bashes that i assume was you trying to qa but u messed up. myabe work on tech skill in training a bit. I find that practicing tech stuff like qac and b reversals wth snake really helps, even if ur practicing gettng the timing on ur tilts in training its super helpful.

besides that just keep playing and ull learn the mu's, just gotta be patient!

Edit: ok after watching ur last vid i just realized, if you qac, u shld stop doing it at such an akward angle. you go up then down at an angle and u fumbled last match. try going just down at the ground or straight then down, i know that will help you if u like to qac, just takes more practice!

Yeah, most of those skull bashes were me not getting the control stick all the way to the up position when I waned to QA.

Yeah, I do it at a wierd angle. I know how to get it straight accross the stage instead of a ^ type pattern, but sometimes my finger just doesn't get quite straight left or right.

I don't know what I was going. Mindgames? I don't remember lol.

yea the angle thingy is out of habit. u go at that angle ^ cuz ur used to it and it takes time to break bad habbits. u have a couple mixups that worked well, just its risky cuz u gotta make sure u land it and dont flop. thats why most pikas do the straight then down, cuz u get more distance. itll be hard to break cuz u dont wana have to think about inputs when u play, u just wana do em. just takes practice!
