I want to ask why Jungle Japes (JJ) isnt allowed in this ruleset?
How is the reasoning for that?

I dont understand how RC & Brinstar can be allowed, but JJ is banned, whats the reason?

Serious question.
(And getting a bit back on topic)

Stage is too big(cave of life) and there is permanent water (broken camping) and a random crazy hazard that kills at 0%(some kind of ganonfish). Its also not very pretty with or without textures.

When AKUMA wants to know why a stage is banned... geez.

Stage is banned because they said so back before 1.0, basically. It'll be legal eventually, there's simply too much pressure in its favor to not legalize it. The only real argument is that Falco and DK are too strong here, but that argument really holds no water (/pun) as long as MK is legal.

The only blastline that's too far is the top one, but the side blastlines are short, and the bottom blastline is a rushing river with 2 hazards. Provide for early kills imo.

The water camping is not broken in the slightest, lol. I tested this a while back. It's no better than regular onstage camping.

The klap trap won't kill you at 0%. If you fly into it at 0%, the water will stop you. If you fly into it again, however, it'll kill you. That'll be like at 30% or so. Regardless, it's on a timer, so it doesn't matter.

There's no reason for it to be banned really.

But, Twinkie, you can't expect a top level player to keep up with a predictable timed event.

You guys think most of the people affected by the stage are top players? They are only like...5% of the people following the ruleset, and we have to make sure it is fair to EVERYBODY and ANY skill level.

I don't know much about Japes since it has never been legal in Florida, so I'll leave it to somebody else from the BRC to answer better.

If MLG Couldn't get most people to use Norfair it's chances for adoption are slim to none.
Are there any other arguments concerning the legality of the stage? I didn't know MLG was the end-all to these decisions...

I personally like it. I took the time to learn it and the one problem are the flares...but other than that, that stage is perfectly fine.

My point is that even with MLG backing the stage with the largest tournaments and the most money, only a few TOs were willing to accept it.

It doesn't matter what you want to theorycraft about a stage at the end of the day if you can't get most TO's to want to use it it won't be used.

DO IT! If it is deemed a super competitive stage the BRC will have new opinions, as will the public. Also...haven't you been doing that analysis for like...2 months?

It's a lot bigger and more time consuming than I thought it would be.

And it's only been a little less than a month.

Go for it, Twinkie. It's a fantastic stage, and I really think it's tournament worthy.

Anything to push for legalizing it.

Sonic could use a replacement "super gay timeout stage with random deaths solving his kill problems" counterpick. So go ahead and bring back Norfair.

Japes is an okay stage. though MK has eaaaasy timeouts there against most of the roster :(

I guess there's nothing WRONG with it. though I'd personally like for it to stay banned even though it's lucario's best stage... just meh

lol yeah this.

That was exactly my point.

I think overall JJ would nerf MK more than benefit, as MKs would CP Brinstar/RC ANYWAY.
And how many MK matches have you seen going to time? 1? 2? More like 50% :p?

BUT with JJ added, MK will sometimes have to ban it probably.
And then Falcos could CP FD for example.

But other than that, we shouldnt look to much at characters anyway :p

I really wish some of the BRC could answer to my question why Japes isnt allowed. I just dont see any good reasoning, with RC/Brinstar being legal at the same time.

It's because people don't like the stage.
They're afraid of people not using the unity ruleset, so it's made so that as many people will like it as possible.

Japes by far promotes extremely campy gameplay, which doesn't really suit the nature of the game we are shooting for. While time outs are a legitimate form of play, we feel that a stage that straight up promotes gameplay based around camping/avoidance doesn't fit well in competitive play. Or at least this is the reason I feel we somewhat came to.

Also I've been playing the AiB ladder recently, which has Japes legal. I've been CP'ing it a lot to be more use to it, and my mind hasn't changed at all. And for those that think it's not good on it, 90% of the time I play on that stage I use MK and it's a really good stage for him lmao. Like better than most.

As good as Delfino, Frigate, RC or Brinstar?
Doubt it.

What I don't like about this is that it shows preference over certain legitimate strategies over others. Camping and timeouts are legitimate types of competitive strategies, yet the stage is banned because the stage is straight up camping. Well.... Rainbow Cruise is straight up aerial combat. Are we gonna ban that?

I can understand if people simply didn't like it, and it's banned because of that. However, I don't think it should be banned because the stage is unfit for competitive play, because that's false, and creates double standards all over the place.
