Why won't you just accept different people's views, no one thinks the same? All I get is butt hurt and defensive replies putting me down. Yes I have had little time actually being in the community and I am only known through Atomsk. I don't get to go places often due to my health and living hours away from tournaments.... And I probably have only met around 20 smashers in person, but that doesn't mean I'm ignorant and know absolutely nothing about this game. I don't need to know everything to be able to say anything. In my opinion, there’s no right or wrong really... it's all based on your own experiences and background. That is why I accept everyones thoughts when it comes to anything and everything. What I was saying and why I wanted to come in here was to say Jason good explanation and thank you for your honesty. Hopefully next time goes better for you. Your a great player, You have such dedication with this game and such talent for video games, and I am happy for all the success you have triumphed through the past years in the smash community. You've probably made life long friends, and have made more money than I can imagine. I hope next year IF MLG still has brawl, I hope you can feel that Happiness of winning at the finals if it doesn't happen this year.

If I'm correct, Tekken is endorsed by Sony for MLG AND the game gets players from around the world so far at every MLG. Smash hasn't brought that kind of hype...yet.

Those are like secondary objectives, the primary objective is to get people into MLG, and therefore spending money. Which Smash has done much better in then Tekken.

Important fact:

To people saying that any even suggestion of match fixing or a split ruins the expectation that every player must play to their best ability and try to win...

at MLG Raleigh finals with M2K/Lee Martin, Lee went Toon Link and Ike, after losing the initial Meta ditto solidly (as he expected). Not that it would be impossible to pick those characters but you could tell from everyone joking/laughing and some of the fancy/silly stuff he was throwing at M2K with them... we all know what it's like. But in the case of MLG considering any sort of contamination to the competitive law of the competition to be really serious, well, I think the Raleigh finals are WAY WAY closer to that than this little accident. Despite it not being impossible for Lee to upset M2K it was definitely a low-intensity silly set, where M2K in this case was already almost positive he couldn't win anyways; and money isn't the only prize, there are rankings, more publicity, and a lot of various bonuses other than the size of the check. EVEN if M2K had fully confirmed the split with ADHD beforehand, he would still have a lot of other things on the line from the possibility of placing first again, and that alone is enough to give him more desire and aim to win than Lee had in Raleigh.

But I will say, Brawl doesn't have to be in MLG. I remember the Raleigh ad brawl wasn't even IN the ad.

Tekken 6 is a very enjoyable game to watch. Brawl, to me at least, at this level of play in our current time-period can be just as exciting. if not, more.
I think a lot of the time people over-look Brawl's high-level play.

I know there is a majority of people that enjoy this game while under the influence and/or play casually without trying to gain any sort of skill.

A lot of the times with the games that are in MLG people play competitively most of the time. whether or not they are at a tournament.

There are Brawl tournaments and get-togethers going on all over the U.S. and MLG is just a minute detail that I feel is overrated. MLG is the face of gaming so I can understand why people would take it so seriously. but I wouldn't go that far to support MLG brawling. If they won't ad Brawl then it obviously isn't a big deal to them and the people on the 'outside' of high-level play.

In the end, the Brawl scene won't die just because MLG drops it. Brawl has many other means to shine and shine even brighter than MLG.

So, after nine pages on 40ppp, no one has touched on the real issue.


He is being accused of throwing the match to mess with the ranking. By the given explanation, that was not what they are saying is their intent, but for all intensive purposes, it comes off as bribery for a thrown match to outside viewers. This interpretation was enhanced by their initial doctoring of their stories, making them out as guilty parties.

His placing 1st instead of 3rd changes the overall seedings for the next event, which affects more than just himself or Jason. MLG took the proper action as a legitimate league. Once you start bending rules, then everything degenerates.

This time it had a limited effect, but would it be as easy to forgive if it had turned out like Raleigh's bracket, except instead of DQ's for being late, matches had be purposefully lost to give a friend an easier bracket?

I hate to see Wyatt and Jason lose out like this, and maybe MLG will lighten their punishment. That being said, would people be throwing as much of a stink if it were other players being affected? Randoms? Semi-pros? At least MLG is being unbiased and following their rules as set by signed contracts.



Also, Tekken has almost doubled their entrants at every event, and have a Sony sponsorship (as was mentioned). Capcom refuses to let MLG run SF, which is why they have Tekken.

This is what I don't like about the smash community though, you guys SEEM to get very upset when something gets said you DONT like and seem to be more stubborn and single-minded than alot of other people and communities.

I'm worried about the community's image at least as much as either of these players at this point.

Between this and everything Cheese has done lately, I'm beginning to wonder if these guys know what the 'Professional' stands for in 'Professional Gamer'.

Being professional is not just about making enough money off of what you do to fund something. It's about maintaining professional standards and ethics. Starcraft players in Korea don't just need to be good at the game, they need to be marketable. I don't think these players really fully appreciate the opportunity that was given to them.

I am most worried about the fact that Brawl, which is already subject to very prejudiced views, is now going to be damaged by this.

People should keep this in mind, and make supporting their communities (instead of trying to get the most out of them) their top priorities.

I run smash tournaments in Queensland, Australia. And it is so small that everyone knows each other. And everyone helps, and it's never about the money. My tournaments are never more than perhaps 20 people, and that is considered a large, state level tournament around here. I envy so much what America can take for granted, and yet I see these stories of players serving their own interests instead of that of the wider community.

To be fair, for each of these players, there are many more that are indivduals that should represent the best side of the smash community. The tireless work of Major American TOs like Alex Strife, and the people who look to the bigger picture like ChiboSempai and bringing companies like vVv into the mix. To me, bringing a sponsor into smash is not just about making things more financially viable, but improving the image of smash, and I think that should be paramount.

At least I can say well done on making this post M2k.

I was debating splitting but then I said, "Let's just see what happens," and then I won. I just wanted to talk about the split later. It wasn't my fault that he sandbagged, he merely thought I'd have a better chance against Rich Brown right afterwards. He specifically told me that I had a better shot vs. Rich Brown, and that he thought he would lose--but I didn't agree with that. Then, after I won the tourney, I told him that I'd give him 300 dollars whenever I would see him next. I've split multiple times in the past as a previous tradition, and I have no reason to degrade myself just so I can advance in bracket. I have probably the best record against Mew2king besides anyone else in this Brawl community.

This needs to be re-said.

Seriously, this means that he was attempting to conspire to alter the outcome by trying to make it so that Rich Brown wouldn't take first. If you are trying to defend yourself, then start by not opening your mouth because you are simply incriminating yourself more.
