Time for some history: today marks Juneteenth, the day where the last slaves were set free in America. The Emancipation Proclamation was already in effect 2 years earlier, but Galveston, Texas continued to practice it. Being unlawful, the gov eventually cracked down on it. While Juneteenth has been recognized for over a century (Civil Rights Act was passed on this day), it was just proclaimed as a US federal holiday in 2021.

So happy black independence day to all yhe black peeps out there. Wooo.

It definitely wasn't a strong film or anything on its own merits, but for a guy who's been raised on the plumber brothers for as long as I can remember, I had a big, stupid smile on my face throughout the bulk of it. Really fun stuff.

DAY 01 RED: Kaine Parker (Scarlet Spider II) Starting up my Color Wheel posts.


Also got started on World 6 of Mario 3D Land. Been only moving forward with it when I 100% a level. So far, Luigi and Peach have the fun and goofy movement that I like. Though Mario's not bad either by any means.

Apparently according to insiders, expect a first trailer for Kraven the Hunter on Wednesday. I really do not have high expectations of this considering if I have to be honest.

Rumors have it from the guy that leaked 1-2-Switch's mentioned a new 2D Mario and some SNES remake.

Don't know how much of that will be true, but I hope it'll stand out a bit from the NSMB games by having more visual and musical identity. Other than that, I think a dream Mario 2D Platformer would be to have Mario, Luigi, Peach, Rosalina, and Wario as playable characters, Toad too I guess, but just not being half the roster I guess. Others would be cool, but its not like Daisy has her own gimmick yet.

I can't imagine Nintendo continuing with the "New" SMB series as it's gotten stale and been going on long enough. Whatever it is, it'll probably try to reinvent the series.

As for the SNES Remake, I'm sure it's not a title found in the Switch Online app. The only real SNES game Nintendo has left now is Super Mario RPG, otherwise it could also be a third-party title.

Was bored so I changed the setup of my desk and added stuff to my crystal desk:

Also forgot to say the other day, but apparently I am going to travel with my father's family to Tenerife (our neighbour island) as part of my uncle's birthday sometime this summer, so that's cool.

There are cool natural places there such as El Teide (the highest volcano in not just the islands but even Spain), so I'll make sure to take cool photos.

Part of me wants to say a major factor in MK doing a 2nd reset in its timeline is because they realized having Sindel bodybag 80% of the heroes was a bad move in MK9, cause so much of MKX and MK11 is about un-doing the revenant thing. Other than that, I could probably blame them being bought out by the guys who also own DC Comics and they caught the reboot bug from them, lmao. I still think the OG timeline had the best narrative, but gameplay wise MK9 and MKX were my favorites, though I'll always have a soft spot for UMK3 and MK Deception.

Basically, I hope they have MK12 not write themselves into a corner all over again all too quickly. They're taking these characters in somewhat new directions, so that in and of itself could be pretty cool. The idea that Liu Kang is trying to make a more idealized world is neat, but bro's probably gonna be pissed when it goes south anyway.

I think my brain is always going to default to the way the characters were portrayed in MK1-3 and MK9 (because both timelines use basically the same framework as a base) when I think of these characters in their ideal states. The new era feels like something they’re going to stick with for a while and then in like a decade or two we’re going to get a “nostalgia reboot” that reverts back to that original status quo. Idk, just… changing it this much just doesn’t feel sustainable in terms of having a brand identity.

Kraven looks like it could be a decent action film.

It does not look like it’s gonna be a great Kraven or Spider-man spinoff movie though.

Which sucks because if they did those ties right, it would Probably fair pretty alright. They should embrace the multiverse and start throwing spider-man variants into these films.

But we keep the villain perspective. Let’s see how they came to be and what makes them who they are. Given us solid enough reasons to sympathize. If this was based on the Kraven’s last hunt, it would have been perfect tbh.

If Super Mario RPG: Legends of the Seven Stars gets a remake, I can see it be in an HD-2D style that Square-Enix loves to do for the past few years.

I'd think it'd look weird with pre-rendered sprites, but they could do it for Culex's battle.
