Hello, I recently got back into Smash for the past few months. There is no one in my area that plays, except for my brother, but he doesn't play Brawl competitively. Therefore, I wind up playing on Wi-Fi against random strangers with terrible lag for the most part. I want to get better with my character, but I feel as though I've reached my plateau and can't seem to get any higher.

Even though I've watched several of the Pit videos, I feel like when I'm playing, there's something not right about the way I play Pit. Right now, I don't feel comfortable entering Pit into a offline tournament until I get the feel of Pit's moves and his potential to be a good character.

The character that I want to get better with is Pit and I was wondering Esca if you can mentor me on getting better with Pit?

I think this should also be posted in the Brawl Tactical Board in order to help as many people who want it as possible.

Jungle, you should update the OP with a link to the PokeCenter's own tutoring program. You'll find my direct link a couple posts back.

The current round of tutoring has already started, but just in case. :3

I still main Diddy! People still comment on how I'm one of the original Diddy players :) It's just that I want to get better with Pit, so I can use him as a backup incase my opponent takes me to a counter pick stage like Norfair or Rainbow Cruise.

I just PMed you my Friend code.

Hey guys. So, I took a little break from SWF. I was just involved in way too many things at once. Between this, other Information Center Threads, being active in the Debate Hall, being active in the Hip Hop thread, WWYP, and another creative minds writing contest, I was spending waaaaaaay to much time online. Specifically, the fact that we were sending out "reminder PMs" to mentoring groups almost every day got to be a real hassle. Ultimately, it was causing problems with me finishing my schoolwork. So I forced myself to take a while off. Regardless, I should have announced this publicly, so I apologize for not giving advance notice to the mentors and pupils here. We all make mistakes, so hopefully I'll learn from this one.

I'm going to take back responsibility here and I'll try and work some things out with my shadow council colleague, Junglefever. I have some great ideas for this program; hopefully we'll be able to get it more public recognition. Most importantly, we'll work out a system that makes sure mentorships are getting done but doesn't require an excessive amount of work. We want this to be a really effective and helpful system for all members of SWF. There should be good things in the future of the mentoring thread.

Ok, Junglefever and I have made some changes in the rules. We're now making it the pupil's responsibility to maintain contact with the mentor. We used to send out "reminder PMs" to make sure the mentorships were actually happening, but we no longer believe these to be necessary. We believe that since the pupil is the one who wants to learn, they should be responsible for keeping contact with the mentor. If a mentor is unresponsive, the pupil should contact Junglefever and I about this concern. On the other side, if a pupil is unreasonable or a mentor feels overworked, the mentor should contact us with the problem. Ultimately, Junglefever and I will have the final say in the resolution of these conflicts.

As always, we appreciate feedback. Tell us about your experiences with the program! We don't care whether it's positive, mixed, or negative, as long as you're respectful.

We will be maintaining a list of mentorships (not displayed publicly for privacy reasons), so please post when you've started or ended a mentorship.

Mentors, keep wearing those banners! Pupils, too! We'd like to have lots more activity here. If you want the banner (similar to the one in my signature), just ask me for the code. We'd love other suggestions on how to raise activity.

That's all for now. :)

Um... not sure. I guess so as long as it advertises the club and doesn't make us look bad (don't get sig violations for it). But let me talk it over with Jungle first.

I will tutor Snakes and Metaknights. I don't use Marth anymore. I sent in an application months ago to switch.

Marth and Falco I can still help just as well with, but they're not my mains anymore.

Yeah, sorry, that was like right after I took a break from SWF for a while. I'll review it, but since you've already been accepted as a mentor, you should be able to do the switch.

EDIT: I skimmed over it briefly and everything looks ok, so I switched it for you. Sorry for the wait. :)

Ok, let us know if you still don't have a response in a couple of days. We'll generally give a mentor a few days to respond, but after that, we'll contact them and ask why they're not responding.

Hey, I'm one of the Kirby mentors, so anyone that wants to learn Kirby, message us~!!!

Btw, to whom it may concern (probably KG or Jungle),

Kewkky is leaving to boot camp soon, and I'm busy a lot lately, so I'm recommending Kappy as another Kirby mentor. He's a good Kirby (easily top 10, probably 5th or 6th though) and he's willing to help Kirbies learn. Juss sayin'.

Ok, we've added Kappy. I've also shortened the OP a bit so hopefully it takes everyone less time to get through the instructions.

Just making sure everyone is aware that anyone can use the mentoring program banner. I've added this clause to the OP. You do not have to be a mentor or even a pupil to use the banner. We're happy to have anyone advertise our program, as long as the banner is used appropriately. Please don't turn on your signature if you're in a thread that it's supposed to be disabled in.

If you'd like to do your own design, you must submit your design to me for approval. If you're doing a custom design, it must clearly advertise the mentoring program and should abide by all SWF rules.

If a new mentoring sig is released, please post it here. The one we have right now is decent but i think it could be better.

Yeah, we had a Mentoring Program Banner Contest in the artwork emporium, and there was only one submission. :glare:

So yeah, by all means, if you think you can improve it, you could be the designer of the new standard mentoring program banner! :)

Not final product:

This is what I made so far and captures my basic idea. I'm not exactly the most creative person, so if anyone has some suggestions i'd consider them.

edit- and the picture quality (looks sorta like cell shading) is from my photoshop save, woops. Final product would have true game colors

Not bad :)

I am not strong in the creative field either, but some suggestions I have would be:

* Try to make the characters alternate faster, more like flashes of the characters instead of displaying them for a brief couple seconds.
*Input more characters, 3 I feel isn't enough, try to aim for 7-10. The flashings of the characters will have a nice effect with more characters displayed.
*Instead of displaying the characters from left to right, try to mix it up a little by bouncing from left to right. Such as first quarter to third, to second, to fourth. Etc.
*I personally feel as if the Poke Ball doesn't belong with the display of characters. Maybe try to add it in to the "SWF Mentoring Program" you have at the end, like have "We help with Pokemon too!" with the Poke ball.
*For the background, unless you have something else planned, try to input a familiar stage background. Stages such as Final Destination or Eldin Bridge.
*I personally like the quote on the current banner, "A mentor has not done their job, until their pupil is the master." Maybe you can add that underneath the "SWF Mentoring Program"
