I'm hoping to get past the budding stage with her myself. Sounds like your double Samus team is about as well known as my friend and I's Samus & Pika team in GR lol.

Its not known of outside of smashfests cause we aren't silly enough to do that when pika/mk is infinitely better. If we ever go to an mk banned tourney we will double samus and take names

This potentially a stupid question but, was KillerJawz the only Samus mentor or is there someone else I could possibly ask? I checked the mentoring boards and asked if it had been updated but I didn't get a reply.

Edit: I'll take that as a no.

Ah I see. Oh well, it was worth a shot asking. I'll just ask then.

Is there anyone who's interested in taking on a Samus pupil? I'm familiar with basic techniques like missile canceling and her ledge game but I would like a more hands on approach to getting critiques and learning the character better.

the main problem with samus is her lack of kill moves, her slowness that gets her beaten by strong aggression, the general weakness of her moves to powershielding, and her lack of kill moves.

if you can get past these barriers, samus will be more effective. if not, you will have to work at it! or change characters.

It takes practice and as delex said, samus can be slow but more effective.

That's how I feel when I play a heavy-like character.

I've become aware of Samus's weaknesses of awful killing, slow & clunky movement, and horrid ground game since I started learning her a few months ago, but I still love and want to improve using her since Samus players are so rare.

My main problem is finding ways to get out of heavy aggression and creating good mixups/defensive options to slow down aggressive approaches since I mostly play people who main the likes of Kirby, Zero Suit, & Toon Link, all of whom can get into Samus's face without a ton of difficulty.

it's a baller anti air though. if you're close enough to jab ground-to-ground, i feel like you're doing something wrong.

Nah, turns out by "decent" I meant decent.

The point is, her ground game isn't an issue, and especially not as much as her lack of kill moves and her stupid clunky dumb jump movement **** buh

Well aside from a question any game designer would ask about how not giving a character effectively tested kill moves is good; her overall clunkiness does give her mobility problems despite having good air speed preventing her from being a "graceful" character. I do find her clunkiness handy though for lining up my projectile pressure and planning my next move for landing from a Zair.

I'm more confused that they didn't bother testing to make sure people's jabs acutally linked to the next part..

I don't think brawl was play tested with practice games.

That honestly doesn't surprise me, considering there are quite a few hacks of brawl to rectify all the gameplay problems in all the characters. I've seen some programmers at my college make a more well tested fighting game where each of the characters' moves didn't fall on the sliding scale of great or completely dysfunctional. I still like playing brawl but some of the gameplay issues are just flat out egregious in terms of game design.

Can someone explain to me what Dedede can do to approach Samus.

Is there a bad angle I can abuse?
Is there a certain spacing at which I can punish a shield Zair?
Is there a place where Samus' light missiles don't reach very well?

Just anything that would help me understand how to approach her.

Many of Samus's moves can be shielded easily. This is a common approach tactic I've gotten from DDDs. Waddle Dees & Doos shield against her projectiles and Zair quite well also. Samus's biggest blind spot would have to be under her and she is at her most vulnerable while descending if you can exploit it. I don't know of any specific ways to shield punish a Zair, I haven't faced a DDD in a while. The movement of her homing missiles is not amazing since they seek on gentle curves and sharp movements or just getting over them will shake them off.

However despite these problems for her, defensively, Samus is good at setting up a wall (or at least I am) and using her projectiles to keep her spacing and keep opponent's out (unless you're a character like Marth :grrr:). Unfortunately though DDD is still an atrocious MU for her and any mistakes we make cost us dearly, even without the infinite CG.

Hope that helps.

powershield spam and get in, lots of powershielding and safe moves from above. you can be kind of risky as it's not like she's going to be killing you any time soon.
ftilt like composerdude said, falling bair is hard to punish as it will go straight through both of samus's missiles and trade with almost everything. Be careful at >150 though because I think samus should be trying to trade her up tilt with your approaches because that WILL kill. falling bair + top of up tilt - trade.
