I can't understand how people listening to something you don't personally like is heartbreaking lol

people need to stop caring about others interests so much

I agree for the most part, but what does bug me are the kids who hop around like they're so hardcore because they listen to slipknot, and proclaim how metal they are. Hyperbole aside, musical ignorance just kinda gets under my skin in general. I think mocking those bands helps a bit, since it's really more about mocking the people that listen to it lol.
For me at least.
I actually have some respect for nu metal bands because they were my gateway to metal

That bugs me too lol

"I'm so hardcore, I listen to Red Jumpsuit Apparatus and the singer screamed once hurrdurr"

I tend to facepalm at those times

Trust me, I grew up liking Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, and Judas Priest. All the self-proclaimed "hardcore" stereotypical Limp Bizkit and Slipknot fans thought Black Sabbath was "gay" (their words, not mine). Weird goth kids are weird, as well as stupid.

Plus I hate how loud everyone blasts their music these days! Dang it, I'm the one listening to fast, violent music, not you! I keep my music quiet enough whether in my car or on the go so no one else can hear it (unless there is construction and it is really hurting my ears or something like that).

Last week some guy was blasting rap music from his car while sitting outside his car behind me house! Did I mention that the area behind my house is a GRAVEYARD=???

Or two weeks ago I was studying at my college's library and some kid starting blasting some seriously emo/depressing music. IT'S A LIBRARY! I want to learn, study, and do work, not listen to your terrible music because you are depressed you have nothing going for you because you aren't willing to live life man!

Geesh people have no decency these days! Everybody's cutting somebody off in order to get to nowhere to do nothing as quick as they can.

That's an awesome site. I've found it before. Great stuff on there.

Might as well post some of my favorite metal tunes.

Serenity - Engraved Within
Kalmah - Evil In You
Rotting Christ - Keravnos Kyvernitos
Blood Stain Child - Embrace Me
Folkearth - Naglfar Sets Sail
Prong - Snap Your Fingers, Snap Your Neck
Satyrian - The Dark Gift
Volbeat - 7 Shots
Dokken - Lightning Strikes Again
Manowar - Dawn of Battle

The following technically isn't very metal since it's acoustic, but too awesome to not post:
Eluveitie - Memento

Okay, first of all, Veil of Maya's new album if ****ing godly. I love it so much. You'll probably only enjoy it if you like Veil of Maya. Here is one of the songs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FBazfB4oaGE

The third track is called punisher, I can't link it but you guys should go buy it on iTunes or something. The sickest thing happens. They play the sound clip from this video and turn it into a breakdown http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yHmKcpxAVDg#t=1m11s

Really not feeling new VOM except that song with the kid making fun of djent turned into a breakdown. that's pretty genius.

I didn't like [id] either. I think I'm gonna have to say that I'm really only a big fan of Common Man's Collapse. Why don't they have any songs that are as good as It's Not Safe... or We Bow In Its Aura?

I was actually surprised at how much I enjoyed the new Veil Of Maya actually. The first half of the album was boring to sit through but Numerical Schemes, Vicious Circles, and With Passion And Power are all pretty good songs. So I decided to impulse buy [id], not knowing what I was getting into. Fairly disappointed, but I'll check out a few more Veil Of Maya albums when I get the time.

I might need to listen to Eclipse more but for now I don't like it. The songs all sound horribly structured compared to the stuff on Common Man's Collapse.

It's definitely true to some extent but i'm shallow enough that I can get high on all the breakdowns and knowing how hard it would be to play that together.

Going to see Whitechapel at a little place downtown near here.
I have been waiting so long for a band that I like to come anywhere near here.

Wretched you have the best avatar/user title combo ever.

I'm assuming you're trolling Krynxe with that avy?

In other news, I've found myself listening to more Insominum, Swallow the Sun, and Edge of Sanity/Dan Swano. Life is good.

I've been on the fence with Swallow the Sun for a while now. Some riffs really do it for me, sometimes they let me down

that cover art does it for me so hard. I will check it out the rest very soon

speaking of technical death, I think Psycroptic's The Inherited Repression is also a contender for best album (at least for me so far). Damn, there's also Meshuggah, Gojira, Baroness, Gorod, Pelican, High On Fire... Haha, wow, it's gonna be a good year for me and metal :)

This, but add to that list Diablo Swing Orchestra, Ephel Duath, Grand Magus, Ahab, Akphaezya, Electric Wizard, Borknagar, Ufomammut, Ihsahn, Anathema, Be'lakor, Paradise Lost, Saint Vitus, Anaal Nathrakh, Eths, Cult of Luna, Haggard, Therion, and Sigh. This really is a stupidly good year for metal.

Betting on Akphaezya having album of the year since their debut is one of the greatest things in all of metal history and this has taken 4 years to come out. Though the single off the new album seems less insane than the stuff from the first album, so hopefully they don't scale back too much and some of the other songs will be as inspired as Anthology II was. If not, Therion is always a safe bet. I love me some Therion.

Whoa, there was a new Diablo Swing Orchestra?

their gimmick gets old quick for me but it's always worth at least one listen-through.

Necrophagist and The Faceless are also coming out with albums this year i believe.

It's not out yet. It's supposed to be out some time in April which ultimately means it'll come out some time in September or something. The industry is weird like that.

I don't know how many people like doom metal on Smashboards but I certainly do.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=edCLTErF9rI - 40 Watt Sun (this is actually from my favorite metal album of 2011 so listen to it now)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zwint7ajP98 - Suma
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xP_9mTfXA38 - Belzebong
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=drzzGClaEKU - Bongripper
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LaRftkRhHP4 - Tefra
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=krxQo_Zy64o- The Lamp Of Thoth
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sFHL76lIo7k- Warning

Super big edit. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vPRCwn-e0yw new Sigh album comes out Tuesday. Just listen to this. Some sort of schizophrenic avant garde psychedelic jazzy black metal nonsense with a hint of Frank Zappa.

[insert someone saying how absolutely boring playing at like 2 BPM is]

I can see it with that song in particular. Trophy Scars is an awesome band, but Sigh is so much more diverse.

To me, these bands are all infinitely more interesting than Sunn O))) even if they technically occupy the same subgenre (except maybe 40 Watt Sun. that song was terrible tbh). Sunn O))) doesn't suck just because they play slow. They suck for other reasons as well :p

I like some doom and stoner metal. I've just recently warmed up to it as I was never a big fan of it before.

I always bring this band up but they are my favorite new doom metal act and I'm beyond excited for their new album Witch Mountain. It's very throwback Sabbath-esque stoner style with vocals that remind me of Jefferson Airplane.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kSEjsTLFJKA

also i'm not really sure if this band is actually any form of doom metal...or what the heck they really are supposed to labelled. it's ****ing crushing whatever it is though- Admiral Angry

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yjg_dLEZb7w

Battle of Mice is a little more post-metal then doom I guess, but the slower tempo is a big part of what makes their A Day of Nights album so heavy and angry sounding
