Hybrid Theory was a good album when it was released, I would probably still listen to it now, to be honest. Everything LP did since that album has been ****, though.

We all agreed earlier in the thread that Linkin Park is partially responsible for all of our introductions to metal.

What are your biggest exceptions to metal music? As in do you like a band or artist and not just a song who one would not think a metal fan would like? (If you listen to anything then I guess this isn't for you.)

Mine would probably be Avril Lavigne and LIGHTS. I do like Redman aswell.

I'm interested in what yours are

It's funny that you ask.

There will be days that i listen to only metal and don't wanna hear anything else, at all.
But i have many MANY guilty pleasures.... mine are:

Avril.
--Vanessa Carlton // Norah Jones // Birthday MAssacre -- All used for sleeping. I recommend the massacre.
--Skrillex // Flux Pavilion
--Paramore
--Girl singers in general
--Sleigh bells
--ICP
--Lonely Island
--Kesha, Old Gaga and KAty Perry. Bring the hate

Did i already ask what you guys thought of the new LoG CD?

Lots of J-pop/K-pop/anime music. And techno, (some) dubstep, and trance. Outside of those, I only listen to metal.

I don't like to call it guilty pleasures, though. If you like it, listen to it, no matter what it is. If someone calls you out for it, rise above his stupidity and don't let that nobody decide what you can and can't listen to.

I don't consider mine a guilty pleasure, I really like all the music I listen to. Now would I show my metalhead friends J-pop? Hell no. Only because I know they wouldn't like it.

I have a bit of an eclectic taste. This last month has been mostly me listening to Backstreet Boys and Lil B. There are only a handful of active metal bands that really excite me nowadays, and I spend a lot more time with other music recently.

Yeah I've never actually listened to metal exclusively. I love electronic and ambient stuff, as well as classical, folk, indy, and genre beginning in post-
I avoid hip hop like the plague though. Unless it's gorillaz

lol, isn't that even too optimistic a term?
Probably. That's what they said 5 years ago or however long it has been now. I just like to think there's always a chance, haha.
They're touring again. Sorry for the ****ty citation, but it works. http://www.ticketdirect.co.nz/Event/Details/48792

Also I listen to a lot of dubstep. If you guys haven't heard of/checked out Borgore you should. He's the metal version of dubstep. Here's his 'heaviest' song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hVxnxyge5i4 Also I bought an album off of iTunes from Monstercat Media, it's pretty sick.

For me it'd be Melody Gardot, Ingrid Michaelson... Atmosphere, The Roots... yeah I guess those would surprise a metal fan :/

but admittedly 75% of my music I'd consider rock in some way or another

Yeah, for me it's not really a guilty pleasure either since I still play some of it anyway. It's usually anything rock-ish that was on Fuse back when they were good (Alkaline Trio, Armor For Sleep, From Autumn To Ashes, Chevelle, Underoath, Taking Back Sunday, Thursday, etc.) along with a decent amount of random nonsense (Busdriver, Straylight Run, Everclear, Sinead O'Connor, The Cranberries, Heart, Rush, Journey, etc.)

I was sitting in class today and a kid sits next to me. He is wearing a slipknot Tshirt and I spark a conversation. He says he likes metal. I ask him what kind of metal, and he says Deathcore. Then he says Metallica, Slipknot, and Five Finger Death Punch are his favorite Deathcore bands because they're satanic.

I hit him.

I know it's tempting to do so but you should've enlightened him so that we can have less ****** comments on youtube

Mr. Spiegel (guitar) is a very good friend of mine and is writing the guitar and bass parts for this band on their new material.
I'm sure that most people who see a shamelessly promotional post for a local band they know probably just make a jerking off motion and move on. And that might be reasonable lol, but how can I not want to help out

I think I found... The band that I was looking for.
This song's awesome hahaha. 2:22 with that slow building up speed, creamjeans

had the first real Contacting Nebulas recording session this weekend. went incredibly swimmingly and I'm so happy with how the songs turned out in their basic rough unfinished form. Recorded at Villain Studios which is set up and run by the guitarist Alex from Quarter the Villain. Great guys and very easy to work with. Was flattering to have him compliment my guitar playing because I think he's a super awesome player, much better than I am.

and now I'm finally really confident in saying that you should be excited for Nebula's EP that should be out in March!! sci-fi themed prog death metal spastic thrash.

Nope. I got into metal when my brother got the game Brutal Legend for Christmas and while playing it, began adding songs from the game's soundtrack to his iPod. The metal artists that got me into metal were actually stuff like Dimmu Borgir and Judas Priest. I had heard of Linkin Park before, but never thought of them as metal and never delved into their music much.

I realize I just posted last page so I wasn't exactly "early" in this thread. :p

I listen to a lot - I'm interested in metal right now because I'm loving the diversity, but I have jazz, classic rock, some pop, techno, film and game score, etc. Heck, the oddest stuff I have is background production music from cartoons like Spongebob and Ren & Stimpy.

Did i already tell you guys i'm bringing back my youtube account of guitar covers? I do mostly metal stuff.

I just did a Silent Hill 2 song though, that makes it... kinda metal... right?

SH is my favorite videogame music ever.

but, you should probably work on that a bit. the rhythm guitar is consistently off tempo in the beginning and overall it's a bit of a jumble. It's hard to tell from the video quality but it sounds like you got a good tone going for the lead/atmospheric parts. Keep it up! do more SH music! do Promise or Theme of Laura!

everyone should post more. I like how more people have come here. if you are reading this, don't just lurk! post some metal or hardcore or noise music!

anyway:

holy ****, how did I not hear about this EP years ago.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T3ez-DpwiqM

(track from Dillinger and Mike Patton's "Irony is a Dead Scene" EP)

It seems like Mike Patton can do absolutely anything with his vocal cords.

Thanks for the feedback.

I'll try to tighten it up a bit!

Any suggestions for a new video?
Something fast paced.
Do you mean fast paced in comparison to your last video? or fast paced metal?

if you want a real challenge, though a rewarding one, try some Protest the Hero!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iaFY01h0Pn0

something not as hard but also fast paced!! Darkest Hour!! (for the most part, these solos are a little tricky, especially the little sweeping lick at 1:48)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mRZt-VsN8xY

that opening riff of the DH track is one of my all time favorites btw
