If there's anything I'm good at on guitar, its sweeping and faced paced shredding like protest.

Do you know what tuning they play in?

the multi string tapping parts in that song are a nightmare for me but the way their songs are put together is just so fun so i tend to play the rhythm section when I play their music :p .

contacting nebulas studio teaser thing with drummer and the other guitarist!!!

Doesn't sound bad so far! I think your drummer could be a bit tighter with his blasts though, he seems a bit out of it with them. That and the lack of tom usage for that 2nd riff seems to be bothering me a bit. Guitars are sounding pretty awesome, though!

On another note, Darkest Hour is way too much fun to learn, the drums are so nicely done considering how small the kit being used is, and Kris Norris is an absolute beast on guitar, it's a shame he left for Straight Line Stitch :(.

Thanks for the feeback! Our drummer makes some weird pattern decisions in terms of how he accents things. The places he chooses to put blast beats in are really strange to me and I think that's part of why he tends to drag a bit in those sections.

oh yeah, our EP release show is set now, we're playing at the end of March with mother****ing WHITE ARMS OF ATHENA!!!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yddNRxX4vHY

yeah and some other bands too. Night at the Chalet, Playing For Keeps and Labyrinthe.

@ Darkest Hour: Kris Norris and the drummer basically made that band for me. IT sucks that they are both gone now.

SOAD and Rammstein (old Rammstein, not their new crap) lead me into Dimmu Borgir, Bodom, and Cradle of Filth, all of which I don't listen to anymore. They all got old to me, even after seeing Dimmu live twice. Now I mainly listen to Opeth, Abigail Williams, Swallow the Sun, Daylight Dies, and a few other bands.

And that's my metal history.

wait, Dimmu Borgir was a gateway for you?
I mean I like them, but black metal took me a while to swallow. huh
Not the whole band. Specifically this song from Brutal Legend was one of the songs that introduced me to the full metal scene.

I like the more melodic forms of black metal - stuff like Rotting Christ or the symphonic group Tvangeste. I usually can't get into less melodic black metal though - just sounds like endless guitar shredding and incomprehensible vocals. (It's ironic I like some black metal in the first place since I'm Christian.)

Actually, now that I think of it, I did listen to Disturbed before I listened to the Brutal Legend music, but that was it.

Linkin Park, Shadows Fall, and SOAD were the first heavier bands I had gotten into, but actually it was bands like Underoath (still my fav), Silverstein, Senses Fail, and Thursday that got me into screaming in songs. Silverstein's one CD had a DVD of music vids from their label, which led me to Darkest Hour, Sinai Beach, and BTBAM, who took me a long time to get used to because I was young and couldn't comprehend the speed of Mordecai's first couple riffs XD. Once Darkest Hour released "Deliver Us" and Underoath had taken a turn back to a heavier metalcore-ish sound with "Define The Great Line", that was about the time I started learning to drum and to scream. From there, I utilized MySpace to search for more heavy music (which was the only thing I used it for at all XD), and found more progressive bands, like Sky Eats Airplane, Periphery, and Circle Takes The Square, along with drifting back into less heavy bands like Alexisonfire and Dead Poetic.

Right now I'm looking at metal with exotic cultural influences, mostly folk metal and some types of progressive metal. Stuff like Folkearth and Myrath.

I was late to join the music scene in any case anyways. It was when I got an iPod in Christmas 2008 that I began learning about music. Before then, I didn't even know who AC/DC or Linkin Park were (to the confusion of my friends).

Siege, Napalm Death, and Carcass were probably the first metal bands I really got into. Coming from a punk background really warps your opinion on some of the more traditional metal sounds until you actually dig into it.

i wish i had a decent camera. I've been wanting to cover Legion of the Serpent for a few days now.
What do you play? The guitar in that song is retardedly catchy.

as for songs I'm learning/covering, right now I'm melting my brain simply trying to transcribe this *****

http://youtu.be/TUa0iPqW97I

the riff that starts at 1:05.......fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

I mean, it's not super hard to play but god damn it's just so friggin awesome and creative. I would kill to be able to write that.

I like when bands use extreme lyrics. May it be hate towards women or religion, it's nothing I take litirally, instead I see it as a way of expressing ones freedom

That's why I love Thy Art is Murder's lyrics

Labryinthe getting called horrible in a thread where a bunch of generic metalcore bands get praise. You guys are ridiculous.

As far as music goes, they're really not that bad. The lyrics are dumb, but if I decided to dislike a band based exclusively on lyrics I'd hate pretty much every metal band ever.

HORSE the Band has the best lyricist in metal/hardcore

not joking either.

and no, sorry, Labyrinthe is terrible. I'm shocked The Ben is defending them because they are not far removed from breakdown-centric deathcore bands that he is constantly whining about. They're like a ****ty Wretched, except Labyrinthe only uses the bottom two strings of their guitars.

I mean come on, that "SIX...SIX....SIX" breakdown doesn't make you want to disavow all metal and metalcore by proxy? I LIKE breakdowns and even I think that is terrible because it's so uncreative.

Night at the Chalet is pretty decent though, as far as that scene deathcore thing goes

I mean, I agree with you, some songs I like have dumb lyrics, but when the lyrics are hilariously bad calling, like Jesus a ****** and stuff, that's where I draw the line.

I guess I get to dig my own hole further. Labryinthe may not be that far removed from breakdown centric deathcore, but they're more deathy than a lot of the bands and I can actually appreciate the clarity of the production.

As far as less being more, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1VDGDsvEnDs this pretty much sums up how I feel about having more of less. This owns so hard and they're barely doing anything.

Jeez louise this is boring. I like ambient music and some drone, but this is just not doing it for me. I love how they all get dressed up in gothic hoods and play this **** live. so death

here is something that isn't played at 2 BPM and has instruments playing notes and rhythms

I don't like TDWP for so many reasons and it breaks my heart when I see kids at school wearing the shirts.

I hate it when kids at my school wear Black Veil Brides shirts.

After that, I can't take anything they say about metal seriously.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SmdGcTQ6pkY wouldn't be the split they did with Boris would it?

Some more Boris while I'm at it since they're such a lovely diverse band. Last year they had 3 albums. Heavy Rocks
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K5BSO5zBvSk
a shoegazey rock album called Attention Please. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LwSznsNgSOQ
and...this thing.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G_NPPknoVqY

Prior to that they've released mostly metal albums of the stoner variety.
