Oh stop it.
I'm only mediocre.
Oh, the band? Yeah. They just released a new album.
produced by Jamie King, hells yeah.

and new vocalist :|. that could go either way. i like the sound on their new single but I thought the old vocalist really stood out amongst most deathcore vocalists

that album isn't out until the 27th or something though.

Speaking of Wretched, I saw them live last night in New Orleans. They were opening for the Metal Alliance tour (incredibly ****ty tour besides Wretched and The Faceless) and they blew me away. After the show I got to hang out with the guitarist, bassist, and singer. The most down to earth people I've ever met, really cool dudes

I purposefully skipped over some of the more obvious choices like Mirrorthrone and Unexpect since I'm assuming if you're looking for this sort of stuff you would've already found those. If not, go listen to those bands too.

my band uploaded a song called "Meteor Swarm" from our EP today! check it out!!

to be honest, I am not entirely happy with my guitarwork on this song. It is quite tricky and the song was somewhat new at the time of recording...but, I'm really digging the raw sound of it all. Feels pretty organic to me. I vastly prefer that over the over-digitalized produced sound of axefx/djent tones. anyways, let me know what y'all think!

REVIEW TIME!!! :D

First thing I thought of when the song started was Born of Osiris with that intro XD.

VOCALS: Not much noticeable variation in his screams except for the occasional low, gets a bit old, which is why I'm glad the song is as short as it is. In regards to lyrics, I've always found that less is more with songs like this, it seems like a lot of the first few verses are pushed out too quickly, he seems to lose flow for a little bit.

GUITARS: I see what you mean with the raw sound, it does work very nicely. Love the riffs and the overall guitar's flow. As far as tone itself, I feel the low is turned up a tad too much in the mix, doesn't exactly let the more melodic and intricate higher stuff shine like it should.

BASS: Does its job very well, and is well presented in the mix. Not overly technical, but still matches the guitars nicely.

DRUMS: Either turn up the snare mic or turn down the guitars in the mix, because I have a hard time hearing the snare in it. Overall, the drums are nicely done as well, except for that one chugging part at 1:53, though I understand the drums were supposed to be out of rhythm, the rhythm chosen isn't very pleasing to the ear in comparison to the chugs, they just seem to be fighting each other for which you should be focusing on instead of what should be happening, meshing despite difference in pattern. Other than that, some more variety in the fills possibly, but other than that, not bad!

OTHER: I RARELY say this in regards to reviewing music, but I'm gonna go ahead and say it, it's missing some synth. *punches self in face* sorry about that. I just feel like some angelic chords kept lower in the mix would be great ambience in some parts, especially during that riff at around 0:26, it would accent the guitars very nicely. It doesn't need to be anything too technical, just something to help accent in the higher ranges while the riff is going.

OVERALL: Seems to be a pretty nice debut song, I got a good feeling about you guys, there's loads of potential here. 6.5/10 Keep up the good work!

I actually really dig the guitar tone, it's crunchy and extremely wet sounding without sounding over processed. The bass is guitar seems a little low in the mix, the drums fit right, and the vocals are on par but nothing great. All around I think the mix is fine.

The song itself could use some restructuring. The riffs for the most part flow really well, but the asynchronous drum patterns feel like they're trying to be too technical. The part the melon pointed out stands out in particular.

I'd give it like a 5/10, it's not bad but probably not something I'd go out of my way to listen to again.

I'm a fan as well, though I was very impressed by New Junk Aesthetic, loved the guitar sound and what the singer was doing, but Ex Lives seems really legit. They're coming to Penn State on the 19th too, finally a heavy concert here, can't wait! :D

Played my first ever show tonight at Atlantic Sounds (which is an amazing independent record store) in my home city Daytona Beach! Everything went much much better than I ever imagined or expected. Sold 40+ EP CDs and generally played a really good set with an amazing crowd

Met a ****load of cool people and good bands.

Eight Million Kami was the first band of the night, and imo the best one by far. This was their first show as well and I was blown away. They are not metal though. They are effects-oriented math...rock/core....or something. It's not easy to describe. It's like Tera Melos mixed with Melt Banana. This guitarist blew my mind and had me completely terrified of not being able to follow something like that. I'm a very FX-oriented guitarist as well and this guy's technique was pitch-perfect and a billion times more complex than anything I'd ever thought of.

Then Ceruleus played. They are an awesome, Mythology-oriented djent/deathcore group. Not really my thing, but they are very good and professional at what they do. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Etf3mP2zEU

I was pretty nervous at this point so i left their set halfway through to start warming up because we played after that. I wasn't expecting as much of a turnout as there was, and I wasn't expecting anyone to be dancing but everyone seemed to really dig it. and people were getting knocked down and **** which to me means a good show! I also just had fun playing music.

we were all opening up for Blunt Trauma http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MsOnB-OC1p4 fun heavy bouncy ****. I liked this band except the vocalists who were just okay. the crowd was nuts. daytona kids always bring a good time, but there are never any metal shows here.

and Labyrinthe, who I gave my opinion on earlier...but man, their live show kicked ***. I had to buy a shirt and a CD just out of appreciation for that. Who knows, maybe I'll give their recorded stuff another chance.

then finally Night at the Chalet. The place seemed nearly empty when they were tuning up, literally only two people in the back room of the store including me. I felt so bad, but then a small but enthusiastic crowd piled in once they started and their set turned out to be super fun. This is another band I'm not crazy about, but really good players and great stage presence. Also very nice and humble dudes. We're playing with them tomorrow night somewhere in Satellite Beach!

We might get on a bill with Abiotic! Abiotic is cool! I'm pretty stoked about life right now.

Good **** Luigi. I played a show once but it was small and ****ty. Your band has potential you guys just need to write some more and then get high quality recordings!

You are the only person I've talked to that has expressed that opinion, Wretched. Most people said that the vocals were the highlight of our song. My problem with his vocals on that song is that there's just...too much of them, and not enough variation. He was trying to do a Darkest Hour type vocal approach, but with dozens of different layers and overdubs. It makes the song a bit cluttered imo.

I'm not crazy with the sound of the vocals on our EP recording, but his voice riiiiips and he projects like a mother****er. There are times at practice where he will lose the mic or turn it off and I can still hear him over all the other instruments. I think it's just the way the EP was recorded. The guy who recorded us isn't very big on working with harsh vocals. In general, I am a thousand times happier with how we sounded live than on the EP but I still think everyone did good on the EP.

http://www.myspace.com/malakfl here's the vocalists' old band.

There.
I don't like it when someone sounds the same. He has the range to be playing with his voice A LOT MORE.

I can hear darkest hour in him.

I may not be able to say I'm a fan of it, but I can't say he's a bad vocalist

Luigi, youre in fl? Nice.
Yepp! The music scene here is getting pretty substantial and awesome. I am proud to be associated with lots of the bands around here like Abiotic, Von Wolfe, Playing For Keeps, SML8, Cave Moth, Ash Ketchum, Ceruleus, etc.

not to mention that Florida kids have the best time at shows and throw down crazy every time.

also, holy **** I can't believe I forgot about this album:

http://youtu.be/WafBhjec92w 7 Angels 7 Plagues "Jhazmyne's Lullaby"

I miss this stuff...I think it's just making me nostalgic for when I first got into heavy music...but man, it's still really good.

Day Will Tell is cool. It would be cool to get on a bill with them, but I think they are more firmly rooted in post-hardcore and regular alternative rock. It's possible, but I think we are more likely to be playing most shows with heavier bands for a while.

but then again, we were going to be opening for White Arms of Athena for the last two shows, and they aren't really that heavy at all

holy **** man, Abiotic is the business

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NYtfw7a0vs0

unbelievably stoked to play with these guys. they just got signed to Metal Blade, too!!! if anyone deserves it it's them.

now just time for Ascariasis to get signed then we'll be really talking

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MjGRQgewndc

also just finished the new Wretched album......

I like it. It's really different and parts of it are a little generic deathcore which is a little disappointing...but it's a really atmospheric album. The mood is dark as **** even though it's mostly not very heavy. The intro is beautiful and all the interludes are great. I think this is gonna grow on me.

My only problem is it doesn't sound that much like Wretched at all. I'm gonna miss the old sound but this is pretty cool too.
