Lol, it's nothing...

First impressions with Valkenhayn:

He's awesome... but ********. Fastest overhead in the game, bar none, with 236C, a ton of normals that are wolf-cancellable on hit or whiff, eats primers for breakfast, 6A works like a DP with autoguard, ridiculous range, safe and spammable specials, monsterous chip damage, and good supers. His low game isn't nearly as strong as his overheads, but thank goodness it's not. He seems to have trouble doing huge damage midscreen, like Makoto, but does the damage of Valhalla in the corner, also like Makoto.

My opinion will likely change with time, but he's looking like quite the beast.

Valkenhayn's biggest problem is that he's not Bang.

Most characters have this problem though.

Yeah, but that proves not to be that big of a problem, seeing as he is Valkenhayn, and that counteracts the whole "not Bang" thing pretty well.

Ophy's just hating on my wall of J.2A. strategy. Still working out the kinks, but so far, jump-ins are safer.

I don't know if it's because I'm playing CT or I'm on PC or I'm playing CT on PC or what, but I am sucking terribly at 6C > j.A > j.B > j.A > j.B > 236C. I can't really get the second jump part. So I just mash A and then throw out the Revolver Blast.

He has trouble getting in, so he won't have a chance against anyone that can zone effectively. He can't dash, so at least that limits his mobility. He's actually kind of like Hakumen in my mind.

The thing I hate about Valk's 6C is that it is +6 on block. And it doesn't look like an overhead. :glare:

Yeah, he's a little scary. His combos are kinda janky in terms of timing though. or so I've heard.

I don't know, when I played Valk I didn't really feel limited mobility wise, not when his air dash took me near full screen.

But that was back when he first came out and I don't really play him anymore. :/

So was CSII released yesterday?
The release date was 12/8 right?

I'm pretty sure that's next week, Rutger.

Yeah, Valkenhayn feels like a combination of Hazama, Hakumen, and Taokaka and he can easily be compared to Tekkaman in TvC. His combos have very wierd timing. I'm so used to the thought of, "Omg, better hurry with that next hit before they tech!" that I apparently didn't even know huge frame advantage existed.

lol, I found out you can wolf-cancel the 6C for another overhead, land, transform back, and do more stuff.

Valk does way too much damage. Other than that, he's a pretty solid character overall with strengths and weaknesses.

Fun fact, 236b normally - 700. 236b CH - around 8k. Not even a fatal.

I agree with the "too much damage" part.

His corner combos are ridiculous.

edit: Rutger, CSII comes out in six hours or so in Japan. :bee:

Fighting Valkenhayn was a nightmare for me. He looks like he's getting all nerfs for BBCSII, so that sucks for people that liked him.

Also can't wait for BBCSII so I can see more footage of it for Rachel (are there even any loketest vids of her?) and Platinum.

Don't really have good evidence to back this up but Valk might be the best in the game right now which is why he's only getting nerfs.

It's becoming more and more obvious that whenever CS2 comes out I'm going to have to challenge Minato to a Platinum battle.

Valkenhayn is not the best in the game, that's just absurd.

People (read: Xbox players) just haven't learned how to play against him yet because he's so new. If he were really better than Bang or Litchi, or even Hazama, he would already be dominating the tournament scene since he's been out on PS3 for like 2 months now.

Valkenhayn is about where Hakumen is in the tier list, maybe slightly higher, because they both function basically the same. They have good pokes and very damaging combos, but they have poor mobility and get zoned easily.

I don't think Valk has bad mobility, I saw a good one on 360 who has him on PS3 also. Got past a Hazama that, unlike quite a few online Hazamas, is not garbage. I don't think Valkenhayn's the best, but I wanna know if he is better than Hakumen, because he builds heat up INSANELY fast if he hits you, and his meterless comboes do about as much as Hakumen's 6 magatama consuming comboes. His pokes aren't as good, but his mix-up game is amazing enough to keep pressure on you for a long time. So far, I'd say he's a combination of a nerfed Litchi and (stronger?) Hakumen.

I also want to know if Hazama is better than Hakumen, because I am now hearing that Hakumen is above Hazama from some people. I doubt this is true, but I am not too sure.

Today, I learned that Omoikane (one of Mu's supers) is just weird.

It wins against and loses to things that I didn't think were possible.

Just so you know, Raz.

Omoikane beats Jayoku clean.

edit: I meant to post this earlier, regarding the Valk thing. I could easily see Valk being as good as Hakumen, but perhaps less so, just in terms of getting zoned. Hakumen can deal with it, but Valk can't really. And he'll never be as good as Hakumen because all of his good mixups come from wolf mode. Is he going to go for a high? A low? A cross-up? It doesn't matter because you can't block in wolf mode, and I'm pretty sure most 5As will wreck whatever he goes for. He's also pretty fragile, with low health and four guard primers. You could say that Hazama has the same thing going for him, except Hazama also has crazy mobility, and can run away, so very rarely will Hazama get his guard broken. Valk has to block, and I'm pretty sure he doesn't have a reversal. So, yeah. I could definitely see him being about the same as Hakumen, but possibly a little less so. Definitely not as good as Hazama.

Hearing what Tager can do to guard primers scares me.

And no Tao info yet, I have no way to know how bad it's really going to be.

I've been hearing good things on Rachel too. She can finally deal high damage again.
I'm still confused on her 5CC change until I get to see it with my own eyes.

Also, I hear the BBCSII patch won't be coming out until Spring 2011...
Can't wait to hear about Tsubaki buffs and Platinum news though.

Apparently Hazama's zoning with Ouroboros is now even more ridiculous. Word on the street is high tier, so I guess we'll see. *shrugs*
