So much this^.

I realized like a month ago Iw as getting fat so I started doing excersize again ,it's going back to normal but I still don't look like I did. And apparently I ahve to constantly work out and run to stay purdy. Fuxxxx :(
I've been working out with weights for 6 years now, since the beginning of high school, and by now I feel like the gym is a regular part of my day. The gym makes me feel fresh and relieved of any stress I have. I genuinely enjoy working out. About a year ago, with starting college, I got into a bad habit of picking up cigarettes. I started out my habit slow, then by around the 3rd month I was smoking around 4 every day. One day I looked real hard at myself and realized that the buzz and relief I felt in cigs was similar to what I felt in the gym. From then on I started working out harder and enjoying it more than I ever had before.

I'm not suggesting you might have a similar problem or that you may even not enjoy working out. Just putting it out there for others to see that making exercising part of your life can be a casual, fun, and therapeutic thing.

If I had a gym to go to, man I'd be there like at least 5 times a week yo. WE don't exactly have a good gym here man. I don't even think banff has weights :x

So I exercise now just round the house, with push ups and those crunches that swimmers do, and jumping squats, essentially I try and do the spartan work out, some exercises feel weird for me and not in a good way so I stopped doing them, but I am up to 30 reps for 7 of the exersizes, thinking of stuff to fill the gap though, I have monkey bars like a 5 minuet walk form my place, so I might incorporate that into my run and do some chin ups now :p

Feel free to critisize, but I'm working with the best I got :p

Sounds like you're working well with what you have. When I'm away and have no gym I'll do similar stuff and it will feel just as good. Are you in a school with a gym? A place even with a single barbell and bench can do a lot. If not, think about investing in some equipment. If you look online, it's really not that expensive. My friend claims he bought one of those cable cross machines for $20.

I wil be moving out of my mom's place in the coming months, the timing entirely depends on my room mates/friends, so I am trying to save money and Getting ready to leave like, everything behind. Also not in school right now, I didn't want to apply and then leave my friend behind, however when I get there I am going to apply to Camosun where I hope to find a gym membership along with a bus pass. After that I will post a regular work out week assuming I am still on here and not too busy with work and school, and house hold shtuff.

Busy life is busy :(

how have I not found this thread sooner? This is a great idea.

I became interested in my health about 2 years ago so going into my freshman year of high school. I've been cycling and lifting regularly and consider myself to be in pretty good shape.

Question:

How do people POSSIBLY hold a conversation while running? I find that it's impossible to control my breathing.

It's like:

A) Exercise
B) Breathe Normally
C) Hold a conversation

Choose two.

When I'm doing long distance running my pace is much slower and I'll be able to talk to my friend that usually runs with me. It actually makes the running easier because I'm not even noticing the distance. If I'm running a mile as fast as I can, it's kind of impossible because I need focus and will be too busy breathing to talk.

johns :p

srsly tho, u rly dont need a gym to do anything except get big. u can do a lot of exercises that use only ur body weight. there are two altenatives:

1) go to a childrens playground and use the bars and stuff to work out.

2) play sports

and ofcourse the hidden and better third option:

eat better

Good job, I could see a bit more definition in your back and arms, notably in your triceps. That guy next to you looks a bit creepy though, just standing there. >.>

*gonna be a little TMI here but...*

I had a problem with chafing when I was working out, so I decided to purchase some tighter-fitting underwear.
HOLY CRAP did it make a difference. For some reason, I could run alot more smoothly and....it was really fantastic.
I LOVE going to the gym.
LOVE it.

I have a question to ask you guys....

So I recently(About a month ago) started going to the gym to lose weight and get fit overall. So far I've been good progress so fat, but in the first week I lost nearly 8 pounds but afterwards I was consistently losing aboud 3-5 pounds weekly, is this because I'm not controlling what I eat or is this because more muscle is being built while I'm burning fat?

I always thought that you lose more weight the first week more than any other week because of the water weight loss?
I'm not too sure though, but judging by what I've seen, 3-5 is an awesome pace for Weeks 2-->infinity.

That is actually quite a LOT of weight to be losing so quickly, so I wouldn't be so worried. Remeber you are here to be healthier... not exactly to "lose weight." Losing weight just comes with the ride along with other perks :D.

But yes you may be building muscle. You may also just may not have that much fat to lose anymore. Keep us updated

No such thing as TMI when it comes to health haha. Just don't write us a porno >_>.

Clothing choice does have an impact on the comfort you'd have in a workout... I wouldn't suggest going for a ten mile bike ride in cargo shorts and boxers... just use some common sense and decency.

So I'm 6'2 and I range between 200-205 lbs daily.

I also have a fairly big frame.

I'm not even sure If I should be losing any weight. But I feel like I wanna be at 190. Is that a good goal weight for someone 6'2 with a big frame?

I'm 6'1 Maybe 6'2 and I weigh in at 180. I don't have any recent pics, but I haven't changed much from my prev picture. Actually, that's a lie, my pecs and arms got bigger, but not enough to really do much to my weight.

Anyway my Body weight index is around 57(It used to be 51%, Pretty pissed.) where 100% means dead through fat, and 00% is being bones. I took a quiz on the internets though, so I wouldn't even bother referencing that lol. My wii fit balance board said I have a BMI of 57% meaning I'm a TAD bit heavier than I should be with my size.

My frame would be a medium one. I've recently started noticing how fuggin small I am.

Creatine is an interesting thing... I had a short stint of taking it but it kinda upset my stomach and tends to give the user diarrhea. All it does is help your muscles hold water, which allows quicker protein synthesis in them and makes them look bigger.

From what some of my friends have said... it works great if you can deal with going to the bathroom a lot.

Ask shmot though... he should know more on this.

From what I have seen, the BMI index is a terrible way to measure yourself if you are an athlete. It records some of the all-star female volleyball players as overweight... which is funny because they are in the best shape of their lives. Also, it registers some of my more muscular friends on the "in danger of obesity" range. >>

Long story short... the BMI index can't differentiate between the fat or the muscle on a person.

Never feel puny next to the big guys :p. At least you're there... trying to be like them.

In my book... I ALWAYS laugh at the fat person who takes a cab instead of walking 2 blocks... but I NEVER laugh at an overweight person jogging to lose weight.

i need help with my best friend!

right now hes 5'9 220lbs
hes pretty muscly and the fat he has sits pretty well on him but his gut is getting out of hand (starting to look just fat/not athletic at all) . He wants to get back in the gym.

im telling him that he should just lift lift lift and convert some of that fat over to muscle before he even thinks about cutting. When hes cut, hes like 180 and pretty skinny. He likes being a big boy so i told him to just lift a lot lol. bench squat deadlift?

If he wants to cut, he should do so after converting as much of that fat he has on him over to muscle first right? I can tell he likes being big...so just be big and muscly? man bear pig style?

i have to go eat now

In that ruined tower, atop a mountain.
Hello again, fellas, long time no see. So, once upon a time I was at 235lbs, dropped down to 192, and now I'm back up to 215. This has been my second time failing on reaching my goal weight, but I'm gonna try again. I've been having problems over eating on junkfoods, mainly ice cream 'n candy and the like, but I think I've finally found an excellent substitute.

BLUEBERRIES. I didn't even think I'd like them untill I tried them the other day. They're sweet, which satifies my extreme cravings for junkfood I've been having lately. After a while, I got used to that, and now I can satisfy my sweet-tooth with an Apple Turnover Yogurt, instead of a famliy-sized Reese's bag.

So, I'm trying this out again. Something else that's helping to motivate me is when I was at Sam's Club the other day, I saw they had a pretty fatty steak. I couldn't stand to think of body fat actually seeping inside of my muscles like this:
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3244/2813931819_2c07d24ca3_m.jpg

(Notice, my eating habbits were exactly the same when I was at 235lbs, and 215lbs. However, at 215lbs, I drank no soda and ate mainly wheat bread instead of white. I guess eliminating soda and white bread really makes a difference.)

Good luck man! Sorry I keep ditching you XD.

Anyways, blueberries are a great substitute! Junk craving can usually be solved by natural food that happens to taste great as well.

You may be one of the slow metabolism types here, like me and cherry...

That just means you are unlucky and if you stop working out you'll begin to gain weight quickly again. >_>

We tend to live longer though! xD
