The image of Mario shaking Master Chief's hand, surrounded by all the characters from Ultimate, Infinite, and Beyond (3rd Parties included no matter what the company this time), proceeded to break the internet and all social media platforms, and would subsequently enter numerous gaming museums around the world as a historically significant artwork to be displayed as one of the biggest portraits in their galleries.

Along with Rachet and Clank in the middle. Forming an four-way handshake together.

This announcement also came with the announcement of a port of Halo: The Master Chief Collection to Switch/(whatever current Nintendo system we have in this universe), coupled with much enjoyment of being able to enjoy such a large library of games on the newest Nintendo system, especially on a presumably portable/home console hybrid.

Honestly, I'm imagining the final shot of the trailer having Mario, Ratchet & Clank, and Master Chief standing on crystal pedestals color-coded to the three consoles, with all the Smash Infinite Beyond cast members who are best known for being on their respective consoles. (Mario with Donkey Kong, Link, Samus, Yoshi, etc., Ratchet & Clank with Cloud, Snake, Joker, Lara, etc., Master Chief with Banjo, Steve, Doom Slayer, Crash, etc.)

Assuming this whole thing takes place in some huge live gaming event, it should be completed with Doug Bowser, Phil Spencer and Hiroki Totoki doing a triple-way handshake or something on the stage (hence their respective company representatives on-screen from above posts). That'll blow up the Internet much further, for sure.

We could have him able to swap out for two weapons, a light and a heavy weapon with 3 available for each one. These effect a special attack and then maybe one of the Smash Attacks?
I think this could work pretty well! Though, I'd be curious as to what weapons you have in mind given you suggested three for each one? One idea that springs to mind is that maybe his long-range weapon can be switched between the MA5B (heavy, iconic to the series) or the Needler (light, also iconic but with unique potential mechanics). Though, maybe it'd also make sense to give him the Plasma Sword on top of that - or even add the Gravity Hammer if you wanted.

Sorry I meant two weapons but three sets of those.

Since we did not have any concrete submissions in regard to how Master Chief would be played, I decided to go with this character gameplay....

Master Chief Gimmicks: Spartan Loadout

Master Chief has access to three total firearm sets with two guns each that affects the following moves:
  • Neutral Special
  • Side Smash Attack (The Smash Attack is highly dependent on the weapon last used within the set which delivers a more charged-up version of the attack.)
Again, weapons come in two sets: a light weapon which is often designated as a pistol, and a heavy weapon which is designated as a rifle-type weapon. The weapons do have a set amount of ammo but this will recharge over time or if the set is switched out. Switch out the weapons causes a cooldown timer of 30 seconds which makes it unreliable to switch on the fly as care is needed in order to get the right weapons. The weapons in the sets need to complement each other. Sets need to also have a balance between UNSC and Covenant-type weapons.

Spartan Shields
Chief has a passive shield that is at full strength at low damage but will gradually weaken until it shatters at 50% health which causes Chief to be more suspectable to damage with less resistance to knockback and launch which greatly hampers Master Chief. Regaining health causes the shield to restore back to normal. This does not affect the standard shield.

Submit Moves for Master Chief

We will begin submitting moves for Master Chief. These moves should incorporate various weapons such as firearms, swords, grenades, and so on. Please keep in mind that we need the following:

  • A Set of Two Firearms (preferably one from the UNSC and one from the Covenant)
    • The Neutral Special is a Fire option that allows movement within a forward, up, upward diagonal, and backward way.
  • A way to change out the sets to swap them out
  • The Side Smash incorporates the most recently used weapon for a more powerful attack

Firearms Set:
1698104590043.png

Type-51 Carbine
The Carbine is a mid-range gunplay weapon, meant for precision play. In Smash, the Carbine has 18 rounds and will fire by tapping B. Each round deals 4% damage and medium-low knockback. Side Smash with the Carbine locks onto the closest fighter in a cone in front of him and deals 16% damage with medium-high knockback on hit.

1698104606903.png

Type-33 Needler
An iconic Covenant weapon and a staple of the series. In Smash, Master Chief can fire up to 20 needles at a rapid rate. While they deal 1% damage initially, hitting a foe with 7 needles will cause them to explode, dealing 8% damage and medium-level knockback. Side Smash with the Needler unloads the entire magazine, the final explosion adding +1% per extra needle stuck in the fighter.

Shield-B: Supply Call:
By pressing Shield-B, Master Chief can radio a supply drop at his location, which gives him the ability to swap out his firearms set between UNSC and Covenant sets.

a standard issue UNSC Pistol that is fast and packs a powerful punch at medium to long range. This pistol is so notorious that it has it's own Wikipedia page

Plasma Pistol

A covenant pistol that can be pressed rapidly to shoot a small weak projectile or held to charge up a very powerful blast

Down Smash - Gravity Hammer, Chief pulls out the Gravity Hammer and slams it downwards in front of him, This attack also sends out a low lying shockwave from it that deals a bit of damage and fixed knockback.

Though perhaps a little obvious, I feel that it'd make sense for Chief's tilt attacks to utilise the Type-1 Energy Weapon, typically known as the Plasma Sword. It goes without saying that the Plasma Sword is an icon of the Halo franchise and singlehandedly probably one of, if not the most, iconic weapons from the entire series... so if it wasn't included somewhere around here, I think people would be disappointed. As for how it'd affect his moveset, I think it'd predominantly act as a tool to aid in zoning and edgeguarding - keeping opponents at a solid distance so he can lay into them with his more potent ranged attacks. However, to prevent spam, each of these attacks are slightly offset by above-average lag both before and after using them, due to the activation and deactivation of the blade itself.

All of the Plasma Sword attacks are unique in that they have a pretty unique visual effect to them - specifically, when swinging, the sword leaves a momentary glowing trail in its pathway. Not only this, but the iconic sound of its activation also occurs whenever you start up any one of these attacks (more akin to Halo 2's, given it's generally preferred) - and the sword is deactivated after the attacks end. Though, beyond those little additions, they're pretty ordinary in function.

Side Tilt: Drawing the Plasma Sword, Master Chief plants one foot in front of him and slashes it horizontally in front of him, in reference to one of his melee animations from the Halo series when using the weapon (if a little more pronounced.) The attack can be angled slightly upward or downward when used, meaning it's got a little bit more versatility, but it otherwise lacks in vertical coverage despite its decent horizontal reach.
Up Tilt: Master Chief performs an overhead slash downward from above him, being a more pronounced form of his other typical melee animation from the Halo series (which, being first-person, doesn't have as much range.) It's good for overhead and forward coverage and has decent range, making it a good anti-air, but its lack of coverage behind him can mean it's sometimes a little risky to throw out against opponents directly overhead.
Down Tilt: Master Chief draws the Plasma Sword and thrusts it in a forward-down angle in front of him whilst stepping forward, before suddenly lifting it up toward the end (with a sweet-spot) in reference to the Lunge attacks from the Halo series. As a down tilt, it has pretty surprising range... albeit middling damage and knockback, though this is offset by being a fantastic ledgeguarding tool for opponents close to the ledge.

Going to add up two non-firearms set moves there, besides a thought that Master Chief's standard shield animation would involve the Bubble Shield forming around him, darkening over time to indicate its weakening before bursting out and making him dizzy.

Grab - Grappleshot

From Halo Infinite, Master Chief fires out a long-ranged grappling hook forward from his gauntlet to pull an opponent towards him and then holds them with his left arm. He can also grab up ledges for tether recoveries and pick items (except heavy ones like containers and Party Balls) from a far distance, though it has poor startup.

Up Special - Portable Gravity Lift

Debuting in Halo 3, Master Chief deploys a portable gravity lift right beneath his feet (unlike in a GIF) as it unfolds and quickly flings him vertically high into the air before he falls back down, able to move left or right and attack during that. It will then stay in place for about five seconds before disappearing, which other players/fighters can either use to propel themselves as well or attempt to destroy it. Chief can deploy only one gravity lift at a time. When performed in the air, the gravity lift will linger and drop down towards the ground, hitting opponents below it (6% damage), similarly to Banjo & Kazooie's Shock Spring Pad and Sonic's Spring Jump.

I have gotten numerous messages asking what the plan is for after we launch our product which is coming sooner than you think so I decided to do a Question and Answer for our developers and development partners.

1) Will there be DLC?
Yes, there will be but not in the typical sense of what we are used to in Smash. It will be changed a lot.

2) What will be a part of the DLC
For sure Smash Episodes are 45 minutes to 2 hours of typical gameplay of self-contained episodes. We will be submitting one more before we launch which will be made available a week after launch or instantly if you register your game. We will have particular events but, as for characters, nothing is planned. It will depend on how successful the game is. If so, nothing like Ultimate or Infinite numbers.

3) You mentioned events, could you elaborate?
These events will be based on and will be integrated with the Smash Hub; the shared world we have online. These events will be used within the Hub with content being able to be accessed there. Content received in the Hub will be available offline. The events are called Festivals.

4) What kind of festivals will there be?
Certainly, seasonal events will be such festivals with things such as Airships, Speeders, Emotes, and such being made available as well as typical Spirit Events and maybe even Mii Costumes. Others may be company game-related or even archetype-related. Some events will be quite large while others are small.

5) How long do festivals last?
A small event will be around 5 days while larger events can be anywhere from two weeks to a month.

6) Can content be received after a festival ends?
No, it cannot. These events may come back with updates or entirely remade so you can get them later as "Legacy Items".

7) How do you get these items?
You can win them in online matches, in Smash Episodes, purchase them with Gold in Smash, or use real-world currency to purchase items. There is equal opportunity to get items so those who do not want to try to win items using RND methods, can use Gold currency or real-world currency. Using real-world currency lessens the price when compared to Gold earned in the game which is a benefit of using real-world currency. You can also purchase a Smash Pass which gives you these items automatically without the need to unlock them. This is forthcoming.

8) Will there be items made available outside of festivals?
Very rarely.

9) Can you exchange or trade items?
No, that being said, content is visible in online matches.

10) How much will the Smash Hub change for the festivals?
Sometimes it will not change for smaller festivals but more larger or elaborate festivals won't only have an aesthetic change in the Hub world but even vendor characters may change or have costumes, music changes, and even Smash Episodes dedicated to that festival.

11) Can you access these festivals offline?
Sadly, no. You can't receive items from these events if you do not have an internet connection.

12) Can you cancel a purchase of an item? Can you delete items?
If you are purchasing an item with gold or real-world currency, you can cancel the purchase as you are buying it by letting go of the B button before the 5-minute timer expires. That being said, you cannot delete purchase content but you can put it in a Locker which allows you to put items you don't intend to use there.

13) What will the first festival be?
The game will be launched in early November and the first festival will occur in mid-November which will be only for 5 days and will be Fall/Autumn related.

14) Are there more festivals planned?
Yes and no. There are several plans including a winter and Valentine's day festival. There is also a Nintendo celebration planned which will have a HUGE update to it.

15) Do I have to update Infinite Beyond to get these updates?
An announcement a week prior will announce the upcoming event and starting up Infinite Beyond on the day of the festival will cause a small delay as the system updates for it. That being said, it is only a small time to wait.

So far, we have most of the Specials moves for Master Chief save for the Side and Down Special. We also need one more Gun Set for Master Chief. That being said, I want to start on the next job which is....

Master Chief Additional Content and Alternate Colors

We will be submitting the following content for Master Chief:

Entrance Animation (1)
Idle Poses (2)
Taunts (4)
Victory Poses (3)
Victory Theme (1)
Boxing Ring Ttitle (1)
Audience Cheer (1)
Kirby Hat (1) <- Important to note that Kirby has access to the Weapon Set and can swap out
Palutena's Guidance (1)
Snake Codec (1)
Classic Mode (1)

For alternate colors, we will be submitting based on the model of Master Chief that appeared in the very first Halo. If you have an idea of an Alternate Costume like AC Cloud, you can submit that but it needs to be connected to Master Chief. Please provide the swap color slot and then reference/source.

Submit Halo Music

To go along with our Classic Mode, we will be submitting music from Halo. Please submit up to 3 tracks.

Will there be new third-party bosses as well? Because I have one good idea for one.
Probably not but we shall see.

For music track submissions:
  1. Halo (Main Theme) - Halo: Combat Evolved (New Remix)
  2. Greatest Journey (Warthog Run) - Halo 3 (Original)
  3. Overture - Halo: Reach (New Remix)
Victory Theme: A flourish remix of the ending portion of Finish the Fight from Halo 3's announcement trailer in E3 2006.

Left Taunt: Master Chief pulls a data crystal chip from the back of his helmet and briefly projects Cortana's hologram as she says "You look nice." or "Keep your head down." (from Combat Evolved) before he puts it back.

While I'm not going to write a Snake Codec, Cortana would definitely have a cameo role in that part, like Alucard did for Richter on Palutena's Guidance.

Blood Gulch

Arguably one of the most iconic maps of Halo multiplayer, Blood Gulch is a Capture The Flag map taking place on one of the eponymous Halos. In Smash, this a miniature-sized version of the map designed to be a walk-off like Bridge of Eldin...save for the two bases that serve as extra platforms. Eventually, however, a Flag will spawn on one of the bases that a player can pick up. Bring it to the other base and you'll earn a temporary buff to either Attack, Defense or All stats, similar to the Dark Emperor's buffs on Find Mii.

Assist Trophy

The Gravemind

Central antagonist of the first Halo trilogy and a hivemind intelligence that serves as the heart of the interstellar disease known as the Flood. In Smash, the Gravemind appears in the background of the stage and can do one of the following moves:

1698269645135.png

  • Summon Pod Infectors that will hunt down enemies and inflict a damage-over-time effect of 1% per second for 10 seconds, indicated by Flood Spores emanating from that foe.
  • Thrash with tendrils of Flood that deal 6% damage with medium knockback, and inflicts the Flood status effect.
  • Grapples onto a foe with the Flood tendrils, keeping them in a grabbed state that leaves them open to the summoner's attacks.
1698269694321.png
1698269786371.png
1698269824445.png

  • If a foe dies while infected with the Flood, they can transform into a highly mobile 10HP Stalker Form that after 3 seconds will transform into either of the following based on proximity with enemy fighters:
    • Tank Form: A large, 40HP form that tanks incoming attacks and can deal 15% damage with heavy knockback with its larger arm. The Stalker will transform into this if foes stay close.
    • Ranged Form: A stationary, 25HP form that fires a barrage of Flood spines that deal a total of 11% damage with medium-low knockback. The Stalker will transform into this if foes keep their distance.

The Arbiter
After Master Chief, the Arbiter is truly the secondary protagonist though originally he was a major antagonist, As a general of the Covenant, he led a genocidal campaign against humanity until he lost Installation 04 which was one of the first "halos" encountered in the series. This loss, due to the Convenants religious regard to Halos, was branded an Arbiter which, during periods of crisis, was considered a shameful rank as a suicide mission is required to redeem one's honor. However, as the Covenant's lies began to unravel, the Arbiter forsook the Covenant cause and eventually led a Sangheili uprising against them.

In battle, the Arbiter will utilize several attacks based on where the opponents are. If the opponents are far away, he will use a Plasma Rifle to unleash a volley of directed energy bolts at opponents. He can aim at a 360 degree if need be. If opponents get close, he will attack using the Energy Sword. He will also run and reposition himself to other areas. He can also camouflage himself to appear visible before performing a sneak attack using the Energy Sword.

Assist - 343 Guilty Spark

Major memorial character from original trilogy & namesake of the dev team who tookover after Bungie. Simple assist will follow other fighters around shooting a laser towards them doing damage. Will occasionally switch who is being followed.

Stage - Installation 5/Delta Halo (Halo 2 & Halo 3)

A Castle Siege like layout. 1st area is grassy ruins (Omega & Battlefield layouts are here), 2nd is the futuristic control room, & 3rd is the snowy library. No major gimmicks or hazards. Background will see 2 small squads shooting back & forth. 1 side will always be Spartans but leader & enemy will change (Seargent Johnson vs Covenant Grunts in Ruins, Miranda Keyes vs Forerunner Control Sentinels in Control Room, & Hologram Terrence Hood vs Flood Ranged Form in Library).

I am sorry, I forgot to reduce the votes to just one. If those who voted could re-vote, that would be great.

Gravity Hammer
A standard melee weapon of the Jiralhanae, better known as the Brutes, the Gravity Hammer is the resident catalyst for Halo player's brains to revert back to monkey brains when equipped. In Smash, the Gravity Hammer is basically an Ore Club without the tornado function that explodes in a burst of energy in front of the user when using Side Smash. You can tell the weapon has run out of charge when the hammer doesn't create a burst of energy.

Mark 5 MJOLNIR Armor (Universal):
Distinctly, the Halo: Combat Evolved MJOLNIR Armor. While this may be somewhat of an overlap with the actual Master Chief, MJOLNIR armor is a standard piece of gear for subjects of the SPARTAN-II program. In Smash, this would be a default green in free-for-alls, Red in warm-color teams and Blue in cool-color teams, and the weapon used will be fists, an M-13 Machete for the Swordfighter and the M6D Pistol for the Gunner.
