no offense to havok, but why is he on over jont?

he's been to 3 of the listed tournaments and got 9th/97, 3rd/84 and 5th/39

jont outplaces him, now you could argue that higher placings should count for more than consistent placings, but then why is mike in over bardull? bardull has placed higher when they're at the same tournament

also, havok is ranked 3rd in san diego behind nyjin, why is it that he's ranked here when someone who the people who play them most say is better isn't ranked at all.
i think(not sure) that the rankings are based more on who you beat rather than how you placed.while the sd rankings are based on different criteria.

ps:TKD should be a panelist imo

Bigfoot, San Diego Power Rankings only apply to us. Do not use them to help judge the SoCal rankings as our tournaments do not technically count towards the SoCal Rankings. Our rankings are just a little thing to help us reference our best players in our community.

And Larry, TKD is on a brief break from Brawl atm. San Diego's best player at the moment is probably Havok. Awex and I are interchangeable.

And at the San Diego panelist, it should be Oats. (Although I wouldn't mind either *COUGH COUGH COUGH COUGH* Just kidding of course. I'm a little boy.)

I'll make a longer post responding to this later, but I do wanna point out that HavoK only attended 3 of the tournaments you guys counted, where as Bardull attended 4. So if you are trying to justify Bardull not being on the list, I recommend you stray away from the "lack of attendance," as it clearly doesn't serve your case at all.

In fact, why does tournament attendance have such a big impact? Yes, I understand that it would not be fair if some player showed up (lets say Fly Amanita last week) and ***** everyone, then got tossed onto PR due to 1 good tournament. But if a good player shows up to a handful of tournaments and beats who they are supposed to beat, losing only to players ranked above them, why should they be taken off?

Also wanna point out that I have yet to see anyone really agree with this decision to make PR top 10.

And another quick side note: Even if I were a melee player, it really wouldn't change my reaction to losing. I just hate losing in general, and it's something I'm workin on. I threw a controller once, but I broke it, so I don't throw controllers anymore, I kick chairs instead :)

So there's been an agreement to change the list back to top 15.

Not because I said, not because Edrees/Rich Brown said, but because it was a wrong decision. A decision that was not made by any one person, but by a panel in agreement, barring the one person that was over ruled (CPU).

It can be said that one person wanted it more than the next, but in the end it's a decision agreed upon by the panel. The panel system DOES work. There were no bad panelist...it was just a bad panel when it came to this decision. A different mix can help that.

I'm going to agree to join the panel under the following conditions:

1. No "rebellion" panel is made. There's no need to create a secondary panel to get things done the right way.
2. No current panelist is kicked out. I believe they can all be beneficial to the decision making process with the right mix of people.
3. Claire stays on the panel, because she's a good panelist and she's a hard worker, albeit a bit stubborn sometimes. She gets the ball rolling and she gets the info necessary to make good rankings decisions. Because I'll admit, I'm lazy, and you know what you get when you have a panel full of lazy people? You get the "Final Melee update" that never was.
4. Oats is added on to the panel. San Diego needs representation.

As long as all these things go down, then I'll be glad to join the panel.

Thanks for your support of SD, Hugo. I think that adding not only yourself, but Oats as well, should make for interesting PR updates in the future. Debates are a healthy part of any political structure, and I see way too much agreement with the one we currently have established.

Kouryu, don't be condescending. It's okay to discuss and favor between the different communities but don't tell people they are ignorant. You are just making the melee community look bad by attacking people. Just be civilized please. Actually, Chula vista weeklies feel like melee tournaments to me. But most brawl tournies lack that love between people that you guys have down in SD that melee had in most tournies. I feel strongly about this. Do people really throw non ranked player tournies?? That's the first I've heard of this, that's ridiculous.

I agree that the bad apples are there in both games acting the same. However, i think the difference is how the good apples act with each other. I used to travel from San Diego, pick up Azeem and all them and travel all the way to the valley just to smash with superfriends. that's like 3 hours away. Nobody seems to want to travel for smashfests anymore - myself being guilty of this too.

San Diego Love? :D <3 Edrees

Seriously though, I wish I could drive to smashfests. Maybe I should stop putting off my Driving Test. >.>

And, in reference to the thread, Oats + Hugo in the rankings would be super-awesome-cool. Diversity and debate is the best for things like this.

Oats and Hugo would absolutely make great panelists. SD is a talented region which needs representation, and Hugo just knows his ****.

And I drive to smashfests all the time lolol. As for the invite only tournaments, they are pretty much a series hosted by Zero, Fox16 and those guys. They usually get about 15 people tops, and it strikes me more as a get together amongst friends than anything. And even those guys open up their doors and host big tournaments, which run pretty smoothly.

There are others? I haven't seen em, where are they? I haven't seen em on AiB or SWF (although I don't spend too much time on SWF). Someone should invite them out to bigger tournaments.

YEAH that was a lot of fun, it was my last day of school, and I was like "**** it lets drive an hour and a half in the rain to go chill with Edrees" haha.

Edit: Just wanna know if anything is gonna be done about this latest update, it seems most arguments have been presented and it appears that the best conclusion would be to have Hugo and Oats (or some other SD rep if he doesn't want to) on the panel, and change the list back to top 15. Hopefully the panelists can discuss and arrive at the answer which best reflects the wants and needs of the community.

After all, "It's solely up to the community to determine whether or not the list is accurate enough to be considered 'official,'" according to the OP.

Non-ranked player tournaments seem too ridiculous to exist. I thought y'all were joking at first.
I'm glad to see my community putting so much in to itself and I want to thank lots of you for being so passionate about stuff like this. It helps keep the fire going.

I'd also like to apologize for not participating as much as I should be. Most of you all are amazing examples of what we all should be doing.

why is everyone from tj an owl now?
Ask TKD he knows the ultimate truth.

I'm really not looking for the panelist job but, when i do the San Diego Power Rank, I have to check all the bracket from all the tournys we go.

So pretty much i notice a lot of stuff like:
Placing, what good people you beat, to who did you lost, etc...
If Oats become a panelist it will be more easy to provide this information. But if you want my opinion or my help just send me a private message or an email to: burguerobles@gmail.com

I hope i can be of some help.

SoCal Power Rankings (October 28, 2007)- Will the update ever happen?

I like this list very much. While I'll keep my fingers crossed that the next one is a top twenty (Not so I can be on it [I'm too stinky at Brawl to ever make the list!], I just think twenty looks nicer than fifteen), I think this one is great! And yes, Hugo and Oats would be beautiful panelists. <3

I like this list very much.

What about Hall? Wouldn't he make a good panelist? And Hugo should also be on the Panel. He knows what he's talking about from experience.

Good **** making it Top 15!

more than one place
ppl on the 11-15 cant consistently beat nonranked (in general) and havent beaten many ranked (in general your personal performance may be different)

i can bring up multiple embarassing examples (including the small tournies which probably have gone unnoticed by the community at large)

i think i can be on the panel i go to a huge amount of tournies (more than 3 of the 4 panelists) and i really have no negative bias cause im friends with everyone and i dont have a positive bias because i dont care if x is above y on a personal level

i think oats or someone else thats knowledgable from sd should be on the panel too

Thanks for the support, Melee people :)

And @ junk, isn't that why they are ranked 11-15 and not top 10?

Truthfully, Junk does go to just about every tournament. If San Diego had just a smidgens tougher opponents, I'm pretty sure he'd go to our tournaments too.

I'm staying quiet on most of the issues for now though. I don't have too much to say about the current rankings other than I'm pleased that there at least 15. (I was hoping 20).

I'm also happy you guys love San Diego enough to want someone from there to be on the panel.
