I don't see why people won't give Plank another go, honestly. If the previous Pounds were so good (including Pound V, sans the money issue), then you should try to give him another chance with Pound VI. Of course, you'd have to have some provisions in case it happened again (i dunno what those would be), but if he's done them the best so far, then....

I dunno. Considering Plank's attitude after the fact, saying that he wasn't obligated to pay anyone and only to provide an excellent tournament; I don't see too many people going to a Pound VI.

Plank already expressed that he'd be hosting another event largely in part to pay out the winners from Pound 5...

I honestly think we all should forgive Plank (and I was poor for a half year after Pound 5). Yeah he ****ed up and I don't think he deny that but I think we should give him a second chance. I think he learned a lot from last time and it seems like Plank still try to do something right.

I'd def go to a Pound 6.

Merkuri: the less brawl players the better
Well it depends on what you're trying to get from the tournament. I don't think melee can manage an international event without brawl hype. At least melee hasn't been able to get a 200+ tourney without Brawl since Brawl's release. I explained it on the first page

ESA2 had more then 200 people and that was after Brawls relase =)

Okay it wasn't out in the stores in Europe (if I remember correct) but at least Japan had it and a lot of players had already tried it.

Lol melee can def get 200+ without brawl...in fact it will with smashers reunion. It's not like there are many crossover players. It's just that all the big tourneys have had both games.

But the brawlers would come. They'd just complain first.

tl;dr people too serious too irrational

People were basically getting mad at Plank for having no money. Like seriously, what was he supposed to do? Alchemize his clothes? You HAVE to pay the guys with the venue, and he had a plan for doing so, but the attendants # fell under what he was promised/expected.

Sure, the model he used for paying for the venue was unreliable. Basing paying for a venue on an unknown factor that can't be guaranteed (# of entrants) has risk to it. But i'm sure that, in Plank's mind, he legitimately thought it wouldn't be a problem and Pound V would meet the threshold easily.

It just ended up not meeting it. Oh well. The only way you guys are going to be able to let him make up for it, is by giving him more money (go to his tournament). Then he can pay off DrPP/Armada/Whoever got 3rd at Pound V and it can be over and done with.

Say what you want about Plank... he is a beast at TOing and understands how to build a solid foundation for a national event. Pound 4 is still by far the greatest tourney I've been to, not just because of the top players in attendance, but because of the excellent organization of the event. I'd definitely go to a Pound 6, but I obviously can't speak for everyone else. I honestly think if you let Alex Strife handle all the pre-tourney business (reserving the venue, getting sponsors on board, promoting the event) and let Plank handle all the tourney-specific responsibilities (arranging the venue, managing the schedule, seeding pools/bracket) you'd have one of the greatest tourney duos ever.

2 weeks into the new year and we've had 2 100+ tourneys. I don't see what the concern is about.

160 for WGF is pretty ****ing amazing tbh. I understand that its a free tourney, but it all but confirms for me that if a national was hosted in Socal, we'd get 400+ easy. There are so many smashers here. Its mind boggling.

But the point of this thread isn't what WGF or APEX did, but what we have lined up for the FUTURE. We have the hype and momentum to continue at this pace but the events aren't lined up.

Pound 6. Genesis 3. Some other unknown national. Something needs to happen.

That Northwest Manifest thingy in March is looking pretty good.

Oh, and Smashers' Reunion! Has Smashers' Reunion been mentioned yet? :awesome:

In a way I think it's good that there is no international tournament now. Armada would just win it again. We need a new top player to shake things up again, like PP did at Pound V.

I thought you wanted PP to get cancer and have sick johns again. :awesome:
Lol, I have no ill will towards PP. I simply have no confidence in him. And I'm not saying that I want PP to accomplish anything, I just want there to be a new player to be in the running for best player in the world, and to excite us again like PP started doing after him won Rom3.

Honestly if Armada is cool with it, I'm pretty sure it should be ok for Plank to host a tournament. The Pound series have been some of the best nationals I've ever attended.

So PP said he's cool, Armada said he's cool, pretty sure Hbox doesn't really mind anymore from what I can tell. M2K's been screwed out of cash so many times I think even he just glosses over it. If Axe and Hax are cool then there's no reason Plank shouldn't get to bring us Pound Six.

yayyyy pound, doitdoitdoit

has anyone talked to plank about doing a pound 6? or is this just everyone saying they would go and hoping he sees this thread?

he's already posted in it, so i think he's hovering around it in some fashion.

and why would he refuse an offer he can't refuse?

"oh you're all mad at me because of Pound V **** i'm sorry community"

"oh you all want me to do this big tournament you're excited for that i would normally do. i'm just going to say no."

that doesn't sound like plank at all. he'd do it. he wants that rush back, that sweaty smelly stuck-in-a-big-room-with-smashers rush of people causing mischief like not bringing their results up to the front desk.

if it's just impossible to get the Pound IV venue again then it's w/e, but if plank can pull it off no one's going to say he shouldn't

I didn't go, so I need pics of the Pound 4 venue. Was it really the best venue of all time?

I'd go to P6.

P5 was awesome. I want to experience that again.

I mean, I would pay $10 to help pay out to P5 winners, but I would want a chance to compete anyways. I don't play for money much anyways, I play to get good and have fun.

And of course, I'd deff go cuz I KNOW the experience will be ****ing awesome and enriching. P5 helped me improve so much.

Helping P5 winners would be the only instance I'd basically 'give' my entry fee away, otherwise I wouldn't because I'm cheap.
