I wholeheartedly agree. I'd really like the front page of smashboards to be a blog/news section rather than a board listing...

I think there are a lot of interesting writers in the smash community, and a proper frontpage would help guide the narrative.

(thats like one of my billion ideas to improve smashboards. *sigh*)
You and Juggleguy have some good ideas about this. You should really PM an Admin talking about it. When I talked to some of them recently, they mostly asked me about how smash could cooperate with the fighting game community(FGC). That issue aside, it was interesting to know the higher-ups will do good stuff with the ideas that come their way.

If you want, we can talk about it amongst ourselves and I'll present the final idea about how to get writing on the smash scene on the front page started and etc to the higher-ups. Either way works, but I want good ideas like this to go through and help smash grow. =)

Well the people who I'd really like to talk to are the ones actively maintaining the site. I have absolutely no idea who that is. I know Bionic is an admin but I'm not sure if thats his role.

Though tbh, as a programmer myself, I hate handing out TODO lists. I'd love to revamp the site myself but considering I'm not an MLG employee, I have a feeling they don't want me changing the codebase willy-nilly lol.

It'd probably also help if I was in the MBR or something and had some actual standing in the community lol

Blur makes a super good point. While Melee is getting older, so are we, and most of the players have stuck with the game, many of which have money now. The good player funds are a great example, which I doubt would ever have happened back in the day. It'd be funny if the metagame unevolves after all of us get old people reflexes though. :D

I think Violence is a great example of this. He's finished school and he's funded so many players to tournaments (Hungrybox, Dr. PeePee, Shroomed, SFAT, etc) and is all-around awesome! <3

Samus is bad though. :awesome:

^People would try to say that eventually everyone will get to old for it but there are younger people out there who haven't gone out yet because their experiencing the problems you used to have. I started when I was 12 and simply couldn't go to tournies because I was 12 and they were far. I told myself I'd get back into it when I was 18, I'm 17 now and it actually worked out. There are still younger people who don't know about the competitive scene and might be exposed to it in college, not to mention little brothers. It seems there are quite a lot of good players with younger brothers.

But enough about how the community has yet to hit it's peak, back to the actual discussion people were having.

I dont really agree with the whole walk away from it and come back approach. I mean theres so many things to keep you away. I fell ***-backwards into the scene, I wanted to find a video about beating event 50 or something and found a video of M2K and PC Chris.

I Honestly dont think that college would change that, if anything, hinder it. Once you hit college, you become more weary of life, and financials, and for a lot of people being able to put aside money to attend a video game tournament, just wouldnt be in the cards. I think at this day and age, and the lengths people are willing to go, you have to be raised with it.

This also goes with how far the meta game has been developed, I mean Ive been playing competitvely for about a year now(little more/little less, depends when you count) and I am having a really diffcult time catching up/keeping up.

Well there's a few new players who say they started because of college and seeing as that's when you start meeting people outside your town you get exposed to it when competitive players hold their tourneys there. I'm not saying college is the time to get into it, you can, it's the time to get exposed to it for a lot and from there it's up to them if they wanna come out.

the way I did things was stupid and regret it but I'm still having trouble getting out there so I don't think I could have done it any other way years ago.

They all give orders and talk it over amongst each other anyway lol.

Yes, Bionic is the one who actually implements the changes though iirc.

All I'm suggesting is that if you have good ideas don't just sit around and say Smashboards can't do anything about it when you totally have the ability to make something great happen. =)

If you have good ideas, then they're good ideas regardless of standing. It's just a matter of making sure the right people see the ideas once they're conceived that matters.

Well of course not I mean at the age of 12 you cant go out to things like that. I simply think its a bad idea to walk away from it completely because then you lose valueable practice time. Atleast even if you're young you can practice at home/with friends and keep an idea of whats going on.

I really had no one to play with, I haven't played a human since 2009. The people I played were from brampton but that was even farther and the guy I played with mostly went out and was well-known in the GTA but he retired early I guess. I tried desperately to get friends into it, didn't work out. whatever so long as the scene isn't going anywhere I'll get out there. See you soon.

I live In Niagara, there is no scene, just people who are willing to pick up a controller once and awhile. So I know your pain.

Anyways were getting off topic.
I cant wait to do my own Impulse write up!

Its funny back at Apex, there was talk about how no larger tournaments had really been announced. Now were looking at an enormous year, so much potential and its only March :) I'd really like to thank the community from a newer players perspective, I love this game, and I want to see it grew to new heights, we can do it guys :)

Did I just see Zelda and Falcon attempt a wombo combo, the toe didn't finish it though. That should've been falco.

Crimson, I definitely think you should start doing a "Melee Forecast of the Year" type of article. If talking about tourneys an entire year in advance is too far away (since TOs don't usually announce big events until 6-8 months beforehand), then maybe you could do something like a quarterly Melee forecast.

Yeah I love that idea. Sounds like a great companion piece to the Year in Review.

I think its fine to keep it just yearly; keeping them a pair is cleaner.
