I was waiting for this! I think my life is complete now.

Sonic may have been my favorite character in Brawl, and Marth my main for serious stuff, but as my save file tells me, Ike was my most used character by a fair margin. I loved beating the **** out of my friends with Ike, possibly because it gave them a little bit of an advantage because he was so slow. Even so, let's hope he's faster this time! And maybe has his projectile sword beams... alas, he would be broken if he was just like he is in his games... Regardless, I think he was an incredibly well-designed newcomer to Brawl, with power that was properly balanced out (perhaps even too much, he wasn't very good competitively) and enough personality (which is funny, since some of my friends argue he has no personality in his games... I disagree) to make him, as I've seen it, one of the more loved characters.

I was sure he'd be back, I think it would have been a major waste to get rid of one of the most unique playstyles added to Brawl, but I'm glad and relieved to see my certainty supported.

And... while I may not dig this costume as much as his ranger outfit that he had in Brawl, I have to say that this is much more fitting, and still incredibly awesome. It looks just like how I remember his appearance in Radiant Dawn, and there are enough similarities to his other design that I have no problem letting the other one go. I think they even kept his face a bit more similar to how it looked in Path of Radiance than in Radiant Dawn, since I find this Ike a bit less alien. His hair certainly looks better than it did in Radiant Dawn, too: that could be a major point there, you know. The hair is very important. Also, they gave Ragnell its fins this time!

In any case, are there any other characters I'm waiting for? Let's see, uh... Wolf, since I want my friend's main to return... and I think that's it, haha!
This pic of the day has certainly made my day!

Congrats to the Ike fans. But on the bigger picture here, with TL and now Ike confirmed, does this mean we may see almost no cuts (aside from Ivy and Squirts)? Or maybe some really devestating types of cuts like IC, Jiggs, Falco or dare I even speak it... G&W? If we get essentially no cuts, this might mean a very dissapointing amount of newcommers, or a really huge final cast. Especially with ZSS and and Shiek getting their own slots.

Ugh.

I think Ike has an original moveset and deserves to be in the game, but he seriously needs to be balanced. In Brawl, Tink v. Ike match-ups were insanely skewed in Ike's favor because of his high priority and weird hitboxes. So if they fixed that then that'd be great.
Uh, what? Last I checked, Ike in Brawl has terribad approaching options. You have three types of projectiles at your disposal to camp him out. USE THEM!

G&W is a lock. There's no way Sakurai would NO bring a unique character like him back. And really, we'll just have to see. As far as newcomers go, I wouldn't be disappointed about lack of newcomers. Brawl went overboard with them.

That's not my play style, it's up close and personal. Not to mention Ike's sword can out priority all but bombs.

Ahh, Ike. I'm surprised he's back and didn't get removed/replaced liek Roy was. Everytime I played him in Brawl he's fun because his hits felt so good....
Sadly he was too slow for me to use him often. Hopefully he steps it up a bit in SSB4.

As a Marth main, I more or less HAVE to get close. But anyways, save Jab 1, Ike's moveset is slow and telegraphed. Therefore, to win, he has to rely on YOU making mistakes to do much of anything, really. If you see him throw a move out, evade/shield and punish.

Not too shabby. A bit of a surprise they would pop him up like this on a Friday. I guess he'll have more friends to fight for...

I couldn't be more excited by this! I spent many, many hours with a friend last semester, playing "Fire Emblem Only" matches on Brawl, and developed a massive appreciation for the franchise. It actually led me to try Awakening (which has turned out to be one of the best gaming experiences I've had in a decade). Ike's redesign is fantastic, and I look forward to seeing how they've modified his character for the new titles.

...the only thing that I'm remotely worried about now is the likelihood of a third Fire Emblem rep. I mean, like someone said above, if over ten titles in a franchise doesn't make it worthy of a third rep in Smash, I don't know what would.

I thought brawls roster was perfect, except for Lucario and no Mewtwo, and the inclusion of Snake and Sonic really blew me away with hype. I'd personally be dissapointed on the whole if the roster looked more like 'Brawl 2' than it did 'Smash 4'.

The only cuts that wouldnt be too controvertial at this point would be Lucas, Rob and probably Wolf. And I can longer see Lucas being cut, and Wolf is pretty much in the clear as well. I just hope Sakurai and his team put in the effort of including a lot of characters and balanced them. So far Ike, TL and Lucario were characters myself and I believe a lot of others were confident were on the bottom of the priority list, and defied our expectations Sakurai did.

I believe this accurately sums up the journey of Ike's chances of returning.

Huzzah!! The hero of Crimea has returned! And thank the stars they did not use his Awakening design!

Given what he has going for him, I never doubted he would return. Besides Marth, Ike is the only titular character in the Fire Emblem series to have appeared in more than one title as a playable unit (excluding the DLC in Awakening), and he is fairly popular. Plus, he had a unique moveset in Brawl. That being said, I am not the least bit surprised by his return.

What is with all the Roy hatred? I understand if you prefer one character over another but c'mon. Yes he was a clone. A good number of others were. Some of them have been given chances with revamped movesets in past installments. This is the same exact concept that happened with Mewtwo. "Oh he was bad in Melee. He's just a clone from Melee." They could bring out brand new movesets for those characters and revamp them entirely. Roy's playstyle literally is a middle ground between Ike and Marth. His sweetspot is at the center of his sword. Yes he starred in one game. So did Chrom if I'm not mistaken. The only difference is Fire Emblem Awakening was far more popular and a much better game. Not to mention the exposure it got because it was actually released in the United States. Roy will always be our boy.

After seeing this reveal. I honestly think we're going to have the entire Brawl Roster. (Aside from Squrtile and Ivysaur.)

Honestly, while I don't care for Chrom either, I don't care for Roy. In Melee, Roy was a Marth clone through and through. They axed him in Brawl, and added Ike, but Ike was unique. However, he used a sword. Just like Marth.

I accept Ike because despite being a sword wielder, he was completely different to Marth and Link. Ike uses a great sword, and can wield it in one hand for some attacks and hit's really hard, while Marth uses a long sword and has much more speed, rhythm and finesse. Link's sword attacks are a middle ground between these two.

Roy's whole shtick, as far as I know, is that his sword is augmented with fire magic. But his sword is similar enough to Marth's. So the most they could do is give him fancy fire effects. And in terms of fire-based characters, Charizard already covers that, and other characters incorporate fire to more minor degrees (including Ike).

I have not played more than the FE: Awakening demo as far my FE experience goes, I will admit that. But even in that demo, I saw much more interesting options for FE reps than Chrom or Roy.

I think Chrom will be the one who gets in regardless, though.

Then you allow yourself to get wrecked in the matchup. You should be camping Ike out until you can kill him. Most (if not all) of the cast has attacks that cancel out arrows and boomerangs. Ike's "sword attacks" are slow and therefore a terrible, inconsistent way of dealing with projectile spam like Toon Link's, if not all projectile camp. Powershielding is the best answer to it by far.

Pleeeeeease make one that has "For Sympathy" instead of "For Fun." That would make my week.

Just as an FYI, I didn't make that image.

I could probably make the "For Sympathy" thing now, though.

If anyone can identify the font of the "For Fun" text, that'd make it even quicker.

If you'd like my opinion, from what I've seen on this thread, those who want Chrom say his moveset would be between that of Ike and Marth, which would be the same scenario if Roy was brought back. Just because Roy was a complete clone in Melee does not mean he could not come back with an entirely new moveset. Sakurai mentioned himself that he does not like getting rid of characters. He did also say that he's trimming the fat though. In my opinion I don't think Roy will return. I do not think that Chrom will be a newcomer either to be quite honest. The roster is already at 30 and if you include the obvious Ness, Jigglypuff, and Captain Falcon that makes 33. There is a good number of characters who are without a doubt going to return. Ganondorf, Metaknight, Ice Climbers, and Falco. That brings it to 37 which is 1 less than Brawl. Unless the roster is larger than Brawl(it's looking to be that way) than I just don't see many more newcomers joining. I'd say one more newcomer at the maximum and that's it. Who is it? Wait until E3.
