Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

Dixie at the least can fit the DLC pack mold that they have going with a Tropical Freeze stage and a good amount of music from that game and maybe even a few more DK tracks. What would characters like Waluigi and Toad bring for those departments?

Assuming Spirits don't deconfirm characters.

This exactly. There's no DKC3 music at all and only two returning rips from TF. Plenty of stuff Dixie could bring.

Mario already has the most stages and music out of any franchise.

Rosalina is basically a one-off if we ignore her two secret appearances and the spinoffs.
Rosalina's "one-off" game, Super Mario Galaxy (a main series title, may I remind you), was a huge and notable game, that when on to be considered one of the greatest games of 2007 (That's quite a big honor when you remember exactly how insane 2007 was for gaming), and a huge game changer when it came to Mario games.

Rosalina was also a very well developed character who Nintendo liked so much, that only 5 months after her debut, she made her first spin-off appearance as an unlockable character in Mario Kart Wii. That's insanely fast.

She, along with Wii Fit Trainer and the Miis, can also be seen as representatives as one of Nintendo's most triumphant and notable eras in their history. A time where they were back on top after nearly a decade of being beaten at their own game by Sony, and made a huge impact on the gaming industry with the Wii.

If you ask me, Rosalina has quite the legacy, and she's only been around for 11 years

Waluigi would probabky bring Mario spin-off stuff. A tennis court stage and music from the Mario spinoffs, more than what we have now. Not sure about Toad.

Don't forget she starred in a main game title.

Well yeah, taking that into account as well.

Forgot there was no DKC3 music as well.

And though I do agree with that last statement, I still think Fawful would be fine bringing in a M&L stage/list of music.

I'm not saying she's unimportant or has no legacy; I also loved Galaxy.

I just see all this reasoning against Waluigi being playable as rather unfair, almost like what K. Rool has gotten based on what I've read before (except reasonings were different because of their roles and such, of course).

Based on sources in that one podcast and the K. Rool thread itself, Nintendo higher-ups didn't care whatsoever about K. Rool until the fan-demand surprised them.

While K. Rool starred in mainline games as well, I remember at one point that the spinoffs were being used to defend Rosalina and Daisy when I tried arguing for Skull Kid, since the spinoffs keep them relevant. Heh, I could've said Hyrule Warriors, then...

Man, remember when Loz18 came here and tried to be all mysterious?

That was weird. I wonder what pseudonym he's using nowadays.

In regards to Waluigi, I remember hearing there being sort of an awkward division between the various Nintendo studios such as R&D4 and R&D1; in that they don't like using characters the other studio created. Hense why Wario, Daisy, Waluigi, etc. don't show up in the core Mario series and are left to spinoffs.

Of course I could just be listening to too much Retronauts again.

Man, wouldn't it be weird if he was here right now?
If he was one of us?

Hah, oh man. That'd be so strange...

I think they're onto me.... ****, I have to move to another country again, change my identity.. I have to start all over for the fourth time this year.

That's the trend.
Somewhere, somehow, the fans are always going to come up for a reason to preserve the current status quo.
It happens, for quite literally everything Smash has done.
And if literally anything contradicts said status quo in regards to other things Smash has done, there's always excuses why those are exceptions despite the same reasoning against one legitimately applies to the one who did make it.

I thought the same until we found out all the DLC is going to be third-party. Heck, you could say the same about Elma and any ARMS character (no Xenoblade X or ARMS music). I would be very surprised if we got any Nintendo character DLC after Piranha Plant at this point.

I have not played Tropical Freeze, but its really a shame that no additional music was included in Ultimate, since everything I heard from the soundtracks seems to be among David Wise's best work, and that actually says a lot.

I do seriously wonder what Loz's end goal was though. He knew his time was numbered the minute that E3 was over, yet he kept himself in the spotlight.

If it was attention, he got it, but at the cost of him having to more or less go into hiding since September.

Assuming his name is just an acronym for Legend of Zelda, I wouldn't be surprised if he just wanted to give his most wanted character, Skull Kid, some time in the spotlight. And it definitely worked.

It did work. There was barely any talk of Skull Kid until he started saying he was going to happen.

...The hell did I just walk into?

My only complaints about Waluigi aren't the fault of the character himself. Nintendo should do something with him; give him his own series, have him be Wario's sidekick in Ware, anything really. I don't find the spin-off moveset interesting and I feel it lacks cohesion to work together.

I'd give Wario Land a small makeover and make him the star of that series instead of its current titular character.

Hm.

Well, if we're going with one big mainline role + spinoffs as good for a character, I guess no one can argue against Skull Kiddo using this reasoning, unless of course you stick to "they're Mario characters, though" in which case you're throwing the spinoff fact out the window, not even considering Peach's and Daisy's side-smash.

It did work. There was barely any talk of Skull Kid until he started saying he was going to happen.
I do remember people applying the chair theory to Skull Kid; I think that may have been before loz18's words but I forgot.

Being a large zelda fan (or I assume he was), my guess is that his primary end goal wasn't the spotlight. Or well, it was, but not to be shined on him for the most part.

I believe he used his status of temporary fame to his advantage to cast the spotlight onto one/some of his favorite characters that at the time seemed likely to get in. Either he was hoping he'd be able to continue to make lucky guesses, or make certain characters in the smash community a bit more famous in hopes of making them even more likely of getting into smash in the event there's another Smash ballot.
And it worked for quite a while. I'm sure there's a lot of people who'd like Skull Kid in Smash, but up until Loz18, the majority of those supporters were silent or indifferent, but became quite vocal thanks to Loz18.

Whether his goal was to try to hold onto whatever fame he had, to falsely leak things that seemed plausible in hopes of gathering attention to them and making them more likely to be real, though, is something we likely won't really get the chance to truly know for a long while.

OK guy, let me just set this straight...
There is NO confirmation that all the DLC is 3rd party.
You may think that because of Joker's reveal, Reggie's statement and the leaks we've gotten.
But unless Nintendo straight up says there is no Nintendo DLC, it's not deconfirmed.
I'm fine with people believing the opposite.
I'm NOT fine with people stating it as a fact.

Oh speaking of chair theory, I was browsing TV Tropes and this somehow wormed its way in and someone applied there own theory on what the chairs symbolized.

This was under the tag Foreshadowing btw

The chairs are actually representative of Galeem and Dharkon, who glow yellow and purple respectively as they die during the true ending of Adventure Mode.

I agree that the idea that all DLC will be 3rd party is flawed.

However, I am choosing to take Reggie's words to heart, as this isn't something I'd put above Nintendo after what happened with the box theory.

I agree with the notion that all the DLC characters will be characters that have never appeared in smash in any form, whether it's 1st party or 3rd party. I know this isn't a popular belief with many, but I wonder if the reasons are similar to those as to why the box theory wasn't quite popular.

We will see. Reminds me of the box theory where people did not believe something solely because they did not want it to be true. Personally, I think the closest thing we will get to a Nintendo character will be if Banjo-Kazooie or Geno gets in.

The writing is pretty much going to be on the wall once the third DLC character is unveiled.

Naw man Sakurai wanted to mislead us. It was obviously the plant hinting at Piranha Plant.

I’m almost certain it was to build support for Skull Kid. He was actually pretty clever about it.

Or at the very least, a Yoshi Head.

Actually no, that sounds morbid. Let's go with Yoshi Mask.

Master Hand and Crazy Hand are a child's hands, while Galeem and Dharkon are chairs in the school the child goes to (his mom is a teacher and brought a couple of chairs home for him).
