Thoughts on the return vets and updated newcomer thoughts:
Returning Veterans:
: Never really cared about the Climbers. Even though I was happy to see them back, I'll likely never pick them or play with them seriously. Maybe every now and then for fun.
5/10
: Did not expect him to come back and how he was handled here, I was pleasantly surprised. In Brawl, I thought he was a mess of a character but here he looks like what he was to be. Hopefully all the Pokemon here are much more balanced this time around.
7/10
: Do I even need to say it?
10/10
: Pretty much the character that said "Yeah, we serious, EVERYONE be back". Never cared for Pichu, but Pichu has had a charm as being the joke character. I won't play him seriously as of yet, but I'll pick him up for the lolz and fun.
6/10
: Honestly would have liked to have him stay instead of getting
, but eh he's back. Young Link was a kinda there addition for me since Melee, but I have no problem with him being back. Certainly prefer him over Toon Link.
7/10
: No idea why he was removed from Smash 4 in the first place. Wolf was one of the best newcomers in Brawl and seeing him back made oh so very happy.

Newcomers:
: Was practically guaranteed for this game. Splatoon is basically one of Nintendo's big boys now and not having the Inkling's playable would have a big WTF moment. I like Splatoon, I like the Inklings, no problems here.
8/10
: Not a bad addition, but not someone I lost my mind when they revealed. I know Daisy was requested for a long time and I am glad for them. She's just not mind-blowing, to me at least. She's certainly not bad, I welcome her.
7/10
: Took 'em long enough. Should have been here long ago but I'm not complaining whatsoever that he's here.
9/10
: Holy s#!$. He was one of my most wanted characters in this game and I got him. His trailer was magnificent and seeing Simon in Smash just felt like he was always here. I was oh so happy seeing him here and he'll likely end up being one of my most used characters.
10/10
: Aside from the "Everyone is here", Richter is the only unexpected character so far and in all the right ways. Unfortunately, I didn't fully know who Richter was when he was shown alongside Simon. However, now that I'm much more caught up in Castlevania, especially with Rondo of Blood, I'm very happy he's here.
9/10
: Probably the newcomer that made the happiest, even more than Simon. After being done so incredibly dirty in Smash 4 and made a laughing stock, seeing him playable in Ultimate alongside Snake and Simon makes me unbelievably happy. Chrom will be one of my most used characters in the game and will always get use. So far, my favorite newcomer, though Simon does come very close.
10/10.
: Love me some Metroid and the more the merrier. Dark Samus is great and due to being an echo of Samus, she will get a lot of playtime. Still can't believe we have 4 Metroid reps.
9/10
: While I'm happy to see him here and for all those who wanted him here for years, I didn't exactly lose my mind when he got revealed. The trailer was good, but I was mostly like "He's here. Cool!" but that's basically it. I do not dislike K Rool being here, not at all, he's a really good addition. He's kinda like Daisy for me. Glad he's here, but not losing my mind.
7/10
: Probably my least favorite newcomer, but that doesn't make her bad. Thing is I am not a fan of Animal Crossing so when I saw her, I wasn't excited (though that's more the trailer being rather meh then her own) but I don't dislike Isabelle. Heck, I'd choose her over Villager any day. She just wasn't hype which for a fighting game, you kinda need to be.
