Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

I'd probably play a lot more Bowser myself if he wasn't already so dang similar to Charizard. I mean, they have their differences, but they both feel pretty close, so playing both feels kind of redundant to me.

Actually I might end up playing more Bowser in Ultimate when I want to relive the old solo Zard days.

Question: Are there any characters you guys hope and push for sooooo badly, yet when they make it in you don't, or were never going to play with them? You just wanted them in the game?

I really wanted K. Rool since Brawl...I'm happy he's in, finally, but I don't play heavy characters casually or competitively. Does anyone disagree with this mindset?

For me, I just want characters I love represented on the roster. Some I play (Pit), some I want but probably wont (Dixie Kong).
Probably Isaac or Geno for me.

More so Geno, cause I could see myself using Isaac depending on how they handle him, but Geno would probably be a projectile heavy character and I don't play those often (RIP Mega Man.)

Dude you kidding me? She along with Banjo-Kazooie and Black Shadow are my most current wants. Smash needs more female villains. She's also the perfect echo for Palutena. Same height and structure, wields staff, both opposites being goddess of light and goddess of dark. It's perfect.
Agreed. Dark Samus was a great start, so we should expect some more femme fatales, Medusa included. My knowledge on these characters is limited, though, so I can't really say who could be in at this point (Veran? Syrup? Lusamine? I honestly can't say for sure).

A Waluigi Mii costume for sure, maybe Krystal and Bomberman too.

Ashely and Takamaru as far as returning ones go.

They have about as many (ie as few) similarities between themselves as Fox and Wolf, and I'm not letting that stop me.

Michael, your three should go up against my "Brawl Three" :ultpit::ultlucario::ultwolf: someday

There's no theme, they're just the three mains I used in Brawl. Oh! Squad Strike!

One could argue Ridley is more of a bird since he's a space pterodactyl and they were closer to modern-day birds than reptiles
Um, Pterosaurs were reptiles. Unless you mean "modern-day reptiles", as in snakes and lizards.

They're still pretty close to crocs and gators though.

I'm not calling them clones or anything, it's just that they have fairly similar gameplans. They're superheavies with good run speed, and attacks that are large, powerful, and sometimes very risky. I still play a little Bowser, it's just that usually when I'm in the mood to play him I'm equally in the mood to play Zard.

I hope the next character is someone who isn’t on the level of Geno or Isaac just so the fan rule that the only newcomers will be highly requested ones gets debunked

So how would you guys feel about an “instant replay” kind of feature that can be accessed from the start menu? It could be controlled with more or less the same camera buttons, and would allow you to rewind and watch a portion of the match in PIP or full screen.

If something like twitch integration ever happened (keep dreaming) you could have a function for casters to “join” the match and take full control of the feature - but most of the implications of this feature would probably be found in offline play/in between sets, so as not to disrupt the rhythm of the eSports event, or for easier clipping of intense plays for later viewing.

When I look at Greninja and Squirtle, I see thematic similarities. Both are fast characters using water. And well, being Pokemon and Water types literally.

And that's where it ends, really.

For instance, when I saw Ike in Brawl, he reminded me loosely of Roy overall. A similar Neutral B, a more heavy-style swordsman to a degree, the fire, etc. Thematically similar. Actually similar? Nope. Another example is Lucario and Mewtwo. They're both anthro Pokemon that are highly popular and use tons of energy-based moves. But in reality, they aren't that similar(though their moveset has more similarities if you just look at them compared to Squirtle and Greninja who are severely different).

Also, I do wonder what the WAH thing is going to mean. I know there was some leak recently about some Switch content. A FF Mobile version or whatever was leaked and true? Anybody have that leak so I could see it?

So, question.

How much stuff from 8.8 is even left to be used for filler PotDs? It feels like it's mostly down to items, Assists and Pokemon.

This really makes me think that they had intended to show off a few more items/assists/pokemon in the Direct to have buffer-pics until whenever the next Smash Direct is.

Just to clarify, MamaLuigi123456 MamaLuigi123456 was correct that pterosaurs are very closely related to birds.

Dinosaurs, pterosaurs, crocodilians, space dragons and modern birds are all archosaurs. What's even more amazing about that is that, despite being so closely related to one another, pterosaurs and birds both evolved wings and the ability to fly completely separately from one another through convergent evolution.

Now I should probably stop myself before I go down the wikipedia rabbit hole and start geeking out over how cool evolution and the fossil record are again.

None of the new items haven't been shown I think and they were quite a bit.

Pokemon are mostly done now and the only AT from that Direct shown so far is Alucard.

It's here, but it was fake - it got the time of the direct wrong and doesn't mention the Mega Man demo that was definitely supposed to be announced in the direct today (given how it was announced without a direct anyway).

Darl Samus is married prime which is genderless

Yeah, I'm the same way. Its why I don't do the Links and part of the reason I don't do Samus (Dark Samus will force my hand).

Came here for leaks, was dissapointed. I thought something concrete was being discussed, not bad memes.

Has anyone seen the theory involving how the characters are revealed? So far they are being revealed chronologically. This doesn't include echo fighters.

Ridley - August 1986
Simon - September 1986
King K Rool - 1994

So if this continues, who can we expect to see next?
Rayman - 1995
Geno - 1996
Bandana Waddle Dee - 1996
Banjo & Kazooie - 1997 (Diddy Kong Racing) / 1998
Skull Kid - 1998 (OoT) / 2000 (MM)
Issac - 2001

I think you forgot one who breaks your theory.
