So if this continues, who can we expect to see next?

To be fair, probably has a lot to do with them being just kind of brushed over in the "EVERYONE IS HERE" trailer.

That, and while they got a trailer, they didn't get a splash screen.

Eh. I just can't see him being playable. He's relatively obscure and the character himself didn't debut in a video game like all the others. It wouldn't be realistic for him to be prioritized over any other potential fighter. That's why I think a Mii costume would work better.

Him debuting in a cartoon doesn't mean much as he's 1st party. He's also not that obscure. It's a very well known piece of media. A bit niche, of course.

The issue is "debuting in a game" is actually a 3rd part thing. 1st party doesn't matter. However, the fact he has no game appearances is a far bigger issue instead. R.O.B. didn't literally debut in a game, nor did Lucario either. They're still in due to being 1st party in some way. What he lacks is a real game appearance to make him feel like a gaming character. If he was 3rd party, his game debut thing would be more relevant, but it's not.

They stop the Octarian army from taking over Inkopolis, and in a Turf War, both sides are called the "Good guys" and "Bad Guys" respectively.

There's not a lot of characters who can't be made to fit into a "hero" or "villain" theme. A theme like that probably appeared on its own, not because of some arbitrary quota.

I thought we all agreed Sakurai doesn't play by quotas too closely.

Well, I guess that works to a certain degree. I just assumed the only heroic one, was the one seen in Splatoon 1.
However, aren't a good chunk of them just hanging around living in Inkopolis instead of fighting back? Like unless, idk, they're on reserve or something.
But even then, Daisy is still here guys. She doesn't qualify for either, despite your feelings on her.

My current bet is that it's circulating around now like the ESRB leak did for ~2 weeks before it got posted on 4chan.

It's just a matter of whether the leak or the Direct comes out first. I'm watching 4chan like a hawk right now because if we get something it's likely going to be there.

They are extremely leaky due to there paper methods unfortunately. Still can't wait for whoever comes.

Doesn’t matter if you “can’t” see him getting in.

As soon Simon was confirmed, I saw many tweets on Twitter making Captain N memes and asking for Captain N himself to be in Smash.

Many people “can” see him getting in Smash someday even if you “can’t”.
