Seems logical. I'll agree to this.

I believe music johns is probably the lowest form of john. If anyone was to insist upon it I'd probably argue to keep it on just to spite them, so a coin toss is probably the fairest/simplest way to go.
Haven't you guys been spiting us this whole time?

Could just put it halfway between what each player wants.
I'm ok with this.

This poll was meant to be look like this.

Music off on all setups.

Coin toss if 1 player wants it off and the other wants it on

Music off if 1 player wants it off and the other doesn't care.

+this in the OP. But whatever.

"Reasons" to have music on:

The catchy tunes distract me from the crowd noise.

I need music, it helps me react quickly in a game like melée.

We play it the way it's intended, raw, unmodded Brawl.

music gets me pumped up...
without it I'd flop :'(

Well I care if it's off, feels to awkward without it. music needs to be on. Also what Shaya said. Some of those tunes
get you pumped. Like that battlefield one he had.

You know another good purpose of the music is to keep the game fun.

and I've never claimed that the music was a distraction. If anything, I found it gave me focus.

We should play the game as it was given to us.

People like listening to music.

We're used to having music on (music off makes all the sfx have a weird distracting echo effect...)

it will be just as hard to hear the finer details of the game with music off purely from the scale of this tournament.

Reasons to have music off:

Less noise (which may help with headaches and your level of tiredness at the end of the day).

Easier to hear people talking to you/don't have to talk as loud.

No music means u can record the matches with just the sound effects and then u can add custom music + commentry to the video when its uploaded.

Easier to concentrate on your match.

You can hear important game noises easier (picking up diddys nanas, snake dropping a C4, Snake's C4 switching between players, snake pulling out a grenade, TL pulling out a bomb,).

It makes the sound in the room more manageable and theres less clash.

The goal of this poll was to truly see what the community wanted, but in the layout posted above, but yeah, I don't really care anymore. See you's in a week.

Ric, you forgot the option where Music is On for all setups, which is also what, at this point, 88% of voters want.

Half of those "reasons" to have music off aren't even going to apply to robocop anyway...

Also, you never explained why people just plain wanting something is "not a reason".

Not that it matters at this point, get poll *****.

I didn't know that in the rules for Robocop it says "no one is allowed to play Diddy, Snake, Pikachu and Toon Link".

And less noise doesn't mean you can hear people easier? Since when?

You troll, I troll.

did you know that if music is on, the game is more balanced?
If music is off, Metaknight's fsmash hitbox extends to cover the entire screen.

If music is off, Toon Link's dair teleports him to the opposite side of the stage, same from harm, instead of straight down into the abyss.

If music is off, Snake's C4 will sticky you from anywhere and kills at 0%.

I think we found out why some select people want music off.

You troll, I troll.
I was actually not trolling, give a serious response please. Or do you just think any kind of challenge is a troll, or just not know what a troll is to begin with?

Here's a list of reasons why I don't think your arguments apply to robocop. I don't expect or even want you to respond to these points, and I won't respond even if you do. I'm just writing them out so you know I wasn't trolling. Let's see...

1. "Less Noise"/"Easier to hear people talking to you". They're somewhat related so I'll lump them together. I don't know if you went to Rocky, but if Robocop is going to be anything similar, there is going to be so much hype (across many games, not just smash) going around that you're not going to tell the difference in noise levels with the music on or off. And I don't know what world you've been living in, but having music on does not make it harder to hear people talking to you, period, unless you have the TV volume up REALLY high. Again, the main factor at robocop in hearing people talk to you is going to be hype-related noise.

2. "You can overlay commentary/your own music on a sfx-only recording". I don't know what the recording setup is like at your tourneys, but Shaya records "over the air" so to speak, meaning the game feeds the video and a microphone feeds the audio: commentary is recorded into the video on the spot and the only game noise you're going to hear is in the background, hidden under the hype (i.e. you won't hear it). If you want to overlay your music over that, go for it.

3. "Easier to concentrate on your match". ... No. See 1.

4. "You can hear <list of sound effects> easier". The only one on that list that music is really going to affect is the C4 transferring. You're not going to miss any of the others unless you're straight up not looking at the screen. Also again, see 1, hype noise will drown it all out anyway. That said, I think this point is somewhat valid, but I don't agree that there are a significant enough number of instances in the game where it really matters.

5. "Less clash". This is basically the same point you were making as 3, and my response is the same.

Basically, the gist is that there'll be too much background noise for most of these to even matter, but you also made a bad assumption about how the matches were actually going to be recorded.

Now that I've explained why I think these reasons don't really apply to robocop, tell me properly why a majority of people just -wanting- music on is not a valid reason for having it on, since you were saying "nobody has made any real points" after countless people made this point in the robocop thread.

ROFLMAO. I don't want to respond to this for many reasons, but I just have to. A lot of people seem to say "The amount of noise from Rocky was insane, so at Robocop it will be even more", but Rocky was as loud as it was BECAUSE music was on every set up. Until you run a major with no music on, you won't know how loud/quiet it would be. While obviously I haven't been to a major with no music on, I know the amount of noise it would reduce would be enough to have it off.

but having music on does not make it harder to hear people talking to you, period,

This is easily one of the most hilarious things I have ever read. I don't even need to explain why.

I don't know how recording works, but the things said about recording were not said by me, they were said by Corpse, so
"but you also made a bad assumption about how the matches were actually going to be recorded." does not apply to me. I did however make a bad assumption in thinking what Corpse was correct, assuming what you're saying in #2 is correct.

For the record, I am no longer trying to convince you to have music off, for obvious reasons, I just think this is fun. :)

Imo, Rocky was loud 'cause of two reasons.

1. Sieg
2. Street Fighter/other games with health bars.

*Someone gets puched*
"OMG RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGAAAAASGHGGA".
Which prompted us, to be, louder.
Like the barrel spike.
Or Cao's turnip n-air stuff.

W/E, though.

Watching your brothers make complete idiots out of themselves is entertaining? Actually I can sympathize with that

Why are people trying to even respond with him anyway, it's obvious that he is just to ******** to see any reason -_-'

<3 Nova. Take me to the Casino with you guys, I've never gone gambling before.

Also I will be hyping up every hypable match. So expect to hear massive fits of spastic rage at the projector.

Unless I'm playing those OTHER loud games like SF4.

Seriously though, as I say before EVERY other tournament I go to, it's about having fun lol. I think I speak for most people when I say sitting in silence playing a video game OOS isn't really fun to me lol.

Lol. Tibs. No.
You're too Christian. <3

I don't rage well, at all. :(
Pretty sure I just sulk and get over it. Or make smart a$$ remarks.

Sieg & Kas both seem like they could outrage you, though Tibby.
Even though Kas doesn't seem to take anything seriously, including Melee yet he still beats everyone. That's how unragey you are, Tibor. <3

ugh okay ill bite,
since nobody is going to shut up about this anyway...
i will compile a list of the arguments for and against from a neutral standpoint

Reasons to have music on:

The ingame music helps to establish a loud, bustling and typical tournament atmosphere

People like the ingame music because:
a) it helps them focus
b) they are ****ing cool and like music
c) certain tunes contribute to the gaming experience by pumping up the players, again contributing to the atmosphere of competition overall.

The vast majority are used to or like having music on and have never seen a reason to turn it off or had a problem with music.

The difference between having the music on or off has arguably no influence/makes no difference to the result of said match making enforcing a rule such as this seem to be pointless.

Some people like their brawl vanilla. They just want the rules to be the same as always. I would argue that a major tournament is NOT the time to experiment with new and crazy rulesets, especially one with such prominent guests as m2k, hall and oats.

Personally i dont have an opinion on the matter but im just playing devils advocate since im assuming people arent going to shut up about this, ive provided justification in a language i think richard might be able to understand.
