Or its a low kick and your on the ground.
Retreating kick is also a thing.

If you go for a grab, they can reacg (since zelda is slow as hell)
Spacies will shine OoS or something and falcon will knee you.

And its not like you can get a grab off of a techchase with zelda...

So yea... It just seems impractical to me.

zelda's low kick is still about as punishable as a well-placed grab.

retreating kick forfeits stage presence.

don't get me wrong, me and all the other top zelda players of my day thought the same thing as you, but as you play against better opponent it's almost always best for zelda to stay grounded.

Yeah, staying grounded is critical against good characters and stage presence is extremely important if you're using zelda because if an opponent hit's you offstage you're pretty much gonna lose a stock.

Whenever I get grabs they're usually situational; in reaction to something my opponent did/messed up on like this and this. (and man those were some epic kick fails...and terrible matches...but I've improved since!)

And you can totally techchase with grabs! At least uh, sometimes you can? When they're just standing there? lol

So what's the consensus on Fox's u-throw vs Zelda

I get that it doesn't combo into anything but then being above Fox sucks

But Fox isn't as good as Falcon, Marth, Sheik, etc. at keeping people above him because his moves aren't quite as huge and his uair is SDIable

Just curious what the verdict is

I usually throw Zelda towards the edge or shine her to the edge and toss her off / d-smash / u-smash

But I'm interested in what you guys have to say

I would think that when you're near the ledge, fthrow/bthrow, or just getting her to the ledge/offstage is really good. Any time you can force her to upB is good. And she's really slow, so even just having her at the ledge is kind of like a free stock (hyperbole, but you know what I mean).

Center stage, uthrow is generally best, I think. Even if you can't uair her, you can bait things from her, and bair her landing attempts a bunch.

Can someone explain this to me? : http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=tLKLwupBUoY#t=273s

Cosmo uses Farore's, and lands on the edge of the left platform, and doesn't appear for a long time (longer than usual, it seems). Is this some sort of special phenomenon?

In case nobody checks the video thread I suppose I could mention I posted a new set.

We actually have another tournament coming up too, but I'm not sure if I'm going to make it.

green greens cp company?

Man I played melee friendlies yesterday for the first time in a while. It took me 4ish hours to get my techskill back. Idk how some people can stop playing for six months and then start playing again with perfect timing. Maybe I just haven't spent enough time with tech skill practice.

Apparently there are 4 or so newbies interested in playing smash who entered one of my tournaments 4 years ago. They actually live really close to me so this might get me back into playing.

Whenever I take breaks from smash I'm always way better than I was before I took the break since it feels fresh (temporarily) and my mindset is reset to a positive one. But then I start to regain bad habits and play unconsciously because the game gets stale and I don't feel like playing it at all.

Then switch characters or something.
It sounds like you're not engaging yourself enough.

Thats partially why I switched mains. Fox got too autopilot, but the ICs make me think because there are two of them and stuff.
So now I have more fun and the game isn't dull.

I didn't even realize that I was bored of fox until i messed around with other characters lol.

Idk, I'm exactly like soloist. Every time I stop playing for a few months I come back playing much better than before. All the bad habits disappear (although some come back with time of course)

I don't easily get bored because I like to play lots of characters. Also, every once in a while I'll even be up to play on wacky stages or turn on a few items, lol.

Though I'll usually get bored if my opponent isn't paying attention or doesn't care/isn't trying.

LOL yeah same here. It's all the other characters that get boring for me. I never really play zelda outside of tournaments but I'm sure I'd get tired of zelda really quickly if I did

Sounds like you just don't have anybody fun to play with then :/
I know I get bored if I'm not challenged enough.

Or you just don't actually enjoy the game, in which case: stop playing.
