I don't pay attention to teams except for WF, LF and grand. Everything else is kind of boring to watch.

Also I don't play them because my teammate never goes to tourneys.

Teams blows. Don't care for it to play or watch. On the contrary, I'd prefer if we got rid of teams all together. Events would run so much faster and smoother.
I generally like you Niko, but you're flat out ******** for this post man.

I just want to point out, to the people complaining that doubles should be the same price as singles; part of the reason this is put in place is because people generally don't like playing doubles as much as teams and thus the $15/10 entry fee isn't worth it. That's why venues like it. The higher the price the fewer entrants, in some cases, which means a lower fee is actually better. (Depending on how you look at it.)

I don't understand why anyone would call Niko ******** for not liking teams. I find that events run much smoother when you run singles first, and I imagine it would be even better without teams at all.

I love playing teams, I've just never had a consistent partner.

Maybe I should rig up a controller I could play with my feet and be my own teammate...

They would also run smoother if we just skipped Brawl.
Or why not skip singles and only do teams? =)

norcal takes teams pretty seriously, teams moneymatches are fairly common (often initiated by shroomed lol)

lol marth players
pewpewu!

wrt $5 per team instead of per person, i will try this out, but i'm skeptical of the effect on the pot/competition based on our typical turnouts/entrance patterns. unless more than the half the people are not entering teams the pot shrinks. while i never want tournies to be all about the pot, the $ provides the guys at the top extra incentive to team with the same person routinely. shroomed/alan basically always team (it shows), and the former wanting to win all the $ at the tourney is prob a big reason. he's extremely competitive and i know that is also a factor, but i think he'd freely admit he wants the $. this, along with some other fantastic teams players like sfat (and alan for that matter), raises the bar and it trickles down (supply side meleenomics in this *****)

$10 venue is gross for a local though. i feel bad charging $4

edit: i certainly get why a lot of people dislike teams. they don't want to hold someone back or to be held back. don't want to have to coordinate. the added dimensions make it more fun to me b/c it's more challenging

$5 per team is TOO low. At locals I think $5 singles and $5 teams is fine. My problem is with the larger tournaments not having a decent entry fee.

And yes Julian, I'll freely admit that I want the money hahah.

Me and Brandon are going to be static teammates now so we'll see who can take us out.

Having to work with another person is just too much for a majority of the community I guess. *shrug*
Although I do agree it can be somewhat difficult to have your teammate attend every single tournament you do, as well as OOS/OOC ones.

I think everyone should have a set of 3 or 4 teammates they regularly work with and go off that. Like what Hax does (Hbox, Jman, M2K); when one isn't available, you can just ask the others.

Having a set teammate is cool and all but its not always practical. "Practicing for teams" is a lot easier if you don't require one particular person to be present, but 3 or 4.

Teams = Amazing.

Just as fun as singles, although skill level gaps in teams can be dumb. I love watching teams too. Some characters need to be played COMPLETELY different than they are in singles and that definitely makes it even more interesting. Watching how players adapt to their partner, opponents and their own character. I just need to find someone local who's just as good as me to team with forever.

Well it's especially hard for someone like me to go OOC and then try to find a teammate so I'll pretty much never have a static teammate. Though I do like to experiment with different teammates and see what the results of the chemistry and teamwork will form. It definitely made me learn a lot especially for spacing since many times before I would hit my partner and with Ganon that's too deadly. I got forced to be more precise a lot faster than normal. And also I like to create war strategies with my ally to own the other team, it's so so fun to do that.

If so many people great players like teams so much they should start writing strategies for different teammates in the char specific boards. If you wanna reach the top, you need someone to stand on top of and it seems the lower class of player isn't as interested since it means taking away from their singles practice and having to find a team mate.

Rather than a team tier list which was made recently, we should definitely have a teams tier list. Like
Top
Fox Jiggs
High
Fox Peach
Sheik Peach
etc.

There are 26 characters in this game. There are 26*25/2 = 325 possible teams combinations. If there's really going to be a list for best team comboes, it'd be best if we stick with only the top 8-11 characters (28-55 possible teams)

I don't want every single match up lol, that would be too much. Just the best choices, if you gonig to pick what would be considered a low tier team you shouldn't need a list to tell you that yoshi and zelda are at a disadvantage vs. sheik and marth.

As for people building up teams in the character specific boards, really I just want to see best choices and useful tactics. If someone wants to pair with a pikachu and there's no info they can ask themselves for some help.

26*26/2 = 338.
The "top 8-11 characters" aren't so well defined in teams. A "bad" character might be good together with a certain teammate. It's possible (but not likely) that all characters are present in the top 13 teams =).

Both of you are a little off. There are 26 multichoose 2 possible teams. 26 multichoose choose 2 equals 27 choose 2, which is 27 *26/2=27*13=351.

If that explanation doesn't make you happy, here's another way of putting it. There are 26 teams in which both characters are the same. Let's count the teams whose characters are different. There are 26 options for the first character and 25 for the second. However, this counts each pair of different characters twice (for example, it counts both Fox and Marth, and Marth and Fox), so we divide by 2 and get 26*25/2=25*13=325. Thus, we have 325+26=351 teams altogether.

Well ajp could just come back with something along the lines of 2(26/2*180)^2/3 cause we're not gunna check either of these guys' math.

Yeah I didin't really think that through, haha =). Somehow thought that it would also give double counts for Fox+Fox etc, but it doesn't. Oh well...

I think what would be a lot more useful than a list of all teams, or even just top teams, would just be the original list being debated (single chars rated), and then a quick list for each chars of their best 'teammate chars'. This mostly seems useful to me for those interested in making a team. Say I want to play Pikachu in teams, but don't know what team might work for him. Further say I have three friends (potential teammates) who play Fox, Peach, and Jiggs. Turns out Fox + Pikachu is awesome, Peach + Pikachu is alright, and Jiggs + Pikachu is kinda bad. Now I know and can team with Fox friend! Thanks tierlist!

I realize for much of low tier it may turn into "add Fox or Sheik to your team for best results", but there's still some notable cohesion between certain low tiers and other chars that is unique to that low tier (and every char for that matter).

Actually, I'm kind of curious how Ness/G&W vs Bowser/Roy would go. I imagine it would go with Ness PK Flashing G&W's Oil Panic, G&W would be using it at full, Roy would counter it, and somehow Bowser is getting comboed during this.

:awesome:

The problem with that theory is that Axe and DJ Nintendo are the only people qualified to actually comment on what it's like for Pikachu to team with other characters at a high level. There's also way to many factors as far as synergy goes to even begin to assess what teams are good or bad. There's never been a high level Pikachu-Jiggs team with a lot of synergy, so how could anyone really say that team is effective or not?
