Well first off, I love the cover art
Not the best voice, like a more rough Offspring
While it sounds like everyone in the band is essentially competing for how much louder they can be than each other, the overall energy was fun and the tempo changes piqued my ear (don't know if that makes any sense lol). Also, the lo-fi transition at the beginning and end were good ways to enter and exit.

Wow, sorry, that's a terrible review
umm, 7/10

I would consider this more poetry than "song." I know he has "verses" and a "chorus", but even with him snapping to his fingers, it doesn't sound like much of a song. Then again, songs are meant to be based off poetry. With that being said, I liked this a lot. Really nice flow, and I like how he stays "in character" throughout the whole thing while doing it.

8.5/10

@LT, that link reminded me of a song off of Scott Pilgrim's Soundtrack lol. Song was about 3 seconds in itself.

I guess I was the only one who wanted to comprehend that song enough to post. :awesome:
The first minute of the song was absolutely insane, that synth at 0:39 is pretty awesome. I kinda wish the keys guy would stop screaming at the slow part, the tension building would've been even more intense!

I, like others, am not a connoisseur of that style of... guttoral... "singing", so those parts didn't quite please me as much as the rest of the song did; all-in-all, it was pretty enjoyable. When the vocals were cleaner, they and the keyboard added that juxtaposing serenity which is cool and effective. The musicianship was awesome (I really dig the last ~1:20).
the video itself was also intense.

For some reason I can't pinpoint, I didn't really like this Mogwai album. It has its moments, but overall it's definitely not one of my favorites of theirs.

This drums in this song seem overpowering to me in the beginning, and not exactly in a good way. The kick drum alone is louder than all the other instruments. Once the organ/other keys fade in it all starts to equal out nicely though. I feel like the buildup of this song is not quite as epic as it could be, mostly because the dynamic-less drum playing. Is that a drum sample? I know Mogwai uses those sometimes. I don't think it is, actually.

Decent song overall, but it doesn't really grab me for whatever reason. I like the screeching, rising guitar in the last minute a lot. The second half is much better than the first.

Oh god LT, an 8 minute song? WHY???

Nah I kid, it's a really sweet song. Something I'd expect to play in a movie when all things are good and well. This song would have been fine without the bass, but its inclusion makes it a bit more unique and sweeter.

After listening to this song, I definitely feel like I won something. When it got closer to the end, and the music in general got louder...it's really something nice to listen to in the background.

And I'm just gonna lay this out there, no one needs to put that Daft Punk "Derezzed for 10 hours" song for obvious reasons >_>...

I actually really dig this. While there isn't anything especially spectacular being offered, the band has an awesome feel about them. Almost like the Black Keys with a more interesting vibe. Really interesting, and I really liked all the vocals. I've already started looking more into this band, this is something I can get behind.

EDIT: Okay, I listened to Carnival Song, and I'm completely sold on this band, haha. Thanks for introducing me to them, theeboredone.

I have trouble liking his voice. Of course I don't know the language, but I've listened to my share of asian music, and I generally do like their voices. Almost sounds like he's sort of mumbling or dragging that "sh" sound too much for me to like it.

Overall, I don't think this song has anything special about it minus the lyrics. I like them a lot as they aren't super cheesy, and still have a lot of depth to them.

The production was alright, the singer was once again alright. I really dislike Kanye's voice for both singing and rapping, and I think he sucks at rapping regardless. Eminem is actually pretty good, but I am still rarely impressed with rap unless the production is something very different, which this one fails to accomplish. After all that, it was fairly catchy, and had a decently good feel to it.

A great example of "less is more", perhaps because where there are fewer moving parts, there is less chance for something to go wrong. The instrumentals were basic, the guy's voice was not bad. It was the lyrical content and probably also the vocal melody of the chorus that carried this song.

Awesome beginning. Love that silky guitar. Drums are tense.

Vocals are alright. They are well enough. I'm not a huge fan though.

The "heavy" chorus thing took me by surprise. It's cool.

Really like the second verse. I actually love the vocal melody and the haunting harmonies that come in.

I'm in love with the clean guitar tone. The bombastic ending is neat. The vocalist doesn't seem to have much range but he's got a pretty powerful yell.

it seems to kinda just go on though after that though, when it feels like "alright enough already". I feel like it should have ended on the big loud climax instead of petering out like that.

edit: oops forgot a rating

I love Nas. While I'm not fond of rappers bragging about their skills, it's okay if they do it once in a while. His flow is really nice in this song, and while his lyrics are direct about the hood and the things he saw/dealt with, they still carry depth and weight in them. The only thing I do not like is the beat...maybe cause it's an old song? Then again, I've liked a lot of old school rap songs before.

This beat is off the ****ing chain. I love how the hook is first interrupted by the first verse.

Verses are okay. I love the vibe of the song a lot more than the lyrical content. Great delivery though. Blu is chillll.

It's not my type of music, but I actually liked the transitions (except for the second one). It's something I'd probably listen to again, mainly for the instrumentals, not so much the lyricism.

Okay: Silversun Pickups - Three Seed
I occasionally hear good things about these guys but have never really checked them out. The vocals were unique but not annoying. The intrumentals were chill and enjoyable enough to get me to look up more stuff of theirs. It wasn't the most dynamic or complex song in the world, but they deserve some praise.

This is sexy. I like the weird keyboard patches in the beginning and throughout. I love PJ Harvey's voice and Josh Homme's harmonies are a really good fit for it.

It just sort of ends though. Still pretty great though, considering the Desert Session songs are all mostly written the day they're recorded.

I couldn't really get into the riffs in this song, but the chorus was just catchy enough to keep my attention. I kinda think that this album was FOB's last good one, but even this doesn't come even close to living up to what Take This To Your Grave was for them. :(

Alright been a while. This the song I'm rating since LT didn't give a score?

I like this. Not sure what kinda genre they would fit in, but I like the elements of hardcore in this guy's singing. He's not going all out in his screaming, so he's still singing and it sounds surprisingly pleasant. Only part I didn't really like was before the last chorus, where he does actually go all out in his screaming. Still, not a bad thing. Also has a nice flow to it. I'm gonna have to check out some of their other songs.

Though the lyrics are a bit cliche, but that isn't meant to be an insult.

I like the hook and the beat.

Royce's verse is goooooooooood. Passionate and raw as hell.

Not totally feeling the flow Em is going in with at first. When he gets going though, it's really good.

Overall, Royce killed it. Em was ok. Something about this song feels "incomplete". It feels like there should be another verse, at least.

I have tons of respect for their guitarist, the fact that he can play that riff AND sing perfectly live still boggles my mind. In regards to the song, I always felt that they could've made the transition between riffs in the bridge softer, it seems a bit pushed together imo. Other than that, this song is fantastic.

Oh geez, a 7 minute song. Makes me upcoming song feel like a ******. In any case, I was able to listen to this song the whole way without pausing once. It has a nice flow to it. I can tolerate the screaming, mainly because it doesn't last that long every time it shows up. Also blending singing with screaming makes it easier on the ears as well.

I will say that when the song slows down, I definitely prefer that lol. Though it does seem like this band, or song in particular enjoys using background vocals echoing from each other over and over. Not that it's a bad thing, but I think overusing it can get a bit meh. They should pick and choose their spots.

Overall a 6/10. 7/10 if I'm not sick and dealing with a headache :urg:

I can tolerate the screaming, mainly because it doesn't last that long every time it shows up. Also blending singing with screaming makes it easier on the ears as well.

I will say that when the song slows down, I definitely prefer that lol. Though it does seem like this band, or song in particular enjoys using background vocals echoing from each other over and over. Not that it's a bad thing, but I think overusing it can get a bit meh. They should pick and choose their spots.

Overall a 6/10. 7/10 if I'm not sick and dealing with a headache :urg:

7/10 its not bad and gives me a little bit of the old school oasis vibe which i like. But i am kinda cold on oasis atm and its still not equal to their old stuff

Also just want to add I really like the idea of this thread pretty cool.

Song is alright. Pretty monotonous though. Vocals seem like they would get annoying really fast.
