I had a feeling life wouldn't be so easy. Magus, can you send me what work you did on removing the dead frame from jumps?

The amount of effort you guys are putting into this is amazing. To those that are bashing it, go away.

I think i trialed a very early version of this with Almas, he mentioned something like this I think. It was surprisingly fun, slightly jerky in places and there were crashes but it was very fun indeed overall. iirc, ness was really good lol.
Am looking forward to this indeed, I'm hoping there's an easy way to play/download and is pal compatible because the last time i tried to get brawl+, I just got overly confused and gave up :/
Keep it up guys!

yep, we've got applications and programs and all kinds of junk to get this stuff off the computer and onto the sd card hassle-free

and if you havent bothered coming out from under your rocks in the past few months, you can load any brawl mod through the stage builder without any permanent chanegs to the wii.

so, anybody wanna try putting 2 and 2 together?

Alright.
I am now 100% behind this. I want me some pills, and weird mid-sword sweetspots, and (another) weird floaty pokemon.
Oh yeah, and everything else is good too.

With enough money and enough power, anything can be achieved.

1. Scar runs for President.
2. Every smasher pools in $100
3. Scar pays off whoever he needs to for Melee to get ported to Wii, with added courses, customizable settings, and some character balances.

4. The most important character balance - Yoshi. When he throws his egg from his up-B, he instantly becomes the egg (and is invincible). When the egg is cracked (by hitting someone or ending from natural causes), Yoshi emerges from the egg.

BOOM! BALANCED.

5. Another character balance - remove Jigglypuff from the game entirely.

BOOM! BALANCED.

6. Another character balance - when Kirby taunts to get rid of any powers he sucked up, the little star that flies out of him should have the knockback of a Rest if it hits someone.

BOOM! BALANCED.

7. Bowser's down-B should increase in power exponentially based on the height he is dropping from.

BOOM! BALANCED

I just imagined Scar as the president...only there were flames and bombs flying everywhere

1. How are you going to make Mewtwo? Or is Lucario similar enough to just tweak him to act M2?

2. How strong will Brawl's top tiers be with Melee physics?

3. What are some of your balance ideas to improve low tiers? They really aren't that bad and a couple small tweaks are enough to make some of them competitive. I would suggest making everyone's shield not suck, let Yoshi jump out of shield, straight up lengthen some recoveries... nothing too big

If you guys really do get it to point where it looks/feels just like melee where I can just plug my controller in and feel almost no difference while practicing tech skill, do you realize how impossible it is going to be to balance and how much drama and splitting of different communities it will cause? Its going to be impossible to regulate and get everyone to agree with balance changes and when its enough and when there has been sufficient time to test balancing the chars and when its time to nerf/buff characters. It will be the most drama ever smashboards might explode.
What they could do is once they feel the game is balanced enough for general release is to only rebalance on a strict timetable like every 3 years or so. By keeping such a long change between patches they avoid the FOTM class problem seen in MMOs.

This project has the potential to be better than melee.

Any thoughts on balancing items? If you put them on a precise timer and a specific spawn location it could add depth to the game.

What do you guys think about adding something like a super meter that when full lets the person use their final smash?

Melee being a good game has little to do with the high execution barriers. It would be nice to lower them a little so the REAL game is more accessible to people. Automatic L-canceling would be a really good feature. The important thing is to not remove depth, so an automatic wavedash wouldn't work because you want to go different distances at different times.

I bolded everything I disagree with.

Yeah, sorry Ryzol.

And they ARE making a PSA for Mewtwo but he just looks like a weird, Mewtwo textured Lucario with weird blocky moves.

And automatic L canceling will NOT be in. We've already been over that in the original P:M thread.

1. I personally made a Mewtwo already. It doesn't look like Mewtwo though, so its hard to identify him as such. Everything is more or less in place though.

2. Won't know until we get there.

3. If the lower tier characters were buffed going into Brawl, then we'll leave them as-is and see how it works out for them.

There is a difference between imbalance, and different tiers. Ofcourse imbalanced as a word in the gaming community is used as a power term to show how TOO **** GOOD something is, compared to something that is normal, or bad compared to it.

A game can be balanced, but still have different tiers, with using matchups etc

edit: A truly balanced game is mostly impossible though, I agree.

Doesn't Starcraft come pretty close?
Not quite, but a bit yes. There are still pretty dominant races in starcraft, it's just that for example:

Tier list:

A: A
B: B
C: C

Now immagine the top A tier can do something almost no one can get around, but the lowest tier, can actually counter that. Making him still a lower tier in MOST situations, but very viable to play, because most people play A tier, and he is the only one to get around it.

This way A gets screwed (in a sense) by C. Meaning that there are still overall tiers, but that there's also balance.

Yeah. The gaps in characters in P:M hopefully won't end up as large a gap as the one between Fox and Pichu. The problem is that once people know we can change things, they tend to abandon the creativity of naturally advancing metagames and just request exact changes for immediate effects.

We're going to try to avoid that as much as possible. =P

This project sounds amazing. I can't wait to see the results of all the hard work you guys are putting in. Good luck!

That's not really true for Starcraft.

Neither of the races directly counter each other, but given high enough player skill, all have actions which can be taken to either overcome or counter the other races' actions.

The main imbalances take place during certain times in the game, like Zerg v. Terran in early game, Terran can only respond to the actions Zerg takes while Zerg, for the most part, goes on the offensive/aggression. These imbalances eventually even out though and individual player skill determines who has the advantage and ultimately who will win in midgame or lategame.

Oh sorry if that was misunderstood, the tier examples wern't meant to be part of the starcraft part. They where supposed to be part of the tiers =/= balance part ^^;

The only thing about starcraft, except for some little basic things, is that it's really close to being balanced o__o;
