pools of 4 with top2 advancing?....thats gonna **** alot of people over..
How does it **** any more people over than pools of 8 with top 4 advancing? Its the same % of people advancing, and the good players are spread out through way more pools. Registration is over weeks beforehand so pools will be fair and distributed well.

Either way we will figure out the exact format closer to the date.

Actually Jon, smaller pools does **** over more people (sorry, but it's true). In general, smaller pools have worse seeding, and therefore require very very careful seeding. Larger pools do of course take much much longer (28 matches as opposed to 6 for 8 per vs 4 per), but careful seeding also takes time (not nearly as much).

My question is I guess, what was wrong with the Pound 2 system?

Pools of 6, top 4 advance (15 matches per pool)
Pools of 8, top 4 advance (28 matches per pool)
Bracket - 64 people

Was there any problem to this method besides time? Pound 2 ran right on time, so maybe this would be a good way to run melee, but Pools of 4 top 2 advance for brawl?

**Also, I know my model was based upon Pound 2 data, which only had 200 entrants (CMON PEOPLE, REGISTER). Of course brackets/pools will have to be modified based upon the number of entrants**

Just my 2 cents. Dont death seed me plox.

I booked 8 plane tickets for my players in Puerto Rico who are attending Pound 4, so we have 8 players confirmed. BTW, I dont play Smash, but I am the person who makes all the travel arrangements for the PR players (FAST1, Genesis, etc...)

While doing this, I requested an EVENT CODE with Airtran Airways for all the out-of-state players flying into BWI to attend the event. This EVENT CODE will give you a 10% discount on your fare, without taxes. I encourage everybody to use this code as I need to meet a number of people using the code, otherwise I have to pay for the difference.

Anyhow, here is what you have to do:

  • Contact the AirTran Airways EventSavers Desk at 1-866-68EVENT (1-866-683-8368) for reservations.
  • Provide the following Event Code: BWI011510
  • Provide the following Event Name: Pound 4
  • Provide the flight details or ask the customer rep to help you find the cheapest rate.
  • Once the cheapest rate is found, they will apply a 10% discount on the fare.
  • Provide payment info to customer rep
  • Enjoy your 10% discount!!!

If someone has any questions dont hesitate to ask me. Also, if someone needs help with finding flights or paying for it, let me know and I can probably assist.

Thanks.

Kasht

P.S. Can someone update the first post with the AirTran fare discount info?

That's kind of a cool idea. How many people would have to do it use the event code to get that 10% discount?

The 10% discount will already be applied when you purchase the ticket.

If I dont meet the quota, which is 10 if I remember correctly (i think if we meet 20 everybody gets priority boarding, and 30 the event code owner (me) gets a free roundtrip ticket), I have to pay a fee or the difference, whichever is lower. Whoever used the code by the event date gets the discount regardless, so you shouldnt be worried about meeting that number, I should! :)

Also, you can call and provide the info just to check for the fare price, no obligation to buy. That way you can verify what the cheapest rate is after the 10% discount and decide whether you wanna buy it or not.

Nah, let's have 3 rounds of pools. That's a large part of what made Pound 3 so epic. They shouldn't diverge from that formula.

pound3 finished at something like 4 am, and now you're doubling the amount of effective entrants (because you're adding a whole new game; people who enter both events would be counted twice when determining how many matches you expect to have played) while only adding one day

the "formula" needs to change as the parameters do
