"To be fair, Sony does apologize for the inconvenience."

Oh well then all is well in the world if they have apologised. Time to change passwords I suppose.

psn has been down for like a week. its not new news technically, its only today i think that they'd confirmed that details may have been stolen.

it never ends well for them.

not sure all it says on the website is that there will be more free content on the playstation store. who knows what that means loool.

* Each territory will be offering selected PlayStation entertainment content for free download. Specific details of this content will be announced in each region soon.
* All existing PlayStation Network customers will be provided with 30 days free membership in the PlayStation Plus premium service. Current members of PlayStation Plus will receive 30 days free service.
* Q Music Unlimited subscribers (in countries where the service is available) will receive 30 days free service.

Additional "Welcome Back" entertainment and service offerings will be rolled out over the coming weeks as the company returns the PlayStation Network and Qriocity services to the quality standard users have grown to enjoy and strive to exceed those exceptions.

exceptions*

Seems they're taking a negative and turning it into their advantage. That being allowing people to have a taste of PSN+ in the hopes they will like it and pay for it after the 30 day period ends.

In reality Sony did nothing wrong in direct relation to this

I wouldn't be suprised if this breach was some revenge clause by someone from anonymous/lunix monkeys but theres no solid links anywhere yet.

Based on what the evidence Sony and everyone else has, they believe no credit card information was stolen, but they are not 100% certain thus have advised everyone that it is possible.
Credit card companies are claiming they can find absolutely nothing fraudulant happening in relation to this.
The FBI have turned up nothing against sony as of yet.

The way I view it is an unfortunate event upon Sony, who can't exactly do anything to rectify this situation except for apologize and/or offer compensation. We all already know they will take better measures in the future to protect personal data.

To me it just feels like I've provided my basic information (which is already ****ing everywhere) to someone and now I receive a free month of PSN+ and more.

I'm happy with that.

I can agree on that note. My mum likes going through our garbage and cutting out all our details from letters and stuff "so people can't get it", but really, my details are ****ing everywhere already, and in all likelihood so are hers. I don't get it. As long as nothing was revealed in terms of abusable info (which from what I've read is not the case, assuming you don't use your psn password for everything else too), then cool. Sony gives you free stuff for essentially nothing.

Sucks to be Sony right now, but the situation in general is blowing over nicely.

Out of all the user bases to hack.. why PSN? I'd go for paypal >_>
If you could hack paypal, you may aswell hack some form of actual bank system through their e-banking, they're about on the same level with security.

PSN on the other hand... not exactly as well secured.

According to the PSN blog the free content we get will be a choice of 2 games from a list of 5 for ps3 users and a choice of 2 games from a list of four for PSP users.

Not too shabby, the games will prob be a crappy selection, but free is free amirite.

free is insulting when you're given bad choices

you feel so obligated to take them, even though you don't want them.

could you maybe get 1 for ps3 and 1 for psp?

Link plz.

I just hope they're expensive games. Doubt it though, since they're giving 2 free games to essentially 77 million customers.

Assuming all accounts are used and all.
