I want Jigglypuff gone simply because she doesn't really serve any purpose anymore. She's no longer that popular and she's from three generations back and not to mention she got nerfed like a mother in Brawl. If you ask me, there doesn't need to be 5 playable 1st generation pokemon and Pokemon Trainer's more important and unique by a longshot. I've been saying this since Brawl came out: Jigglypuff has basically been turned into a severally flawed version of Kirby.
I'd be interested to see you make a roster y;

Anyhow; Jiggly's still pretty popular, and she can be changed to be a better character (Like how ness's yo-yo is actually useful now) But I agree that we don't really need 5 movesets/3 PC Slots for the first generation. Maybe change PT To fit another generation or something. (Tho chances are he'll stay the same) - Really, both seem pretty unremoveable to me, so It comes down to who reps after the three first gens (ie New rep for 5th gen? Does mewtwo return? Does Lucario stay? etc)

I can't speak for Japan, but Jiggly certainly isn't all that popular in America. There are more people who want her out than in on this side of the Pacific. The only thing she has going for her is her appearance in the last three Smash games. And while an anonymous "They" is fine for most things, I'm pretty sure roster decisions come down to one man: Masahiro Sakurai (Or possibly a new director in the case of SSB4). If Sakurai thinks Jiggly shouldn't be in, she won't be in.

Sakurai has talked about entitlement of characters. Meaning that there is an element of deservingness in the creation of the roster. Admittedly, we don't know his criteria, so we can't say whether Jiggly will live up to those criteria or not. He may consider her Smash career justification for a reappearance. He may also decide that the 'puff's time is past, and kick her off the roster.

Do I think Jiggly will leave? No. But it's a possibility, and far more likely than an entire roster full of clones.

Man, I haven't made a roster since probably 2007. My tastes have changed a little bit so I'd have to think about it. I'll try to get back to you on that.

I realize Jiggly's chances of leaving are pretty much non-existant but, if I got anything out of how Jiggly played in Brawl, it's that she was put in begrudgingly just to give the players another character.

I really don't know what to say towards Pokemon. I think bringing Mewtwo back would be counter-productive simply because, from what we've seen so far, the developers don't like like to severally change they've already completely made. Yes, characters are made better and some are made worse but no one has severally changed since their introduction into Smash Bros. For example, Mr. Game and Watch got a huge overhaul in Brawl with his priority, knockback, and hitboxes but, all in all, only one move was completely changed (his nair) and several were given new properties (uair, B up, dthrow, and dair) but they're appearance remained mostly the same. Not only was Mewtwo a bad character but he had a incredibly bland moveset for (even 8 years later) being in the top 3 strongest pokemon in the Pokemon franchise. About half of his attacks involved using his tail...

Like with Mewtwo, Lucario's grown on me but I fully realize that he'll probably be replaced by the most popular anamorphic Pokemon in the 5th generation so there's really no crying over spilled milk in that regard.

@ Xyro:

I think they'll find a practical solution given how important Smash Bros has become to Nintendo. I see it like what happened with online; Sakurai said it was going to be retardedly hard for a game like Smash Bros to work online given Nintendo's current wifi capabilities but they went ahead and not only did it anyway but added a decent number of features despite Nintendo having infamously craptastic wifi. With that being said, if keeping Gamecube controls (or at least controls) is important to the fans and they're vocal about it, I'm confident that it'll happen.

Proof or It didn't happen. Also as toise says (Which I see quite often) A complained thing about brawl was cut veterans; You really think cutting one who's been in all games, not rushed with no insane reason to cut would be good? And then it comes down to who you're cutting her for. Assuming the series stays at four reps, Mewtwo or Lucario and a 5th gen rep?

...Yeah; It just doesn't really seem likely (Unless there's a new director; which I'll get onto later)

Oh yeah, iirc she's also the second most popular poke'
The only thing she has going for her is her appearance in the last three Smash games.
This is actually a major point now. Fan satisfaction. (And don't say they couldn't changed her; They changed ness in all 3 games. Nuff said)

And while an anonymous "They" is fine for most things, I'm pretty sure roster decisions come down to one man: Masahiro Sakurai (Or possibly a new director in the case of SSB4). If Sakurai thinks Jiggly shouldn't be in, she won't be in.
Uh, no. It comes down also to developer's (hi ridley, hi sukapon. how's life as a sticker and a boss?) And in the case of Third-Party's (Geno, Megaman, Travis, and any other character you can pull out not owned by nintendo) It comes down to legal rights.

...But since there's nothing wrong with her legal status or programming, I won't get into that. If sakurai thought she was worth it THREE Times, why would she get the boot now?

Do I think Jiggly will leave? No. But it's a possibility, and far more likely than an entire roster full of clones.
Far more? You make it sound like booting her isn't a stretch. I'm just saying ANYTHING That is first party is a possibility with that point. Of course the possibility of her getting booted is more, but It doesn't seem as if It'll happen.

Heck; Outside of Pika and PT, It all comes down to popularity. Jiggs is still known. Jiggs is a hooked-on frame to smash. Jiggs is a unique moveset. 1st Gen overpopulation is however something I agree with.

And to be personally honest; I don't even care for her being back in. If she's back in then great, If not then I surely hope they got someone unique to take her spot, and If anyone's to be removed from the 12 veteran's of smash, It's her, but It's not a likely possibility.

Man, I haven't made a roster since probably 2007. My tastes have changed a little bit so I'd have to think about it. I'll try to get back to you on that.

Do it, also tell me when you get a messenger, but anyhow...

I personally see where you're coming from, but attack's power's have been changed (Ness; Changed all three games. I don't know how many times I'll have to bring this up before the end of this discussion) And simply putt, If they nerfed her, they can easily change her again.

I really think that If mewtwo should be brought back, It should be DLC. It seems like it was something the developer's tried to force to work (Yeah, half of his attacks involve his tail...lol), and asides from the anime he's not really insanely important. As much as I enjoyed Joy Mech Fight and want to see Sukapon as playable, If the developers have to go out of there way and whatnot to do it, I'd rather see Sukapon not appear as playable...And to go on about this, If they put in a character difficult to program, I'd want it to be something more new (Sukapon, Ridley, E...Oh you guys have heard this before)

And really, with Jiggs PT And Pika not leaving, we already have 3 1st gen (debateably five) reps...Do we really need anymore from 1st gen? I mean I'm not a big poke' fan or anything, but I'd like to see more variety outside of pokeballs.

Lucario...This one depends on If he keeps his popularity and how many poke reps there are. This I would just rather like to see as DLC If we get Downloadable Content.

And of course 5th/6th/whoever far they've gone gen rep is basically obvious as a newcomer.

Right behind you with a knife.
Jigg's moment of faith I think was Brawl. In it she had to beat out Mewtwo for the last Pokemon spot, and that's what she did. I very much doubt that she'll get cut at this point, especially for Mewtwo. She's been in since the begining, and I think that's how it may stay.

As for the GCN controller thing, we're probably going to lose them in the next console, and that's simply that. It just doesn't make sense to make them compatible for the next console. Now of course we don't know what the technical controls for whatever the next system are going to be either, but whatever they happen to be, we'll probably get something that is akin to traditional controls.

Maybe I should make myself a little more clear. I haven't actually said this, although I meant to. I'm not talking about Sakurai deciding right off the bat "I want Jiggly out", I'm talking about Sakurai last-minute saying "Well, I've got time for either Jigglypuff or Character X" and deciding to go with Character X. Not replacing her, just getting axed for time constraints.

And I'm prety sure Sakurai makes the roster decisions himself. I'm not sure what you're trying to say about Ridley and Sukapon. It sounds like you're saying that other developers wanted Ridley and Sukapon as a boss and a sticker, so Sakurai didn't put them on the roster. Which I doubt was the case. And which I doubt you think was the case. Clarification please?

How do we even know that there was a time issue with brawl? It certainly seems as there wasn't, considering Sakurai decided the roster for brawl way back in 2005. It COULD Happen, but It doesn't really seem likely at all. (Especially for another first gen rep)

No; I'm saying Sakurai may have wanted them playable (ie "We tried to work Sukapon but we couldn't) But the developer's were like "Hey, this isn't really gonna work/take too much time" And so sakurai goes "Ok, Ridley shall just be a boss and we'll throw another Samus moveset for Metroid fans, along with an extra stage and stuff" I mean, It's not like he didn't want ridley/sukapon at one point, especially when the developers tried to make it work at one point.

That's what I mean by "The Programming Issue" - Sure It's mainly sakurai (As far as we know), but other things happen at certain points preventing a character.

It's irrelevant to the jiggly discussion, but It's relevant to how roster's are made.

Ridley is more or less a case of not knowing how to go about making him playable or at least that's what I got from the interview shortly after GDC 08 where he talked a little about him. For example, one of the reasons why Metaknight and Pit weren't in Melee was because they didn't know how to properly incorporate "flying" characters into Brawl's gameplay without giving them too much of an advantage or straying too far from how the characters are in their respective games. If Ridley was playable, it probably be the biggest character and have obnoxious good range and strength and, if anything, I think he's still in the process of trying to decide how to balance out the character without going against the character's character, you know what I mean? A small Ridley or a weak Ridley just won't be right.

It seems likely that there was a time issue because:

a) The game kept getting delayed. I don't really see any reason to delay a game that's finished and possibly the most anticipated video game of all time. Only a sadistic ****** would do that.

Well, actually that's pretty much it. One could argue for the Forbidden Seven being evidence of such, but they could have just as easily been rejected characters.

Well, yes, some characters are restricted by programming issues, but Sakurai is still making the decisions.

Like I said, I don't really care for Jiggly one way or the other. I'm just trying to get people to acknowledge that she's not a lock.

-Delays were most likely to make more copies. They really easily could've just been rejected.
-It just means he isn't 100% In control. If he was 100% In control he could basically add in whoever the heck he wants completely. Nabral is now a shoe-in

...Yeah, no. Thankfully he has care for the fans.

But anyhow; Jiggs isn't all locked in, but her chances are really high up there. If any newcomer from brawl is to be removed, My bets are on one (or both) of the Third-Parties or Lucario

He could be extremely slow? (see: charizard) It still however falls under programming issues. I can totally see where that's coming from still, because the only disadvantage I can think of is extremely slow...Maybe less range or something else.

Still; I'm just pointing out that It's not completely up to Sakurai (mostly is, not fully)...Still hoping for sukapon anyways. (key:hoping, not expecting)

 @ Jiggs hate.

True but they have counters based on their swords, their swords (ikes) can be charged with a crazy flaming thrust to the ground...... what will mac do charge up his punch? Sounds like dk to me
I made a quick special set. Perhaps this'll give you a different outlook on Mac's potential.

Note: Much like PKMN invisible stamina meter, Mac will have a fatigue meter where spamming one [special] move will over exert Mac, causing him to flash purple. He'd be unable to use specials for a short amount of time.

B - Star Punch
Works similarly to the star punch in Punch-Out!!, in that there's a star meter involved. The more you throw out attacks, the quicker you'll generate a star. You'll be able to use this move once a single star is generated. The more stars you generate (three tops), the stronger the punch.

Up B - Star Uppercut
Mac will hop a little off the floor if used on ground level, e.g. just like the assist trophy. Using it while in the air will send Mac traveling significantly farther.

Down B - Footwork
An evading tactic. Bobbing and weaving is something real boxers tend to do. Mac even does it in his own games. Mac will bob and weave, duck and shift to evade an attack. He can only evade some standard attacks and some specials. Since it's quick, visually it would probably look something like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t06FpmDM1nM&#t=10m17s

Over B - Dash Rush
Take a look at the vid I linked for Star Uppercut once more. Notice the dashing uppercut? This move will be like that, but instead of a uppercut, it will be a straight. Holding 'B' will do a dashing cross. Tapping 'B' repeatedly will do a dashing flurry.

He could be extremely slow? (see: charizard) It still however falls under programming issues. I can totally see where that's coming from still, because the only disadvantage I can think of is extremely slow...Maybe less range or something else.
Slow... on the ground... makes sense. In the air, he should be quick but not as strong (aerial moves won't be as powerful as smash attacks). That way, people will tend to take to the air with Ridley because he'd be more mobile. They'd only be on the ground to deliver a slow finishing move, i.e. tilt or smash attack.

Also, since he'd be the biggest/widest character, he would need quite a few disjointed hitboxes, e.g. tail, wings, top of head, etc. That, and knockback resistance (super armor) for certain attacks. He needs this to be competitively viable.

@scooby: I stand corrected. So you're proposing that there would be an in game star meter just for him? Still ill probably only use him a few times just to try him out then move on

You bring up a good point. This really is something that people need to be start emailing Nintendo about. Actually... *thinks about it* shouldn't the virtual console on the next system be powerful enough to support gamecube games? If that's the case, they'll probably re-release the gamecube controller which would make the transition even easier than it was from Melee to Brawl.
Or you could just go with the new controller and move on from there. It's not like the GC controller is the arcade stick of Smash. Speaking of which, I wouldn't be surprised if the arcade stick became a standard choice. It wouldn't be to hard to adjust to like Street Fighter or other fighting games that involve more execution skills.

Series that need to be represented

(1)"Punch Out" represented by little Mac, the people who say that is he would turn out as a boring character see this post http://www.smashboards.com/showpost.php?p=8583711&postcount=26487.

(2)"Golden Sun" Represented by Issac of course, characters. Another sword user, plus he has more at his disposal.

(3) "Sin and Punishment" represented by Saki and the other main character in the second intallment. More unique sword users wouldn't hurt, plus he has blaster. He would be swift, and agile.

(4) "Advance Wars" I wouldn't know who could represent this series in smash since there are alot characters to choose from. Maybe they could use Snake as a blue print for a character militant design, or just create their the character from the ground up which I would prefer; because they sure did do it with Captain Falcon.

Im going to just throw this character out there since I don't care to much about popularity.

(?) Throw Hayabusa in from in "Pro Wrestling" that was on the NES. Why do I say Hayabusa; I would like to see him Suplex Mario and the others into the ground. For the people who are saying that this guy would be a boring character; Im sure the SSB4 production team will come up a creative moveset for this guy. Basically the same thing that said with Little Mac, look at other games http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dwaFiLoALYI#t=1m39s. Im not saying steal movesets from other games, but look what others can do to make a character fun to play.

The reason for me listing some these characters would be because I would like to have some new and original characters to pick from in "SSB4" if this game ever comes out.

As long as the controls aren't as clumsy feeling as the virtual console controller, then it should be fine. I think Xyro's concern comes from how the GC controller has been the competitive standard for 8 years now.

I was GOING to post a list of the top ten most popular pokemon, as of now.
BUT, being that google is so bent on getting sidetracked I can't find an Official one.

I know that Mewtwo is on it, as is Charizard (So I've heard) but I can't find it.

If someone else can track it down, please post.

I wish we could just see the Most popular pokemon from every gen playable, excluding legendarys.
I could imagine it looking something like this: (Pikachu deosn't count)

Pikachu
Charizard
Tyranitar
Absol
Lucario

To me, that would rock. But Not excluding legendarys, it would be better:

Pikachu
Mewtwo
Celebi
Deoxys
Lucario (the legendary pokemon of the fourth gen are too uber)

But the actual roster will look something like this

Pikachu
PKMN Trainer (Squrtle, Ivysaur, Charizard)
Jigglypuff
5th gen rep
Mewtwo or Lucario, likely Lucario.

I'm wondering if the GC controller being a standard is a bad idea. Considering that Nintendo has never had the same controller for more than one generation save this one, we need to have some standard that will stand the test of time like the arcade stick. Overall, I think an arcade stick would be nice. It's difficult to adjust to at first, but then it becomes second nature and your execution will improve.

Here's a picture for those who are curious regarding the arcade stick.

Of course some things would have to be remapped.

The order for Smash would be:

BYL
AXR

Your thumb would be on A almost exclusively.

How would the gamecube controller be a bad idea? They could release a improved version with some added features, like how Microsoft and Sony do with their console controllers.

What do you want? maybe a couple of added buttons, not to much. A more of a sleek control design. I know they can add a button on the opposite side of the Z button so there will be two shoulder buttons.

If another Punch-Out!! character where to make it in, wich isn't likely, but possible, then who would it be?
Use logic, don't just name a random character.

I think it would be Bald Bull, I believe he is the most reacurring character.
I could see him fighting Bowser, and it looks beast.
Bald Bull also represents a rival, sort of speak.
I know Sandman is "The Antogonist" but I believe Bull is more well known.

Improved GC controller would be cool I guess, but you know it won't happen, with the direction the Wii took, We might get an advanced Wii controller though

Hero Dude, PO #2 would probably be King Hippo (I don't want another I barely want Mac) He's most known due to PO Wii I think

Probobly so. I wasn't thinking about Hippo. It is pretty close between the two.
Mac will almost definantly be in Smash 4.

As you can all see, I am a pretty big PO fan.

How would the gamecube controller be a bad idea? They could release a improved version with some added features, like how Microsoft and Sony do with their console controllers.
The problem is that I doubt that Nintendo would do that sort of thing in the first place. Nintendo's not known for doing that kind of thing except for the Gameboy.

Yeah nintendo has never really taken cues from other companies. They always try to go in their own direction. If they didn't we probably wouldn't have the wii today

I see this as a double edged sword. On one hand, Nintendo has given us some amazing stuff, but they seem to have a mentality that they think they know what's best for us.

The FE comment means that like in Melee we'll get two from the same series appear together the first time that series has had a PC. FE was the first to do that and only if I'm right

Oh, well punch out is a series that was just saved from a dark abyss called "Retro" and is now "New" wich IMO deserves an FE to be pulled.

Smash can not be done with an arcade stick. An arcade stick is not analog. A gamecube controller's analog stick can tell between many different positions. This is how it can tell the difference between a strong and Smash attack. An arcade stick can only tell two directions: natural and what ever direction your going for.

If your talking about a widely accepted one, then the Gamecube controller is just that.

Hmm... I've been thinking about how to "balance Ridley" for the past hour and these are some options I've thought of.

1. "Wreckless Ridley"- Some of his attacks are so powerful that they hurt him (like Pichu in Melee) and/or they severally slow him down for awhile whether they hit or miss (like Hyper Beam in the Pokemon games).

2. "Fatigue Ridley"- As Ridley takes more damage, the slower he becomes and his jumps become shorter.

3. "Hovering Ridley"- Ridley's Up B attack puts him airborne and he can fly around like Peach's hover. The downside is, while airborne, he can only go back on the ground by using his B down attack which causes him to crash down onto the ground (like his attack in the SSE) and he can't use his jumps. Also, as time goes on, he sinks down lower until he touches the ground or falls to his death if he's over a pit. He can also only use aerial attacks and use special attacks cause him to sink down lower.

Any thoughts on the issue?
