Stop trolling/flaming, people.

Also, are there really no more questions for me now that I'm here for the moment?

My ego...It's OVER 9000!
I'm going to respond to these two posts because they kind of go hand-in-hand.

What we see here are two players arguing that the bar be lowered to cater to people who don't necessarily win.

Let me say it again. What Jack and Flan are endorsing here is that because X amount of people can't realistically stand a chance against top Metaknight players in tournaments, we should simply ban him. "It's whats' best for the community!".

They are advocating that we, as a competitive fighting game community - emphasis on competitive fighting game - make it easier for players who aren't as skilled. It should be obvious to anyone with a brain that this is the antithesis of competition for competition's sake. It has now become not about skill - about seeing who's the best, who has put the most time and dedication in - it's become about something else.

This is just a rephrasing of the "fun" argument. "But it's not fun!". "MK is destroying variability in tournaments!". "He's killing the metagame!".

Let's talk for a little bit about competitive fighting games.

Competitive gaming is meant to be fair to players, not characters. Since everyone has the option of choosing any character, MK is just as viable a strategy for you as for your opponent. It’s still fair to all players. Nobody is forcing you to pick any other character.

If all players have the right to choose an inferior option, it's still fair. Otherwise, don't play Brawl competitively.

Competitive fighting games are not about always being able to play as your favorite character. There are many match-ups in which you have to pick up a secondary or just switch mains altogether to stand a chance of winning. This is one of those circumstances. Competitive fighting games are not about playing as your favorite character no matter what, it's about playing to win. People who play as Metaknight obviously hold playing to win more important than playing as their favorite character.

If you insist on playing specific characters despite their bad match-ups, be our guest. Just don't demand things be banned to make match-ups easier. I didn't whine when Kirby was nerfed into infinity in Melee; I just immediately switched mains. This is the reality of how competitive fighting games work.

This is the deal, folks. If your character has bad match-ups, counterpick or switch.

As far as banning MK for metagame health / variety. Why ban this to ensure more variety and not other things that would also ensure more variety? Why make the arbitrary decision to ban one thing for the sake of variety, yet not ban other things, such as other chaingrabs, locks, quasi-infinites and infinites, characters, etc.?

For diversity, why draw the line at characters? What's the reasoning behind this?

People can't just make up arbitrary ban criteria if it is valid for banning other things as well, ban it and then go "Oh, we won't ban those other things because we just dislike this one thing a lot". That's not objective at all, that's subjective bias where you arbitrarily ban things just because you don't like them.

Oh and we should also ban brawl, because, you know, it's just so unfair. There are so many unwinnable matchups!

We should also ban Melee, and SF, and you know, just about every fighting game, because they had, you know, unviable characters and bad matchups. God forbid people be forced to CP when they want to play their favorite character, so yeah ban all that stuff.

And lastly I think we should ban life, because it just isn't fair, and anything that's not fair shouldn't be allowed to exist and should be banned.

As for Metaknight's tournament dominance:

How many top spots must a character occupy before said character becomes worthy of a ban?

How great a gap must there be between the best character on the tier list and the remaining characters before said character becomes worthy of a ban?

What is the specific criteria used in pro-ban's reasoning for getting rid of Metaknight?

Can this criteria be saved and applied in future situations?

These are questions that the pro-ban camp needs to answer.
"We should no longer discuss other characters on this site, only MK because he is the best choice in winning and becoming the best. You are NOT a competitive player if you don't do this." -RDK

Both sides are being aimed at think like this 'cause I know anti-ban aren't all MK players. And please stop making generalizations like "Ban _ if _ should be banned" 'cause banning anything compared to banning MK is completely different and would have much different results. It's stupid talk. :samus2:

How much stagnation do you think there needs to be as a direct result of MK for you to support a ban? And what sort of evidence would convince you of just that- that MK alone is halting forward progress?

It's likely I won't have a very detailed response to your answer, by the way, as I'm really just curious what you have to say about this subject. (I'm not asking to debate you. xD)

$100 bucks is nothin.
He just made $1,500.00 AT LEAST in a tourney about two weeks ago. Oh yeah, a hundred bucks ain't nothing if you see it in a 1/15 point of view and compare it to his actual winnings.

And what's there to say at the matter at hand? No one's changing their mind, we're all just going around in circles, and a couple of misinformed individuals are appearing here and there only to be shut up embarrassingly by others. Where's the actual discussion? I want to keep reading the good people's posts...

That is of no importance!

@Omni - How do you feel about ledge grab limits and anti-scrooging rules? I'm not entirely certain of your stance, so I'm quite curious!

I made a few posts recently... I thought they were okay and weren't really shot down.

Anyway, intelligent discussion doesn't travel at the rate of 900 posts in 40 hours (that's about what we've done so far). Not online, anyway. People who have intelligent stuff to say about the matter generally 1. already made up their mind a while ago, and 2. already made their intelligent post a while ago.

There ARE still good posts, but the randoms are much more numerous at this point.

The majority of posts on any forum are basically some contest to show which side has more people resolved to make their opinion look better. You have to look harder to find the posts with facts, hard data, and proper logic, or maybe something new.

Mostly, you'll see people being emphatic about their negative opinion of, say, a character, or of another poster, or of everyone in the world who plays Brawl and didn't either play MK or win Pound4.

And occasionally you'll see really wierd people who post about what it is that people are posting about and why. Look at me, I'm metagaming with my metaposting on the metaknight metathread!

Metaknight/Marth pairings are still being debated, and I must say MK has no chance.
Ok, so by opening my mind and absorbing everything you've said, I can deduce that...

You suck horribly at this game, know nothing about anything, and are just here to interrupt people and attract attention to yourself. All of this is emphasized by the fact that you'll probably challenge anyone who says "you suck" to a quick match on Wifi and spam across Final Destination with Pit's arrows, then spam dsmash when you get close enough thus earning you a quick victory and making you feel like you could take on anyone. And the way you disregarded 1.5k bucks as nothing only shows that you're trying to win any and all arguments done against you for whatever defensive reason you have backing you up.

Just shut up and leave, you're not needed in the "Official Metaknight Discussion". Right when you said "Metaknight", "lose", "average" and "Marth" in that same order within that sentence with no shadow of a doubt that you are right and the whole community is wrong, I knew you were new to the competitive scene, but I didn't know there was such arrogance behind that monitor.

Troll or no troll, you receive no salutes from me.

EDIT: Sorry, Crow, I meant no disrespect. I meant since this whole off-topicness started.

Trolling? Look I'm actually being SERIOUS. But just name a few disadvantages so I can see what your saying.

@ kewkjy: Your sad. You obviously just discribed your playing style, and I'm not new to the competitiveness. Really, you take things to seriously. Arrogant? Me?

snake loses to MK, DDD, marth, and wario IMO, and has numerous even matchups

I really don't see how people compare him to MK, I don't even consider him second best...

MK has a better recovery, safer killing options, better damage racking, is better at gimping, a lot of his moves have better range, and I'm sure there are some other things I'm forgetting.

etecoon, Snake does not lose to Marth.

But some of Marths moves are faster and some get MK stuck. Oh, and MK getting back on stage with a Marth waiting...ouch.

Snake against Marth= Marth

this and other stuff about meta has been explained many times, and for over a year.

There is no point to feed a trolling/spamming idiot to try to sound/be funny and show on on the net. Let this nonsenses go and add him on ignore, thats what I did. He'll get tired and leave or the mods will stop being lazy and bann him.

Funny how they were straight about being on topic and wanted to dish out points for a talk on Peach Vs IC yet they allow this nonsense.

As I said before, this thread is pointless and going around in circles. Never ending cycle everytime one is made. With the planking and the gay grab meta can do and get away with and has been shown/proven for about 2 years now, people still have to second guess something. And still ***** about it. From the start ofd meta till now, there should be enough evidence on if meta should stay or go.

And while I am against the bann, I'm starting to think meta getting the hell out of here for a while would be a good idea and prove a point.

And one more thing. with all the stuff meta can do, him being the best in the game, and him having the ability to plank, etc. I don't see how the info and data on why she should stay is beating why he should go.

Nope.
MK got more moves that start in 4 frames than marth does.
MK's best kill move starts at frame 5, Marth's, frame 10 (unless you think his dsmash is his best kill move, which is solid, but not his best, and starts on frame 6 iirc)

Nothing gets MK stuck.

MK getting back to a stage with Marth waiting is nothing compared to Marth getting back to the stage with MK edgeguarding him.

From here on in, you will probably be ignored due to your obvious ignorance, which is ok if you're new. Just stay out of this discussion, it's not for you.

MK's Uair comes out in 2 frames. Marth has nothing that fast. I'd like some examples please.

MK can easily recover vs. Marth. Just go under the stage.

Snake against Marth= Marth
Marth gets outranged, and since he's fairly light, Snake can kill him early with Utilt. Snake's zoning is a problem for Marth, as is his range.

Again, please defend your arguments, don't just say ****.

Some of MK's moves are designed to throw opponents out of the stage, where he can then follow them outside and keep sending them away farther and farther. MK has his tornado, which he can use to catch Marths who are falling from very high altitudes. MK has his uair, which starts fast and ends fast, and can combo into itself making for a very nice damage-racker. MK can hit/kill Marth once then run away the entire fight, and Marth can't do anything about it. MK is faster than Marth on the ground, fallls faster than Marth, shorthops lower than Marth (which is good for his aerial needs), and attacks faster than Marth in the air.

Oh, and MK getting back on stage with a Marth waiting...ouch.
What if MK grabs the ledge? What if MK uses some of his many jumps trying to make Marth throw out an attack and miss, then grabs the ledge? What if MK does a sideB to the ledge from pretty low? What if MK glides over/under the stage? What if MK uses his tornado to go straight through a Marth that just missed an attack, and right onto the stage?

What if MK is the one waiting for Marth to get back on-stage?
