I read Ted's post, but all I saw was
HYPE

Also, did I hear something about a PR update after this tourney? =O

If I'm not working I can come to this tourney.

If you guys are cool with someone you've never met coming, that is.

I've met Toby in person, but that's it.

I still feel awkward meeting up with people I've never met before. At least it's at a venue, and not just a small meet at a house, that'd be even more awkard.

If I go I'll make sure to wear my Gengar shirt so someone recognises me when I'm wandering around lost.

You going to the tourney Leish? I doubt it because you're from Melbourne.

I'm going up to sydney the weekend after for rickys birthday, so not this time. If i told ted earlier, he could've had the tournament next weekend xD. Oh well though.

I felt a little bit scared when I went to my first tournament, and i also expected more girls to be there aswell but I was alone. lol.

I don't know why you would have expected girls to be there.

90% of all smashers that I've ever seen in a picture or video have been scrawny or chubby pasty teenagers.

I'm not exactly endearing myself to the smash community am I.

Edit- Wait does Ricky live in Sydney or are you just celebrating his bday here? And if you say 'yeah we have a long distance relationship but we make it work I'll say '***** please, I dated an American girl'. Because I totes did. And we went to Melbourne for a couple of days funnily enough.

Yeah I was nervous when I was going to my first tournament then I realised it was okay cause JP is a teapot.

Evening all, it's time for teapots I guess.

Here is a special teapot for Ricky.

Finding some masterpieces which I haven't seen before.

Don't look at meeee.

And I'm done, enjoy the tournament guys. Even though I can't go I should still be on the PR, slightly behind Toby, but still ahead of Andrew.

Sorry Tedeth, I apologise if you fit that stereotype, or to anyone who does.

Besides, I never implied they were bad people or anything.

Edit- You guys are making me feel like tea now. Damn that **** is good.

You seem to fit the stereotype of a massive loud mouth who doesn't think before they speak.

Making any implications about any of us before you meet us would be a bad idea.

I said 90% of smashers who I'd seen pictures/videos of were X. So seeing that's what someone who has never been to a tourney sees before going to one, I found it surprising that someone would expect a lot of girls to be there at their first tourney. That was my point, not that the scene actually is 90% X, or that no girls would be there, or that that is is a bad thing.

But you're right, if I realised that would have offended someone I wouldn't have said it, so I apologise. Also I'm not a loudmouth. I actually scored really high on the introversion scale in the Meyers-Briggs test, and I can't stand it when people are loud in public.

Saying 90% of smashers you've seen are X is fine.

Saying "I'm not endearing myself to the community" however indicates that you see it as something that could be taken offensively, but you couldn't care less.

This was actually the stupidest thing you said though. Like. Every part of this just reeks of stupidity, which is something I don't have a high tolerance for.

Sorry champ.

EDIT: Also I am ENTJ so I will judge the **** out of your internalising ***.

Srry Dre, but I'd be more careful about what you're saying on the boards. Yes, I'm currently in a long distance relationship with Ricky. Although in your case you're comparing it to someone who lives in another country, so of course it would be immensely hard to work out. (Since you'd require censorship and crap) I'm actually shifting to sydney after I finish my management course and car licence. So yeah, please dont make assumptions with my relationship please.

Also I do have family up there as well I visit every 2 months.

What what? I never said a long distance relationship was too hard to work through or that it was bad or anything like that.

Arrghhh, I think I'm just going to give up on talking. I keep accidently annoying people and mispresenting what I'm trying to say, and making myself look like a **** in the process. Soz guys.

Actually, he phrased it as a question, so rather than something like "I am doing x, so deal with it", to me it sounds more like "I'm worried that I might be doing x, and acknowledge that I probably am."

Everything I've read Dre say so far sounds a lot like he just wants to socialise, but doesn't know how to phrase his thoughts properly. I can respect that difficulty, as I'm sure you can imagine.

Also, INTJ reporting in.

This is almost exactly what I would say.

ENTJ apparently (although it's only 1%, 25%, 25%, 56%)

You're pretty much correct. You worded that a lot better than me. I'm normally really good at articulating points, just not in social situations.

You can ask the people from MyWii or people like Ciazza who know me from the Debate Hall. I'm sure they'd say I'm not a ****head or anything like that. Except Scoot. I don't think he likes me very much.

I definitely wasn't trying to offend anyone, and I apologise if I did.

Thanks E and Lux for backing me up. Bros before hoes. I owe you guys one. Not sure how much I could do for you....but if you ever want to know the difference between a formal logical fallacy and an informal logical fallacy, or want to teach your dog how to jump over a bar, I'm your man.

Yo, just to clarify, I'm not saying what you said was right, just that I can sympathise with why it came out that way. I have that problem too when it comes to in-person stuff, you just need to learn from your mistakes so you dont make them again.

I suck at brawl.

But I apologised, and it isn't really worth making an issue out of it, so we might as well move on.

Again thanks to the guys who backed me up.

ahh ted...

ciaza, making a first impression is easy, heres what you do

go somewhere, watch a little from the background, get a feel for it, talk to a few people and just ease into it.

heres what you dont do.

come in and tell everyone that they fit a negative sterotype, despite the fact that you've never met them, and then when they are understandably upset, tell them that its not your fault that you fit the sterotype, or even better, just tell them they are mis-understanding you and you are actually a really amazing person, just ask X.
and then put your foot in your mouth, and then fit the other one in there too, why the hell not?

heres a really good tip for making a good impression, dont be a nob
so dre, as I can see you are definitely not a people person, my biggest tip would to say about 1% of the things you want to say, and just keep most of it to yourself, at least untill you've been around awhile and got to know people.

or you could just keep being socially inept and make good people not like you.

also scoots a ***.

Thanks Aero.

Luke I didn't stereotype anyone. I said that most smashers I'd seen were X, so I found it surprising that someone would expect a lot of girls. I didn't say the community was X, or that would be a bad thing. That's what negative stereotyping would be.

Dre "goes on smashboards, aka the self proclaimed 'largest smash bros. community', and says most smashers are a negative stereotype, but claims to not have said community was a negative stereotype" .

I didn't say that, or at least that's not what I intended.

If I did mean to say that, why would I be insisting that I didn't? Surely I'd just say something like 'well it's true, that's the reality' or something like that

Leish said she expected more girls at her first tourney. I said I was surprised she expected that because most smashers I'd seen were X, aka not girls.

I was saying that given what I'd seen, there'd be little reason to expect many girls at your first tourney. I didn't everyone was x, and/or that was a bad thing.

In fact, why would I even be interested in a tourney if I had a negative view of the people there?

I don't understand why people have to keep having a go at me. It's pretty clear I've miscommunicated, and people who know me have backed me up and said I've miscommunicated. They wouldn't like me if I was the way people here were making me out to be.

I miscommunicated and I apologised for offending anyone. I don't see why people can't just leave it at that.

Gords- Na I haven't.
